Adventures in Archaeology: The

real Indiana Jones I.

Who was Indiana Jones based on?

“Real Heroic Age” archaeologists, such

as Belzoni, Howard Carter, Heinrich

Schliemann, have stories to tell of

adventure, courage, danger and

daring-do. They discovered ancient

civilisations, tombs and treasures:

Egypt, Sumer, Assyria, Babylon and

Mycenaean Greece. Indiana Jones was

a quiet and cautious man in

comparison. Each class will have

Amendments

Whilst we take great care to ensure that the brochure is correct when

published, changes may have to be made throughout the year due to

events beyond our control. All such changes will be incorporated into the

website edition so please visit

Welcome to Union Chapel

Union Chapel is an inclusive church community with an open and questioning approach

to Christian faith, and with no expectation of following a particular set of beliefs. People

from diverse backgrounds find a home here, working together towards justice and peace.

A particular welcome is extended to refugees and asylum seekers and to all people

whatever their age, race, culture, gender, sexuality, economic status or physical or mental

capacity.

Sunday morning

Worship at 10.00am has an informal structure, drawing on a wide range of resources

including songs, prayers, silence, readings and music. We are experimenting regularly

with more meditative services. There are refreshments and chat at 10.50am and then

from 11.15am until noon, a ‘second session’ addressing a large range of topics, visiting

speakers, topical discussion, music and art.

Feel free to come and join in as much as you like or are able, or sit quietly and get the

feel of the place. No one will pounce on you, but we very much hope that you will feel

welcome.

Children

Children of all ages are welcome in the

service and are expected to act like

children! They generally leave part way

through to follow their own Junior Church

classes, but occasionally remain and join in

the whole service. Having joined in with

everyone else for refreshments (especially

biscuits!) there is a supervised activity

during the Second Session.

Monthly Pattern

On the first Sunday of every month we

celebrate Communion together in the

service. Anyone who is aware of the

significance of this event is welcome to

participate with us.

On the second Sunday of every month we

have a simple Bread and Soup lunch after

the Second Session. We warmly invite

anyone to join with us as we share a meal

with friends.

Other Regular Activities

At 7.30pm every week take the

opportunity to relax in the company of

friends and enjoy a variety of activities. It’s

all very casual and open to anybody.

The general pattern in any month includes

Film Nights, Topical Discussions, Food and

Craft, Party Nights and Seasonal Events.

Programmes are around the chapel and

on the website, or contact Andy on 0161

862 0222 for more details.

Cake Lounge

Cale lounge meets 3rd Sunday in the

Month, 6mp to 8pm. You are welcome to

come and drink tea, eat cake and chat.

Cake Lounge is still evolving: there is no

fixed agenda, but so far it has involved

playing games, good conversations and

making connections.

Further information about the church and our current programme can be found on the website: www.unionchapelbaptist.org.uk

For lettings of rooms please ring 0161 225 4226; any messages you leave will be answered a.s.a.p.
