    The Independence Fund, a South carolina registered 50 1(c}3 organization, is sponsoring a

    second It Dan Weekend (LDW2) in Beaufort, SC from 14-18 Sentembe r, 2011 . We are

    proud to announce that this year again, Gary Sinise and the Lt Dan Band will headline the

    event. Your sponsorship will help ensure the success of this very noble comm unity effort .

    The City ct Beaufort , which will ce celebrating it's 30Cth Anniversary during the time of theLt. Dan Weekend. is the proud home to the Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Beaufort . the

    Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island, and the Beaufort Naval Hospital.

    Beaufort County is esc home to more than 20,CXXJ retirees of all branches of the armed

    services.

    Acco rding to tile Beaufort Chamber of Commerce, the military generates over $1.2 Billion

    anneafy to the Beau'o rt economy - with a significant amount being spent at local

    businesses. Like last year, many of the rno-e than one thousand North of the Broad hotel

    rooms will be filled by attendees of LDW2 .

    LDW2 w ill provide an opportunity for more than one hundred severely wo unded veterans of

    the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and their tireless caregivers to:

    • bond in fellowship wit h their wounded comrades- wonderful therapy• part icipate in athletic events (golf, b ike ride and road race-as they are physically abte-

    with spec ial equipment, o ften provided with Independence Fund)

    • eniov recreational activities provided in the Lowccontrv of South carolina• be entertained by military-advocate Lt Dan and his great band

    Our severely wou nded warriors deserve the cont inuing support of our grateful Nat ion. We

    The Objective of LDW2 is to become the nations premiere "Support the Troops" event highl ighting the natural beauty o f

    the Sout h carolina Lowcountry wh ile b ring ing to bear the strengths and talent of the loca l population in a manner wh ich

    best honors lhe service and sacrifice of our severely injured veterans.

    Goa lsThe goals 01LDW2 are to bring mo re than on e hundred severely injured veterans and ca regivers to Beaufort County for a

    fou r day event in which a m inimu m of $200,CXXJ.OO is netted to provide direc t sUPPJrt for the unmet needs in the

    d isabled veteran community.

    So lutionFor LDW2 to be success ful the support o f the Military. Co rporate and Gove rnmental agenc ies will be required. The core

    support for lDW2 willcom e from the extraordinary volunteer support inherent in the com mun ity.

    The NeedMore than 5O,CX)() veterans have been seriously injured in the War on Terror. When factoring in training and non-host ile

    fire mishaps that number is signi ficantly multipl ied. Non-profits , like the Independence Fund, and events like LDW2 are

    important steps in br ing ing bo th th e physica l and emotional healing that is lacking in many of these veterans jves.

    What makes the Independence Fund unique?In its fourth year since oceonon. the Independence fund has raised and distr ibuted more than $ l ,CX)().(XXl in gran ts andservices to severely injured veterans while fully maintaining its core values of :

    • Providing the tools, meraoes and guidance that severely injured vete rans are o therw ise not receiving .

    Having no paid staff members.

    • Maintaining a Board of Directors co mprised enu-ev of combat veterans.Cham pioning the value o f physicnl nctivity no mailer wttat the level of disab ility.

    • Promot ing the use o f art as a too l o f hea ling

    • Breaking down the barriers between the d isabled and ab le bodied communities throuqh veteran speakingengagemen ts and community based events like LDW2

    by nominating qualified veterans for acceptance into

    world-class rehabilitat ive ho spitals li ke the Shepherd

    Center in Atl anta. The Independence Fund is an all

    volunteer, 501(c)3 no t-far-profit corpo rati on that is

    entirely led and managed by combat vete rans. Since

    its inc eptio n in 2007, the Independence Fund has

    di str ibuted more tha n 51.25 mi llion in grants to

    qualified veterans .

    All proceeds raised by the Lt . Dan Weekend will be

    applied toward s the Independence Fu nd's core

    mission of prov iding the tools , therapies and

    guidance fo r those vete rans severely injured in th e

    Global War on Terror that they otherwise are not

    receiving.

    To date, 6000 service members have been killed on thebattlefie lds of Iraq and Afghanistan. Close to 50,000

    have been wounded.

    This will be the third time that Mr. Sinise has performedfor the Independence Fund. "II's impossible not to bedeeply moved by something like that," said one attendeeof last years event.

    In addition to the concert, the weekend's festivities willinclude the 2nd Annual Lt. Dan Golf Classic, a family SKrun in historic downtown Beaufort. a bicycle ride with thewounded veterans on the Marine Corps Air Station, aCombat Photography Art exhibit at City Hall, and aseries of veterans related workshops to be heldthroughout the weekend. Gary will also serve as GrandMarshal of Beaufort's 300th Birthday Parade followingthe September 17th, SK run.

    Well known entertainer and supporter of the troops. GarySinise. will honor the service and sacrifice of ourseverely injured military heroes and their careg ivers atthe 2nd Annual, t.t, Dan Weekend taking place from Sept14th - Sept 16th, 2011 in Beaufort, SC, Gary will lead his"Lt. Dan Band" in an Benefit Concert for the troops atBeaufort's historic Waterfront Park on Friday, Sept 16th,at 830pm.

    communities. The Independence Aides have the secondary benefit

    of breaking down barriers between our military and civilian
