This album cover is from The Beatles Revolver album. I really like this cover because it has been hand drawn and incorporates the band members which is a good idea. On a lot of hand drawn album covers, the drawings aren’t of the band/artist however I think that it works well. The drawings have been made to look as though they are quick sketches. My album cover will have a hand drawn image on it however mine will have been outlined and coloured in so it won’t have the same aesthetic as this. The album title has been done in a very bold font which draws attention to in meaning it doesn’t get lost in the busyness of the cover. This means that, after the 4 large images, it is the place where the eye is drawn to so the target audience will read it and remember it. As well as this the record label’s logo has been included above the album name and is quite big. Because it is above this and is also quite bold, the target audience will see this and can see that, although it may not look very professional due to the hand drawn element, it is authentic and is an actual album cover as opposed to a rip off- as some people may think. The images which have all been collaged together make the album look really busy and exciting. Because there is so much going on, it is hard to miss it and so therefore it would attract attention from everyone- not just the intended target audience. I need to ensure that my album cover gets attention from everyone (especially the target audience)as this is what leads people to buy the album and make the product successful. I like this album cover as it is exciting and is sure to grab attention from everyone as it is difficult to take your eyes off of it. It is important that an album cover has an impact as it is what makes people buy an album (as well as the status of the band/artist, however my artist is a new upcoming artist so this doesn’t apply) and determine whether it is a success or not. This album cover challenges conventions of album covers as it isn't stereotypically neat and tidy. The colour scheme/pallet used in this album cover is black and white which, in my opinion, works very well because of the ‘sketch’ look that the band are trying to show. The simple- ness of the colours of the sketch makes it look more believable as a hand drawn product and works well. Also, the photographed images which have been used in the collage are all in black and white which again works well as it is quite simple. I think that if this album cover had been done in full colour it wouldn’t have been as captivating as it is using just black and white.

The simple-ness of the colours of the sketch makes it look more believable as a hand drawn product and works well. Also, the photographed images which have been used in the collage are all in black and white which again works well as it is quite simple. I think that if this album cover had been done in full colour it wouldn’t have been as captivating as it is using just black and white.

Page 2: cover analysis

I like this simple album cover as I think that it is very effective and would have an impact on the audience. This is because of the bold fonts, interesting colours and striking image of the artist which have all be used to cause an impact upon the audience. This cover has been made using a number of different layers on top of each other to make it stand out and have this effect. The bottom layer is the photograph of the location which is outside. This has then had the artists name placed at the top in large bold lettering. An image if the artist has then been placed which slightly overlaps their name, giving the impression that she is in front of the name even though she looks as though she is in the location- this will have been edited to look like this. The final layer is of the album name which has been added at the bottom of the cover in blue which stands out against the artists costume.

The large bold font used for the artists name really stands out to the intended target audience and is very easy to read. Presenting the name so large gives the artist an identity and placing it at the top of the cover means that it is the first thing that the audience reads meaning they know who the artist is. They will either know the artist and could want to buy the album because they like her songs or they will be intrigued (due to the quirky name) and pick it up before deciding is they will buy it. The white font colour over the top of the blue image makes the text stand out more.

This is then contrasted on the album name where the blue (used in the background) is used as the main font colour on a white background meaning the colour scheme is more limited but is also very effective. The font is also a lot smaller (the smallest thing on the page) meaning that it is the last thing the audience sees before deciding on purchasing- they would have probably already made the decision by then.

Although the image isn't very exciting, the styling (clothes, hair, make up) all add to make the image very striking which would grab attention of the potential target audience. The image is simple however it has impact which is important as the album cover must have impact to grab attention.

The colour scheme (pastel) is very girly which matched the styling of the images. I like the fact that they have used a simple colour scheme with a few colours which makes the cover more effective and stand out to the target market who would enjoy looking at these colours. The colour scheme which I use needs to appeal to females they are my intended target audience.

Page 3: cover analysis

I like this album cover because it is quite unusual and incorporates a photograph as well as a hand

painted look. I think this works well and grabs attention as it looks different to other album

artwork which has been used.

I like the water colour painted look of this album cover because it looks really different and so would then stand out to the intended target market. I like the way which the photograph has been incorporated alongside a water colour paint look. I think that this is a really cool, interesting look and is unique to this album. The album, cover I make needs to be unique to the artist and give her an identity. I feel as though this image reflects the band and the genre which, again, is something I need to make sure that I do when creating my album cover. The way which the water colour comes off the image looks as though it is a painting (even through it is clearly a photograph) which adds intrigue and attracts attention.

