There’s one thing you’ll never need to worry about in Thailand: finding wonderful and fascinating new places to visit. Even if you’re current job description reads “Traveling Thailand,” and you’ve been doing it for years, you’ll eventually come to realize that going everywhere, and seeing everything, in this amazingly diverse Kingdom is simply impossible.

At some point, however, you realize: I’m not ticking places off my list anymore! I am simply traveling from place to place, learning more and more, and enjoying it more each passing day. You are no longer a tourist. After your long journey, you now feel comfortable in Thailand, and appreciate the full character and charm of the Kingdom.

A TRIP OF A LIFETIMELONGSTAY IN THAILAND

• State of MindAs any visitor to Thailand will tell you, what makes the Kingdom so special are the Thai people themselves. You will experience this anew every day, and it will never cease to amaze you, even after years of living, and traveling, in Thailand. The personality and charm of the people are constantly experienced.

And if you have chosen to stay in Thailand a long time, or even live there, this is not lost on them. You have chosen their country above all others, and this is an honor to Thais and their country. Thus you will always feel the warmth, kindness, hospitality, and generosity of the gentle Thai people.

• Cost of LivingAlthough the cost of living varies greatly throughout Thailand, overall it is very reasonable indeed. The larger cities are more expensive to live in, especially Bangkok, but what is available there makes it worthwhile to many. The same is true to a lesser extent in Pattaya, Phuket, and Chiang Mai, which makes these cities very popular retirement destinations.

Retirement Holiday in ThailandThe Kingdom of Thailand is a placid and picturesque destination which is perfect for retirement aged people seeking to find peace of mind in a tranquil and healthy tropical environment. The pleasant climate and friendly disposition of the local people make Thailand particularly attractive to older people. Every year, people from far and wide, from all walks of life, choose to make Thailand their retirement home.

Once you look beyond the big cities, however, the cost of most everything drops significantly, especially for housing. One need not go far outside the major urban areas to take advantage of this price difference, however. Many people choose to live near, but not in, one of Thailand’s larger cities, thereby enjoying the peace of tranquility of natural surroundings, but with access to everything the city has to offer.

• Safety and ComfortThailand has developed incredibly rapidly during the past two decades. You can get essentially everything you want or need here, especially in the major metropolitan areas. The facilities are excellent, many designed according to Western standards, and the infrastructure makes it convenient to get anywhere very quickly. Despite the amazing development, Thailand remains one of the safest countries in the world, with a surprisingly low crime rate.

Thailand is world famous for its medical care, as shown by the arrival of 1.4 million international patients in recent years. These patients normally mention the following as reasons for choosing Thailand.

Thailand’s medical professionals are highly trained and qualified, with more than 500 doctors American Board Certified, and using state-of-the-art medical equipment.

Thailand was the first country to receive JCI accreditation in Asia in 2002, and now has 15 accredited hospitals.

Used to waiting months at home for medical care, most patients simply walk in to most Thai hospitals and are admitted almost immediately.

Add to this the kind of amenities and service you might find at a 5-star hotel and the package is complete; the decision to receive medical care in Thailand is a complete no-brainer.

access for anyone with mobility issues as well as peace and privacy.

If you want an actual ocean view then a condominium is likely to be a more affordable option and will also require much less maintenance than a villa. It is all about personal preference but with so many high quality property options there really is something on the market to suit every taste.

2. Medical Care

4. Retirement Visa3. Choice of Property Your choice of property in Thailand will be dictated by a number of considerations. If you are an urbanite and wish to stay in Bangkok then the best option is to invest in a condominium and the country’s capital has developments which can cater to absolutely any budget.

Most retirees prefer to be a little closer to the sea and Phuket and Pattaya are particularly popular. Both these places have a healthy selection of villas which are perfect for retired people as they tend to offer easy

In order to qualify for a retirement visa in Thailand you need to be at least 50 years of age and be able to demonstrate that you have at least 800,000 Baht in a bank account.

The first step is to apply for a non-immigrant retirement visa which you can do back home. You need to make sure that your passport is valid for at least a year, that you can prove you meet the financial criteria and that your passport is issued by the actual country you are applying from.

Once you are in Thailand you need to convert this to a one year retirement visa. First you will need to set up a Thai bank account and get a medical certificate from a Thai hospital but you have 90 days to get everything done so there is no rush and your one year retirement visa will be valid for a year from the day you receive it.

The process is very straightforward and thousands of people apply successfully for one year retirement visas every year. In fact there are so many foreign retirees now settled in Thailand that, whatever country you come from, you are likely to find a whole community of people hailing from exactly the same place.

There is much more to Thailand than the capital and major tourist resorts.

Chiang Mai, in the north, is the city that feels like a village where you can enjoy a slow pace of life while still living in close proximity to an international airport and international hospital.

Or for those that like it a little more rural Nong Khai, in the northeast, has been voted the top destination for retirement and offers some extremely affordable living.

There is a good reason why Thailand is consistently voted among the most accommodating places in the world for retired people. Where better to enjoy the later years of your life than in the country known simply as ‘the Land of Smiles’?
