Mines Rescue has almost 90 years experience assisting the mining industry to manage risk and operate safely. To ensure the highest quality standards, Mines Rescue plays a pivotal role in training through its Registered Training Organisation, offering training programs that have been developed by mining and emergency response professionals with national qualifications. The Conduct Shotfiring course offered by Mines Rescue is specifically designed for shot firing operations in underground coal mines. The course is designed for individuals who will have access to explosives and responsibility for the charging and firing of shots. On completion of this course participants will have the skills and knowledge to: z Plan and prepare for shotfiring operations z Supervise the storage and transport of explosives and accessories z Prepare for charging and charge holes z Conduct the blast z Complete post-blast activities z Carry out equipment maintenance This course fulfils the theory requirement to apply for a Blasting Explosives User License (BEUL) in NSW. Learning outcomesUpon successful completion of the Conduct Shotfiring course, participants will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the following unit:

zz RIIBLA302D Conduct shotfiring operations in underground coal mines

This unit contributes to the completion of the Certificate IV in Underground Coal Operations (RII40415).

Entry requirementsNo formal previous learning is required for this course however Mines Rescue encourages participants to gain knowledge and experience of the policies and procedures of their workplace before starting the course. It is also an expectation that participants have experience working in a coal mine environment.

It is acknowledged that this is a course based on a Certificate IV level qualification that requires appropriate levels of language, literacy and numeracy skills to manage course work, in-course activities and assessment tasks.
