Bicycling Caroline County’s quiet, lightly- traveled countryside, you can imagine you are back in time. With a county population of only 30,000, meeting a car on the road is an infrequent occurrence. You can cycle through picturesque small towns on gently curving roadways. The terrain is generally flat with occasional slight grades. You will feel you are a part of the landscape, swept up in peaceful, natural vistas. Be surprised by hot air balloons suddenly appearing overhead or ultra-light aircraft buzzing by. Caroline’s moderate climate, due to its position between the ocean and the Chesapeake Bay, offers great bicycling year round. Camping at Martinak or Tuckahoe State Parks provides a convenient base from which to explore the county on your bicycle, as well as offers hiking and mountain bike trails for a change of pace. You will probably run out time before you run out of cycling trips in Caroline County. All roads are bicycle-legal and there are no limited access roads. Maryland cycling laws to be aware of include: Bicycles are defined as vehicles, with all rights and responsibilities of those inferior ones with motors. Bicyclists under the age of 16 are required to wear a helmet. Bicyclists should ride on the right side of the road. When in a group, bicyclists should ride single file if motorized vehicles are around. Accommodations Camping Climate & Location STAY OVERNIGHT! Caroline County is a beautiful and historic setting.
