I. GENERAL INFORMATION Country name: Republic of Liberia Size: 11.370 km² Population: 3,476,608 (source: LISGIS) Capital: Monrovia Official Language: English Major Religions: Christianity, Islam, indigenous beliefs Life Expectancy: 45 years (until next census) Currency: Liberian Dollar = 100 Cents Country Code: +231 The Republic of Liberia is situated in Western Africa and has frontiers with Ivory Coast, Guinea, Sierra Leone and the Atlantic Ocean. Years of Civil War left their mark to the country. Iron ore and caoutchouc are the main export goods for Liberia, among diamonds, timber, cocoa, coffee etc. Over 70 percent of the population lives on agriculture.

Poor health contributes significantly to poverty in Liberia, and health systems are in the state of disrepair in the aftermath of the conflict.
There are only 61 Liberian Physicians, and 5,000 Nurses and Midwives (excluding trained traditional Midwives) to cover Public Health needs. There are 573 active, Physician Assistants also helping in the health care delivery system.
There are 525 Health facilities, (i.e. Clinics and Health Centers) and 20 Hospitals available now in Liberia.

The National Bureau of Employment oversees several programs to alleviate the high unemployment. Among them are:
Emergency Employment Creation A total of 60.000 short term jobs were created 2008/09. Due to the economic crisis emergency job creation dropped to 2.500 in 2010. Later numbers are not available. Internship Program Graduates who are accepted for an internship with international NGOs receive 75 US-Dollar. Vacation Job Scheme
1171 students were employed by ministries during their vacations. Placement Service – So far, 264 people are registered and receive support with their job search.

V. REINTEGRATION AND RECONSTRUCTION ASSISTANCE

Cell: +231886590781 A total of 65 returnees graduated from Piggery in August 2013.Some of them have enrolled in the University of Liberia while some are in grade schools around Monrovia from various Scholarship Institutes .The returnees are no longer benefiting from the Tohao Women and Youth Empowerment program training in Tailoring, Beautification, Pastry making and other vocational training courses. An estimated number of 17,000 refugees has been repatriated so far According to Mr. Freeman, only former refugees are benefiting from housing assistance with the aid of UNHCR. LRRRC is also involved in referral of returnees to USA Embassy for assistance with placement.
