CoveCare Center Services

MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING AND TREATMENT Licensed therapists provide individual, group, and family therapy, as well as play therapy for children. As a supplement to counseling, psychiatrists prescribe and manage medications when needed, and trained peer specialists provide guidance and support based on their lived experiences.

COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICES This suite of services provides a range of assistance for adults, children, and families. Adults with medical, mental health, and/or substance use issues receive help navigating multiple service systems and accessing resources. Seniors benefit from home-based counseling and referrals. Children with mental health, substance use, medical, and other needs, as well as their parents/caregivers, receive assistance that includes navigating service delivery systems, peer support, and advocacy. Families become strengthened through parental skills trainings, family support groups, supervised visitation, and counseling.

ALCOHOL AND SUBSTANCE USE TREATMENT & PREVENTION Credentialed counselors and social workers provide individual, family, and group counseling. Psychiatrists provide evaluations and prescribe medications, including treatment for opioid use. CoveCare Center offers prevention education in Putnam County schools, raises awareness about substance use issues, and informs the public about local resources.

PROSper – PERSONALIZED RECOVERY-ORIENTED SERVICES FOR PEOPLE ENGAGED IN REHABILITATION PROSper helps people with serious mental health issues to recover, heal, and gain their independence. Services include goal-oriented counseling, classes, individual counseling, medication management, vocational counseling, and specialized services for people with both mental health and substance use issues.

Welcome to the 2018 Imagine Dinner Dance. As chair of the Benefit Committee, thank you so much for joining us as we celebrate this very special night for CoveCare Center, our partners in the community, and all who we help with counseling that empowers change.

My commitment to CoveCare is very personal. My husband Sid Gibson, for whom the Imagine Award was conceived, struggled his whole life with depression, anxiety, and alcoholism. I know first hand the difficulties these challenges can have on the individual and the people who love them. But I also know that with superior counseling, like that provided by CoveCare, and timely intervention, recovery is not just a hope but a reality.

Tonight is especially meaningful for me as we honor my dear friend Diane E. Russo with this year’s Imagine Award. Because it’s not just her service that we honor but her compassionate heart. A heart that has enriched the lives of so many over the years coupled with her drive, her creativity and vision. This rare combination has transformed CoveCare over the years into the preeminent agency it is today. I cannot wait to see the next journey Diane undertakes to enrich our community for the future.

Dear Friends,

I am so happy that you are joining us this evening for our 2018 Dinner Dance Benefit. My heartfelt thanks go to CoveCare Center’s Board of Directors and Benefit Committee for selecting me as this year’s Annual Sid Gibson Imagine Award recipient. I am very honored to receive this award as it bears the name of my very special friend, Sid.

For 21 years, CoveCare Center has fostered hope, wellness and recovery for so many people in the Lower Hudson Valley. Our passion and belief that everyone can recover and has the right to recover is reflected in the quality of care that we provide to everyone we serve. We believe in integrated care, treating the whole person and supporting them on their journey of recovery. We are dedicated to helping everyone we serve realize their full potential. Our strategic partnerships with community agencies add to the strength of our commitment to our mission, vision, and values.

CoveCare Center provides a safe harbor for those who need us the most. We believe in counseling that empowers change. Adults, adolescents, children and families who are facing mental health and substance use challenges will always receive an openhearted and accepting welcome when they walk through our doors.

Tonight, I ask you to join me in celebrating and supporting our work and our vision. CoveCare imagines a strong, united community where all people are valued, accepted, and empowered to live healthy lives. We know that recovery is possible, and by working together, we can continue to help those in need embrace their strengths, pursue their goals and dreams, and live life to their fullest potential.

CoveCare Center HonorsDiane E. Russo

Diane began her 30 year career in behavioral healthcare in 1988 working for the Exchange Club Child Abuse Prevention Center in Case Management helping homeless families in a large Westchester County shelter. She then went on to become Director of Mount Vernon Open Door Drug Treatment Program. Diane worked with substance users during the crack/cocaine and AIDS epidemic for 10 years. She was an integral part of grass roots movements in Mt. Vernon for the HIV/AIDS Task Force and the Needle Exchange Program. Diane came to Putnam County in 1998 as Associate Executive Director at Putnam Family & Community Services, now CoveCare Center, in Carmel. As AED she was responsible for the agency’s clinical operations, overseeing the provision of outpatient mental health and substance use treatment and prevention services to thousands of individuals in the Putnam community. At the end of 2010, she became the Executive Director and in 2015, Chief Executive Officer, responsible for the overall leadership and management of the organization, corporate development, business operations and strategy.

As CEO, Diane keeps CoveCare Center and Putnam County in the forefront of New York State behavioral healthcare initiatives. In 2016, CoveCare Center partnered with Coordinated Behavioral Health Services Independent Practice Association whose shared goal is to provide exceptional and cost-effective healthcare to the Hudson Valley region. CoveCare Center has also partnered with CareMount Medical, St. Christopher’s Inn, and Brewster Head Start, providing each with mental health clinic services. Diane was instrumental in forming an affiliation with the Mental Health Association in Putnam in 2017.

Diane is presently a member of the Putnam County Alternatives to Incarceration Board, the Putnam County Disaster Preparedness/Bioterrorism Task Force, the Putnam County Long Term Recovery Coalition and the One Army In the War On Addiction Task Force. In the past, Diane has served as a member of the Putnam County Veterans Task Force, Putnam County Communities That Care Coalition, the Hudson Valley-Catskill Coalition of Alcoholism & Substance Abuse Providers and Putnam Habitat For Humanity. She was the recipient of the 2016 Putnam Community Services Network Distinguished Service Award for an Individual. In 2018, MHA in Putnam presented her with the Rabbi Solomon B. Acrish Humanitarian Award in recognition of her exemplary leadership, dedication, compassion and kindness, seeking to improve the lives of those with mental health and substance use issues in the Lower Hudson Valley. Also in 2018, The Prevention Council of Putnam presented Diane with the Bronze Key for her work in substance use treatment and prevention.

Diane holds a Master of Science Degree in Counseling and Human Development and is a NYS Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor. She holds a New York City Teaching License and is a Board Certified Coach.
