Upon entering their online course, students see their MyFoundationsLab Course Home (depicted below). In this area students can easily access their “Next Activity” they should work on.

PATH BUILDERTo begin their coursework in MyFoundationsLab, students answer a series of content questions in their Path Builder; a content questionnaire that constructs a tailored lesson plan based on current knowledge in the subject matter. It will let the students know which modules and topics need to be worked on and others they have already mastered in the Path Builder.

Once students complete their Path Builder, student can now begin coursework in MyFoundationsLab. Their main starting point is the Learning Path. This will list activities for which they have not mastered in the Path builder. Student follows the modules indicated in the learning path. Module-by-module they begin to “master” each activity: overview, recall, practice, apply. These are a combination of lectures and exercises. Both are subject to tracking whether if student has attended each.

Exercises such as recall, practice, and apply are graded, tracked, offering three attempts to students. Student can check answers in these practice exercises.

In a variety of exercises, student is coached on how to reach the correct answer. This is not the case in Post-tests, the final assessment for each topic that evaluates mastery.

Each topic concludes with a post-test assessing whether student has achieved mastery after attending all activities. Student has unlimited attempts to take post-tests.

The MFL Gradebook marks each graded item with a score or an “M”.”M” indicates an item that students had already mastered as evaluated by their Path Builder questionnaires.

The Gradebook also tracks and visually indicates what students had already mastered in the Path Builder, under “Mastered on Assessment”, how many modules and topics they were assigned to work on towards mastery, including how many have been complete and the remaining that still need to be studied.

In the screenshot below, there are 10 topics marked as “Needs study” on the left list. The activities area to the right contains a star marking RW1.15 Animation as mastered. This indicates the student has attended to this item. !The order of activities simulate instructional scaffolding gradually guiding students from ground zero to the desired learning goals.
