I am please to introduce our updated Tower Hamlets guide tocourses and learning opportunities for January to July 2009.We have taken a new approach to publishing informationabout our programme this year and hope that being able tosee what is available for the rest of the year, to July, helps youto make a more informed choice.

There is a wide range of courses on offer, from languages tocookery, all kinds of dance and exercise courses as well as IT andbusiness skills. Much more besides. CrèchesIf you are studying at Idea Store Whitechapel and the Shadwell Centre, we maybe able to offer you a crèche place. Crèches are for children between sixmonths and five years. Places are limited and there is a charge. To apply,please ask at reception at the Shadwell Centre or the help desk at the IdeaStore Whitechapel.

Pay by instalments

If your course costs over £200, you can pay in 2equal instalments. You need to pay one instalmentat the start of the course, and the other withintwo months. You can pay by direct debit or postdated cheque.

Sidakan Phetrung lives inBlackwall and has joinedfive Idea Store Learningcourses since 2005.Sidakan is 28 years oldand works as a holistictherapist. She started outwith an ITEC Diploma inanatomy and physiology.

Sidakan said:

� It was difficult tostart learning as I was abit self conscious at first,but the teachers are reallygood and make you feelcomfortable straight away.

� I’ll definitely continuelearning. I’d quite like to do the reflexology or reikicourses and the yoga class has inspired me to becomea yoga instructor.�

Some daytime courses will not run at the Bethnal GreenCentre for two years as from September 2008. In mostcases, we have identified other venues to run the coursesand these are listed in the guide. Under the Data Protection Act 1998, the information you provide will be passed to theLearning and Skills Council (the LSC). The LSC is responsible for funding, planning andencouraging education and training for young people and adults in England, and isregistered under the Data Protection Act 1998. The information you provide will be sharedwith other organisations for the purpose of administration, careers and other guidance,and statistical and research purposes. Other organisations with which we will shareinformation include, the Department for Education and Skills, Connexions, HigherEducation Statistics Agency, Higher Education Funding Council for England, educationalinstitutions and organisations performing research and statistical work on behalf of theLSC or its partners. The LSC also administers the learner registration service (LRS) which willuse your information to create and maintain a unique learner number (ULN). The LSC isalso a co-financing organisation and uses European Social Funds from the EuropeanUnion to directly or indirectly part-finance learning activities, helping developemployment by promoting employability, business spirit and equal opportunities, andinvesting in human resources. At no time will your personal information bepassed to organisations for marketing or sales purposes.From time to time, students are approached to take part in surveys by mail and phone,which are aimed at enabling the LSC and its partners to monitor performance, improvequality and plan future provision. Our data protection registration states that the policeare able to access learner’s records on request. Idea Stores will never pass your detailsonto private companies. However, we may from time to time send you information aboutreduced-rate promotions, events, courses, or improvements to services such asenrolment. You will be able to opt out of receiving such information. The LSC values yourviews on the education or training which you receive, and will use these to help bringabout improvements for learners in England. The LSC or its partners may wish to contactyou from time to time about courses, or learning opportunities relevant to you.

Refunds are only available if we cancel a course or change it in a way thatmakes it impossible for you to continue.

We may also be able to give a refund if you are ill and provide a medicalcertificate. This is at the discretion of the relevant Curriculum Manager ofthe Idea Store Lifelong Learning Service.
