Student Assignments Canvas/ In class

The focus of this class is to allow the student to discover how to design with color, create depth, and add texture and excitement to a hair design. Students will experience the results of various products on swatches and mannequins to understand the formulation and chemistry behind color. The students will use this knowledge to create and enhance hair designs on mannequins, models and clients, with the use of hair coloring techniques. Special attention is given to facial procedures and make-up applications as well using the principles learned in color theory.

End-of-Course Outcomes: Identify terminology, demonstrate the proper application, and exhibit workplace competencies related to hair color, facial, and makeup.

Instructor's Requirements

Tripod and supplies for course

Program/Discipline Requirements: If applicable

This class is a skill intensive, fast- paced course and it requires that students attend

class each day in order to complete their assigned projects.

HCC Grading Scale: A = 100- 90 4 points per semester hour

B = 89 - 80: 3 points per semester hour

C = 79 - 70: 2 points per semester hour

D = 69 - 60: 1 point per semester hour

F = 59 and below REPEAT CLASS 0 points per semester hour

FX (Failure due to non-attendance) 0 points per semester hour

IP (In Progress) 0 points per semester hour

W (Withdrawn) 0 points per semester hour

I (Incomplete) 0 points per semester hour

AUD (Audit) 0 points per semester hour

IP (In Progress) is given only in certain developmental courses. The student must re-enroll to receive credit. COM (Completed) is given in non-credit and continuing education courses.

FINAL GRADE OF FX: Students who stop attending class and do not withdraw themselves prior to the withdrawal deadline may either be dropped by their professor for excessive absences or be assigned the final grade of "FX" at the end of the semester. Students who stop attending classes will receive a grade of "FX", compared to an earned grade of "F" which is due to poor performance. Logging into a DE course without active participation is seen as non-attending. Please note that HCC will not disperse financial aid funding for students who have never attended class.

Students who receive financial aid but fail to attend class will be reported to the Department of Education and may have to pay back their aid. A grade of "FX" is treated exactly the same as a grade of "F" in terms of GPA, probation, suspension, and satisfactory academic progress.

Page 9: Course Syllabus CSME 2501-Hair Color

To compute grade point average (GPA), divide the total grade points by the total number of semester hours attempted. The grades "IP," "COM" and "I" do not affect GPA.

Health Sciences Programs Grading Scales may differ from the approved HCC Grading Scale. For Health Sciences Programs Grading Scales, see the "Program Discipline Requirements" section of the Program's syllabi.

EGLS3 -- Evaluation for Greater Learning Student Survey System

At Houston Community College, professors believe that thoughtful student feedback is necessary to improve teaching and learning. During a designated time near the end of the term, you will be asked to answer a short online survey of research-based questions related to instruction. The anonymous results of the survey will be made available to your professors and department chairs for continual improvement of instruction. Look for the survey as part of the Houston Community College Student System online near the end of the term.

EARLY ALERT

HCC has instituted an Early Alert process by which your professor may “alert” you and counselors

that you might fail a class because of excessive absences and/or poor academic performance. A

counselor will then reach out to you to discuss your progress and offer any relevant resources.

This initiative is designed to provide students with support services and resources to assist them

in successfully completing their course.

*MINORS IN THE WORKPLACE POLICY & PROCEDURES

At its November 2011 meeting, the Board of Trustees approved a new policy that addresses minors (who are not HCC students) in the workplace. As a public educational institution, HCC has an obligation to provide a safe and enjoyable learning and working environment for its students, faculty and staff. Minors or relatives of enrolled students are not permitted at any HCC facility unless they are directly supervised at all times by the parent or responsible adult enrolled in HCC classes. Minors or relatives of enrolled students are not permitted in classrooms without the written approval of the instructor. Minors and relatives of employees are not permitted in HCC offices and work areas during the employee’s scheduled

work hours. More detailed information is on the HCC website.

“At HCC the safety of our students, staff, and faculty is our first priority. As of August 1, 2017,

Houston Community College is subject to the Campus Carry Law (SB11 2015). For more

information, visit the HCC Campus Carry web page

at http://www.hccs.edu/district/departments/police/campus-carry/.”

Note* Criminal Background

Every individual who applies for a license with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation

(“the Department”) is subject to a criminal background check to determine his or her suitability for

the license. In 2009, the Texas Legislature enacted new provisions to allow a person to find out

before applying whether he or she would likely be denied a license due to his or her criminal

history. This was due to the time and expense involved in applying for a license, which in some

cases includes completing required education and taking an examination. See Section 51.4012

and Chapter 53, Subchapter D, of the Occupations Code, which allow a person to request a

criminal history evaluation letter from the Department, prior to actually applying for a license
