The Courier Medical Center Shelterbelt Project Trees serve many purpos- es: shade, beauty, food (nuts and fruit), and in our area, protection against the wind. While most of the City of Fairfield is protected from wind, out on the western edge of town the wind can be big problem, especially at the Camas Medical Ser- vices building. During the winter, drifting snow cov- ers walkways, the drive- way, and the helipad, and it is a constant battle to keep those areas clear and safe for people needing to use the facilities. Last year, Wes Fields called the Camas Conserva- tion District (CCD) express- ing concern about this prob- lem and offered donate trees for a shelterbelt project. The CCD coordinated meetings with Wes, Medical Services personnel, city and county officials, and NRCS representative Bob Josaitis. Mr. Josaitis has drafted a cost effective design for the area west of the clinic and the City of Fairfield has completed the installation of irrigation water main lines to the site. Donation of pipe for lateral distribu- tion lines is pending, and the CCD has dedicated $800 to the project. This community effort is off to a great start, but help is needed to complete the project. There are two ways you can participate: funding for distribution line equipment, landscape fabric, mulch, etc. is still needed; manual labor (irrigation equipment instal- lation, landscape fiber and mulch placement, tree plant- ing, etc.) is also needed. During the Camas County Fair being held this week- end, be sure to stop by the CCD booth and see what you can do to help your commu- nity. You can also contact the CCD at: 208-764-3223 or P.O. Box 156, Fairfield, ID. All monetary donations are tax deductible. (Be sure to check out the city’s other tree project at the Fairfield City Park.) Boot Scootin’ Fun Camas County Fair The 4-H Horse Show and the 4-H Demonstration con- test took place last week to start this year’s Camas County Fair. Today (10 to 4) and to- morrow (8 to 10 a.m.) the Legion Hall will be open for 4-H and Commercial set up. Open class items (art, pho- tograpy, crafts, food, etc.) may also be entered at this time. Open class do not have to be judged. Thursday morning (Au- gust 6th) the Rabbit Show will take place on the front lawn of the school starting at 9 a.m. Later in the day, there will be a Bike Rodeo (3:30) and a Bike Parade, also at the school. Thursday will end with a Free Carnival at the City Park along with the Fair Board’s Bingo game at 6. Friday morning is the Dog Show at 9 a.m. and on Fri- day evening at 6 p.m. come enjoy the Community Pot- luck at the City Park. The 4-H Livestock Show will start at 8 a.m. on Satur- day with the Market Animal Sale at 2 p.m. Bruce & Sue Robbins, this year’s Grand Marshals, will lead the Fair Parade down Soldier Road at 1 pm. HAGERMAN – The Idaho Department of Fish and Game Commission has issued a salvage order on Hagerman Wildlife Manage- ment Area’s, Anderson Pond #3, Anderson Pond #4, and Riley Pond. (attached map) Anglers can keep all the fish they wish in these three ponds, with the exception of White Sturgeon. Fish may be taken by any method ex- cept firearms, explosives, chemicals, or electric current effective July 31 through September 30, 2015. A valid fishing license is required to salvage fish. White Sturgeon may not be harvested during the sal- vage effort. There is no legal way to be in possession of a White Sturgeon in Idaho un- less legally purchased from a commercial fish production continued on page 5.....