Watercolour section included coming off the image to give a

hand painted effect

I like the fact that the bands name looks as though it has been painted as I think it makes it seem like the cover (and name) is individual to the band and quite personal- which it is. The placement of the band name at the top means that the audience see this first and it grabs attention. This could mean that, if they have heard of the band, then they would me likely to buy the album. The colour navy chosen also means that it really stands out against the white background. The album name is then shown beneath the bands name in a different colour which is used to attract attention and make the cover more interesting to look at. I really like the watercolour style and I think this kind of look would suit my genre and artist.

I really like the quirky text

placement because it looks individual to

the band.I like the colour scheme that has been used on this album cover. The colours

are very masculine however because the band is male and the songs are of the rock genre so therefore the intended

audience would be stereotypically male, I think that they work well and would

appeal to the target audience. The blue and green colours stand out well against the white space on the background and give impact. My digipack needs to have

an impact on the target audience.

Page 4: cover analysis

The album cover is fairly simple and very different which makes it interesting for the intended target market to look at. The band is quite indie and cool and the unique looking album cover reflects this.

The colours which have been used are quite autumnal and soft to look at. This is good as it means that it isn’t gender specified and therefore the album cover will be attractive to both genders which could mean it is more successful as a whole. Although this is good, my target audience has been specified as females so in order to be successful with this intended target market it needs to include colours which appeal to them (pink etc) as opposed to browns, greens and oranges.

The font which has been used is very eccentric and adds to the fun, quirky, over the top image which has been used in the centre of the cover. The font links in well with the as it all looks really fun- this is something which would be appealing to the intended target audience who would be young and would want to have fun. The bands name- not following typical conventions of the name being displayed at the top- is at the bottom as the band would have wanted the image to be the main focus point- which it is.

The image which has been used on this album cover has been hand drawn which gives a nice, authentic feel to the album. It also seems more personal (as it seems as though the band have put more effort into the cover for the audience) and looks more interesting. The fact that it looks really interesting and unique means that it grabs attention and has an impact on the intended market audience- this is the main purpose of a digipack.

I really like the image which has been used as it looks

quite vintage and old fashioned because of the

soft shades of the colours. I think that these colours really work well together

and make a pleasing aesthetic to the intended

target audience.

Page 5: cover analysis

I like this album cover because it is quite interesting and haunting to look at. The dark colours and red text

make it very striking which is important to get the attention of the intended audience and make it a

successful album.

The black and white colours of the background make the album cover look quite dark and spooky which reflects the genre of music (rock) which they had chosen. The band White Stripes made the exclusive use of the red, white and black colour scheme throughout all professional duties which includes clothes they wore as well as album covers. Therefore the use of black white and red on this album cover reflects the group as well as the genre and makes a statement. It is striking so would grab attention from the intended audience.

The background image looks as though it could have been drawn and painted which makes the image look strong and unique. The cover has been made up of 3 layers, the bottom layer being the background image of the beach at night, the second layer being the silhouette of the rock duo in white and the third later being the bands name and the name of the album in the top/middle section of the page.

The image of the two band members are shown as white silhouettes which I think works really well. I think this looks really simple however very effective and makes the background a main focus- which challenges conventions as normally backgrounds aren't a focal point. The colour white contrasts against the background as is unique as silhouettes are usually dark colours. The light colour is quite ghost like and is quite haunting which adds to the haunting type of image of the background making the images on the cover have an impact on the buyer.

I like that the font used on the cover is simple and easy to read. Although the band name and the album name are placed next to each other, the difference in font colour makes it easy to distinguish. The colour change and contrasts works well and draws the eye to this section of the page. Although it isn't at the top of the page- which challenges conventions of album covers- it is the first thing that the user will look at because it is the only thing on the page done in red which makes it stand out.

Page 6: cover analysis

I like the randomness and busyness of this album cover because I think it looks really exciting and reflects the happy, upbeat

rhythm and sounds of the afrobeat genre of music the album takes on. This would be appealing to the people who are interested in this type of music and would therefore help to make the album

successful amongst this specific target audience.

