− Chile − The current legislation on trafficking in persons in Chile covers all forms of trafficking indicated in the UN Trafficking in Persons Protocol. Investigations and suspects During the period 2016-2020 (as of May), 43 persons were prosecuted, 20 men and 23 women. During the same period, 15 persons were convicted of trafficking in persons, as per article 411 quarter of the Criminal Code. Persons convicted were of citizens of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Russia, Peru.

In the period between 2014 and 2018, the majority of victims were of foreign citizenships including victims from Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe. Three citizens of Chile were trafficked domestically.

In 2016, there were 194 cases of trafficking in persons recorded and in 2017, 82 cases were recorded.

In 2016, 22 persons were charged with the crime of trafficking in persons, 17 males and five females. In the years 2017 and 2018, at total of 32 were charged and 16 were convicted.

The majority of victims in the indicated period were citizens of Colombia. Others were citizens of Venezuela and other countries in South America and Central America.

Between January 2017 and December 2018, 116 identified victims were repatriated from other countries, while 43 were domestically trafficked according to the Ministry of the Interior. Colombian victims of trafficking were repatriated from China, Qatar and other countries in Europe, Central America and East Asia.

In 2018, two persons were convicted of trafficking in persons for the purpose of sexual exploitation, and two for the purpose of forced marriage.

In 2018, the Ministry of Interiors reported 17 cases of trafficking in persons, 14 persons being investigated and 2 convicted of trafficking offences. In the same year, 10 victims were identified. Seven out of these ten victims were adult women trafficked for the purpose of sexual exploitation, and three were children, two girls trafficked for the purpose of sexual exploitation and one boy for illegal adoption. Nine out of these ten victims were nationals of Uruguay, and one was a national of the Dominican Republic. Among them, seven were recruited to be exploited in Uruguay and three in Europe.

Victims Between 2014 and 2018, all victims of trafficking in persons recorded by D.G.L.C.C.O., INTERPOL y Sistema de Gestión de Seguridad Pública were adult women, with a peak of 138 in 2014, and 95, 91,73, and three victims reported in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018, respectively.

Between 2018 and 2019, 573 children were identified as potential victims of trafficking in persons in Uruguay.
