Turkey is a Eurasian country that stretches across the Anatolian peninsula in western Asia and Thrace in the Balkan region of southern Europe.

Turkey is bordered by six countries:Bulgaria to the northwest; Greece to the west; Georgia to the northeast; Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iran to the east; and Iraq and Syria

to the southeast.

The Sea of Marmara, the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles demarcate the boundary between Eastern Thrace and Anatolia.They also seperate Europe and Asia.

THE FOUNDER OF TURKISHREPUBLIC; ATATÜRK

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk is the founder of Turkish Republic.

He is also the first president of Turkish Republic.

He was born in Salonica in 1881.

Atatürk made many reforms in order to bring Turkey to the level of contemporary civilizations.

The capital city of Turkey;Ankara

Ankara has a vibrant cultural and artistic life with many select ballet, theatre, opera and folk dance performances. The city's Philharmonic Orchestra,

which always plays to a packed house, is especially famous.

İSTANBUL

The god and human, nature and art are together in there, they have created such a perfect place that it is valuable to see the embracing of two continents, with one arm reaching out to Asia and the other to Europe.

It is also the only one to have been a capital during two consecutive empires - Christian and Islamic. Once was capital of the Ottoman Empire, İstanbul still remains the commercial, historical and cultural pulse of Turkey,

Topkapı Palace was the center of Ottoman Empire between the 15th and 19th

centuries.

Dolmabahce Palace was built in the 19th century.Atatürk,

founder of the Turkish Republic, died in Dolmabahçe

on November 10,1938.

Considered the most beautiful of all imperial mosques in Istanbul, Suleymaniye Mosque was built

between 1550 and 1557 by Sinan, the renowned architect of

the Ottoman golden age.

The Basilica of St. Sophia, now called the Ayasofya

Museum, is unquestionably one of the finest buildings of

all time.

Rumeli Hisari, or the European Fortress, was built by Mehmet the Conqueror in 1452 prior to his capture of

Istanbul.

The Istanbul land wall stretch seven kilometers from the Sea of

Marmara to the Golden Horn. Restored recently, these walls date from the fifth century and the reign

of Emperor Theodosius II.

HISTORICAL AND TOURISTIC PLACES IN TURKEYEPHESUS

• Ephesus was first established in 6000 B.C and grew up around the Temple of Artemis

• The Magnesian Gate is the only city gate that survives up to the present day.

• THE CHUCH OF VIRGIN MARY (THE CHURCH OF COUNCILS) This church, one of the important edifices of Christianity, is the first church which was dedicated to Virgin Mary. The third meeting of the Ecumenical Council was held in this church in A.D 431.

NEMRUT MOUNTAIN

•Nemrut Mountain is located South of Malatya (75km)  in Turkey. 

• The statues were found in 1881 by Kral Sester, a German  archeologist. 

• In 1987, Nemrut mountain was made a world heritage site by  Unesco and immediatly after the area was declared a national park by the Turkish Ministry of Forest.

It is a palace that was built on a hill in east Beyazit in 1789 by İshak Pasha who was the son of vizier Hasan Pasha.

Having approximately 360 rooms and lounges ,the palace fits the qualities of a traditional Ottoman Palace .

Rumi was a 13th century Persian Poet and Sufi mystic. Rumi, was a philosopher and mystic of Islam. His doctrine advocates unlimited tolerance, positive reasoning, goodness, charity and awareness through love. Looking with the same eye on Muslim, Jew and Christian alike, his peaceful and tolerant teaching has appealed to people of all sects and creeds.

Cappadocia which is unique in the worldand is a miraculous nature wonder is thecommon name of the field in the CentralAnatolian region.

In these cities made in form of roomsconnected to each others some of therooms were connected to each otheronly with the tunnels tight andpermitting passing of just a person.

At the access gates of these tunnels

there were huge stone rollers used forclosing the tunnels for securityreasons.

MARMARA REGION

Marmara is a region in northwestern Turkey. It is Turkey's bridge and connection to Europe. Turkey's largest city, Istanbul is the region's unofficial capital.

This region gets its name from the sea it surrounds: the Sea of Marmara, connected to Aegean Sea via Dardanelles, and to Black Sea via Bosporus.

The lively city of Kocaeli with its fruit orchards and vegetable gardens is now an industrial centre, and nearby Hereke is famous for its carpets.

To the south is Iznik, renowned during Ottoman times for its glazed tiles which adorned the mosques andtombs, and its great Byzantine city walls.

Bursa, the land of silk, was the first capital city of the Ottoman Empire and birthplace of modern Turkish culture. The mosques, like Yesil Came and Ulu Cami, are some of the most important and beautiful inthe country. The country's first ski resort was built on the mountain of Uludag, lying to the south of the city.

MARMARA REGIONTekirdag, with beautiful examples of Ottoman architecture

and broad beaches, is known for its vineyards and wine festivals.

To the north is Gonen with its famous thermal springs, and the commercial port of Bandirma which is the biggest in theMarmara sea after Istanbul.

One the shores of the Marmara Sea are a whole host of beautiful beaches and holiday resorts, including Cinarcik, Armutlu, Gemlik, Mudanya, Erdek, the Marmara and Avsa Islands, Denizkent, Sarkoy and Silivri. To the west is Yalova, a site famous for itsthermal springs.

KOCAELİ

Kocaeli is a province of Turkey. Its capital is İzmit.

The largest town in the province is now Gebze.

The province is located at the easternmost end of the Marmara Sea, especially on the Gulf of İzmit.

Because of the size and natural conditions of the Bay of İzmit, the city is a giant natural harbour.

There are lots of harbour facilities within Kocaeli, including the primary base of the Turkish Navy.

KOCAELİ Kocaeli is the city that takes place on the

highway and railroad connecting Istanbul to Anatolia. Today it is a very industrial center for Turkey.

The Saatçi Ali Efendi Mansion in the city, which is a very interesting example of 18th century Ottoman Civil Architecture, had been restorated and now being used as Ethnography Museum.

"Pişmaniye" which is the local dessert of kocaeli is made by giving the sugar the shape of fibre.

Hereke, is a very important carpet production center. The carpets of Hereke are very famous all around the world for their beauty and high quality.

Kerpe, Kefken and Kovanağzı, at the north of Kocaeli near Black Sea, are places that ecstatic places with their sores and small and comfortable hotels.

GEBZE

Gebze (ancient names: Dakibyza and Libyssa) is an industrial city in Kocaeli Province, Turkey. Situated 30 miles east of Istanbul on the northern shore of

the Sea of Marmara , it is the largest district of Kocaeli; Gebze has experienced rapid growth in recent years- 282,444 in 2009. Gebze accounts

for 15% of Turkish industrial production.

OSMAN HAMDI BEY MUSEUM It had been constructed as a complex

consisting of the mansion, painting hall, and boathouse by Turkish Painter and art collector Osman Hamdi Bey (1842-1910) at 1884, at Gebze Eskihisar.

The flower paintings on the doors, which he had drawn between 1901 - 1903, of the mansion have the value of painting.

The painter had drawn his most famous paintings here, during the 26 years he lived here. It is being used as a museum since from the date of 19.08.1987, in which the paintings, photographs, and reproductions of Osman Hamdi Bey.
