Dear
At Microsoft we believe in the power of technology to transform lives and enablepeople to realise their potential. With over ¾ of jobs requiring some form of IT
skills we understand it is essential that everyone in society has the opportunityto gain IT skills so that they can improve their opportunities for employment.
With this in mind, we have supported a number of charitable organisations andprojects providing IT skills to underserved people through community basedlearning. We have also invested in free resources to help organisations workingin this field.
We are approaching the later stages of our current project commitments and arelooking to our next phase of investment. We are interested in identifyingappropriate organisations working in the field of employability for underservedgroups, and with some experience of providing IT skills as part of their services.
Microsoft is planning to launch an employability initiative in September 2009. Aspart of the programme we’re looking to work with organisations who help peopleget back into employment. If you already do great work in this area of employability and have a proven track record we’d like to hear from you throughthe application process (see application form attached).
In order to be considered for grant support from Microsoft, organisations must:-
– Be a registered charity
– Work with socially excluded people/communities
– Be a significant provider of services helping people into employment
–Have existing employability services/projects in place with existing fundingstreams
– Be providing IT skills development as part of employability services
(Please refer to the guidance notes that cover eligibility before starting theapplication form.)
We are seeking projects with potential for 3 years support. However, grants willbe made annually, based on performance and with no forward commitment forfuture years. Grants are available for thirty thousand pounds, sixty thousandpounds and ninety thousand pounds.
We are keen to understand how such funds could improve, enhance or changethe programmes you already have in place for employability.
As well as grant support, Microsoft will be looking to provide other assistance torecipients. For example, software, learning materials, technical assistance,volunteers. There will be PR opportunities, the potential to work with otherMicrosoft partners, as well as possibilities to use the Microsoft brand in yourwork. Through such mechanisms, not only do we want to increase the value of the support we give, but also increase the chances of success for the granteesand their service users.
