INFORMATION ABOUT THE RECOVERY COLLEGE The Recovery College is part of the Bedfordshire and Luton Mental Health Academy which is a formal partnership with East London Foundation NHS Trust (ELFT) and the University of Bedfordshire.

The educational, creative workshops and courses offered by the Recovery College, focus on recovery and wellbeing. Our courses and workshops are delivered by professionals in partnership with people with lived experiences. The tools we share in workshops and courses aim to support people to become an expert in their own recovery experience by exploring hope, control, choice and opportunity. Recovery may be defined as a personal journey, aiming to return to a healthy state of mind, and strength, and achieve a meaningful and satisfying life. By learning together we can make progress in challenging the stigma surrounding mental illness and over time we hope to contribute to changing society to be more tolerant, inclusive, accepting and compassionate.

OPPORTUNITY - to do things you want to do and to try new things CHOICE - control of your future HOPE - believing a meaningful life is possible We are delighted to share the Spring/Summer term timetable of courses and workshops for the Recovery College in Bedfordshire and Luton.

RECOVERY PRINCIPLES We believe by bringing together the Recovery College principles of recovery together with the values of East London Foundation Trust and the University of Bedfordshire, we encapsulate a meaningful and solid value base that underpins everything we do in the development of the our Recovery College. Co-production = working together

Co-production is at the heart of what we do at the Recovery College. People with personal

and professional experience of mental health problems work together, equally, to design,

deliver and evaluate the courses and workshops.

People Participation: Become part of the conversation

People Participation – for those that are not familiar with this term – means working

together with the people who use our services and their carers. This trust has a People

Participation team devoted to supporting service users and carers to become involved in all

aspects of our work, in whichever way suits the.

The experience of participation is different for each person. It can be as broad as

influencing the strategic direction or the Trust by representing the local service users and

carers at Trust wide meetings, or be as simple as sharing ideas or opinions at local

meetings to help develop and improve services for both service users and carers.

There is an ever growing list of involvement opportunities, these include: Interview panels,

Staff training, Service User Led Audits, Focus Groups, Quality Improvement (QI) project

teams, Working Together Groups (WTG) and collaborative working with the University of

Bedfordshire for example. For some of these opportunities short training is required.

Please see the timetable for People Participation workshops.

We promote a positive student experience based on the principles of recovery:

We recognise that recovery is a unique and personal journey

We work in hopeful, positive and optimistic ways to support people to

achieve their own hopes, goals and aspirations

Lived experience is valued and inclusivity is promoted

Co-production is crucial to all aspects of the Recovery College

We care We respect We are inclusive
