1. Was it difficult to avoid social media?

I have to admit that avoiding social media for 48 hours was easier than I expected it to be. I still found it to be somewhat difficult though. I believe that’s mostly because it’s become such a habit. I didn’t think I would make it through 48 hours without cheating when I first started the diet but after a few hours of fighting off the urge to go on and check my Facebook it became easier.

2. Did you find yourself naturally running to the computer or cell phone to update your "status" only to realize you were on a "diet"?

I rarely update a status on social media because I don’t like to share personal information with others. I do go onto Facebook to see what everyone else is up to. I moved around a lot throughout my life. Since a lot of my friends and family live in a different country it can be difficult to keep in touch without getting a huge phone bill every month. Social media has made it a lot easier for me to keep in contact with them in a cost efficient way.

3. Did you find that your friends and family didn't contact you at all during your diet?

I found that my immediate family still kept in contact with me through phone calls and/or text messages. The family and friends that live far away did not contact me during my diet mostly because we always connect through social media to try to save money.

4. Were you successful for the full 48 hours fast or, did you cheat... even if it is just a little?

I was successful for the full 48 hours of my social media diet. I do not use social media constantly so it wasn’t terribly difficult. If the assignment was to go without using a cell phone for 48 hours I wouldn’t have made it. I felt like I had so much more free time during those two days. Though, at the end of the 48 hours I was somewhat anxious to get back onto Facebook and see if any family or friends tried to contact me.

I would like to do the social media diet more often now that I’ve tried it. I enjoyed having that extra time to myself. I was able to get some extra chores done around the house and I finished a book I was reading. Our new way of communicating has caused us to become very disconnected with each other. A lot of the times we contact each other through social media or not at all. I can’t say that’s good for any relationship.