I like the quirky way of presenting the artists name and I think that, although the layout of it isn't conventional and neat, it looks fun and interesting which are assumptions that could be made about the genre. It is done in a bold font which attempts to grab attention from the very busy, bright album cover. It has also been placed in the top left hand corner which (normally) would be the first place for the user to look if it wasn’t such a busy cover.

The images and funky shapes that have been used have been made very colourful which reflect the fun vibe of the music. These colourful images are very attention grabbing and make the album cover look really fin and interesting to the intended target audience which is something I need to make sure I do. As well as this the album cover looks as though it has been hand drawn which is something I am doing with my album and digipack. I think that this hand drawn aspect looks really good and works well and therefore would have an impact on whoever is looking at the cover.

The colours which have been used are very bright and happy which would make the target audience feel as though the genre and rhythm of the music was happy. The genre of my artist is very happy and upbeat so I need to make sure that the colours and images which I use reflect this well in order to appeal to the intended target audience. The white which has been used as the background is very simple and is good to then add pattern, image and colour onto. If the background was patterned then I feel that this would make the cover look too busy and unappealing to the target audience. The green is the colour used in the Nigerian flag (the country where the singer is from) and so represents the heritage. I think that this would be an interesting idea to incorporate in my digipack or poster. The red is bright and happy and so would add to the colour scheme to make the cover look exciting to the potential target audience.

Page 7: cover analysis

I like this album cover because the image taken is very simple and is unrelated to the genre of music which makes

it more interesting to the target audience. Although it is related to the band, (the image is of their friend) the target audience don’t know that so I think this is very interesting

and brave to do. The unrelated aspect is challenging conventions of album covers as you would expect the cover to have some relevance to the genre or band.

The bands name and logo have been displayed in white in the top left corner of the album cover. This colour is very prominent and grabs attention to the user as it would be the first thing that they look at. The font is also quite strange and swirly which doesn’t really reflect the genre of the arctic monkeys and the font expected would be something harsher and edgier, however I think that it works well with the image as it all looks a bit random.

The image is very simple, however it is quite captivating. I want my album cover to be captivating and grab attention from the intended target audience. I like that it has been converted to greyscale because it keeps the identity of the man in the photograph a secret. The cover is quite mysterious which is something that would be attractive to the intended target audience. The fact that he has a cigarette reflects the recklessness of the genre.

The cover has been made in just 2 layers- the first bottom layer being the photograph and the second layer being the bands name. This simple layout is good however the lack of l information (album name, record label, etc) makes it look a bit unprofessional.

The colour scheme is grey scale and so therefore uses just black and white. I like that the colour scheme has been left simple and the image is unique as it reflects the indie section of the genre. The black and white makes the image look more striking and have more of an impact on the target audience when they look at the album cover.

Page 8: cover analysis

I like the randomness of this album cover as I think it looks really unique and interesting which would have a great impact on the

intended target audience. The random, unrelated image teamed with the brightly coloured flowers and interesting fonts makes the cover look very striking and makes it stand out when amongst others in shops which would grab the attention of the

target audience so they would buy it and the album would ultimately be a success.

The colours which have been used aren't stereotypically masculine which is strange because the intended target audience would have been young males. Although they wouldn’t necessarily appeal to the target audience, the c9olours would stand out and make the cover look striking. The colours are very vibrant and exciting which would be good as it makes the cover stand out amongst others and make it more successful.

The image used on the cover is very plain and simple and has been edited into black and white in order to make the flowers stand out more against the image. Although the image is fairly unrelated to anything, I think it adds mystery to the cover and therefore works well.

I like the hand written font for the name of the album as I think it works well the messy, hand made collage look that the cover presents. It also makes it more personal to the audience from the band.

I like the unique font which has been used for the bands name. it is very striking and doesn’t get lost within the busyness and brightness of the rest of the cover. It has been placed in the top left corner so it is one of the first placed that the target audience looks at.

The flowers are quite feminine (and so are the colours) which would necessarily be attractive to a male market, yet it could attract more females to buy it. Therefore the flowers could make the album and band more successful within a mixed gender market.

The cover has been made up using 4 layers. The first layer (starting at the bottom) is of the image of the rook in black and white. The second layer is the flower boarder which stands out due to the bright colours. The third layer is “THE CRIBS” band name and the final fourth layer is the album name written at the bottom as it is less important than the band name.
