BIOLOGY 11-12

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Students will be able to…• become socially conscious and community contributors.• understand and navigate the Biology content on

California Standards tests.• understand the process of science. • develop their scientific literacy skills.• develop 21st century learner skills.• follow and complete lab procedures.

TECHNOLOGY I.• Students can have access to any assignments or documents from class by accessing either

the school’s website (collegeready11.org) or by accessing my website (https://sites.google.com/site/biologyballers/home) .

TECHNOLOGY II. (New!!!)• CRAHS#11’s website will be where students submit their coursework. I have listed some links

below to support students’ independent learning of the content.

• Misuse of technology will result in student losing the privilege of using academic technology until they have completed the required book work and 30 min of community service.

• Students who come to school late will be allowed to checkout a laptop, and will be required to complete 30 min of community service.

SUPPLIES (New!!!)• If students are unable supply these materials, we will work out a plan together to get these

materials.

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS• Students will respect themselves, instructors, peers, and the classroom.• Students will maintain a positive attitude during class.• Students will be outstanding citizens inside and outside of the classroom.• Students are to enjoy gum, food, and drink in the appropriate designated areas

of the school.• Students are to use non-academic electronic devices outside of the school day.• Students will follow the conduct codes for technology.

• Students will set and reach personal goals through being accountable for their actions and choices.

Agenda and answer reflection questions

COURSEWORK(New!!!)-• With the exception of the first week of school students will

be given independent practice M-F, and also projects which may require additional time. They will also be expected to keep track of their assignments in their agenda at the end of each class period. Students will at the end of each week be required to submit requested assignments on the school website (collegeready11.org). Late work must be submitted via email with the following information in the subject First Initial Last Name Late Work Assignment Titles Original Due Dates.

PASSES Students will be given two any purpose passes per quarter. These passes can be used anytime

after the first 30 min. of class or before the last 30 min. Passes that are not used will be counted points as extra credit at the end of the quarter each.

ATTENDANCE AND TARDIES Coming to class on a regular basis will increase your chances of doing well in class greatly.

Consistent tardies and absences will be reflected in students’ life skills grade.

CELL PHONES AND ELECTRONICS

Students will not be allowed to use cell phones or electronic devices during class. If these devices are used they will be taken away when they are seen. They will be held for the duration determined by school administration. Students and guardians who do not wish to agree to this policy should make sure that electronic devices are not brought into the class.

COPYING AND CHEATING Academic integrity is an important part of any course. Students involved in the copying of class

work, tests, or quizzes will receive a non-proficient score and suffer the appropriate school policy consequences. Parents and guardians will also be notified of any violations.

TAGGING/DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY

Students who are caught tagging/damaging classroom property will receive 10 hrs of tutoring/classroom service in addition the appropriate school site consequences. These students will also be written up and parents will be notified. Students caught a second time tagging will receive 20 hrs of tutoring/classroom service in addition to school site consequences. Students will have two weeks to complete this time commitment. A third violation of this policy will result in more serious consequences, in accordance with school discipline policy.

REWARDSStudents who meet and/or exceed expectations will be eligible for and possibly receive:

• Positive letter/ phone call home

• Other opportunities (field trips)

• Free-bees

CONSEQUENCES These are the consequences for not meeting classroom expectations. Major

infractions will result in the appropriate school policy consequences.• Step 1. Verbal warning (reminder of class expectations), One-• on-one discussion• Step 2. Seat change, One-on-one discussion• Step 3. Phone call to parent and reflection sheet• Step 4. Detention with teacher• Step 5. Referral to administrator• Step 6. and parents/guardians.

LEADERSHIP ROLES:

Classroom Ambassador-

• Responsibilities: Greeting visitors, overseeing other classroom leadership roles, second line of help for their peers during classroom activities.

• Duration: One 10 week quarter.

• Other: These students are expected to exceed academic and behavioral expectations, or they will forfeit their position.

LEADERSHIP ROLES:

Tutors-

• Responsibilities: After school peer tutoring.

• Duration: One 10 week quarter (weekly time commitment to be determined as needed by instructor).

• Other: These students are expected to maintain at least a B average during their time commitment or they will forfeit their position.

LEADERSHIP ROLES:Deputy of Technology-

• Responsibilities: Uploading files to the classroom website, distributing group emails, and other technology support.

• Duration: One semester

• Other: These students must be able to gain access to the internet outside of school.

LEADERSHIP ROLES:Classroom Concierge-

• Responsibilities: Managing classroom supplies and general order of the classroom.

• Duration: 10 week quarter

• Other: These students will have a checklist outlining their responsibilities for each day.

STUDENT HELP OPPORTUNITIES

Students will be able to get help by signing up for tutoring opportunities before or after school. I will be available before school at 7:30 a.m. and after school as late as 4:30 p.m. Students will be expected to schedule their appointments for help with course work.
