cover of magazine review

Cover of magazine review I have used a red banner at the top of the page as I have also done in my contents page in order to make the name of the magazine stand out allowing the white and black to contrast against the red but also the yellow and white writing presenting an important article inside the magazine. Like the black and bold writing, the yellow writing on the cover of the magazine which could be noticed a couple of times is used to show the importance of the text and also to grab the reader’s attention. I’ve been inspired to use a banner for the top of the magazine after noticing this technique in some of the NME magazine editions where there is a red banner presenting a certain article title to grab the reader’s and viewer’s attention. For the name of the magazine I have used a font called Guanine and have then selected the option of outlining the white logo in a black outline to make the writing appear more bold and for it to stand out from all the other writing on the page even including the yellow writing. For the writing inside the top red box I have used a font called Kefa due to the close resemblance of the font to the Arial font. For the word “ NEWS” I have highlighted the white text in yellow in order for it to stand out once again and show the level of importance on the page For the second box going down on the left hand side of the cover of the magazine I have used the inspiration taken from a different edition of NME magazine where certain articles are shown on the left hand side using pictures and small amount of bold text to present the readers of the magazine with quick introductions of what the content is before even checking out the contents page. I have used images of the subjects I photographed previously in my photo-shoot. I decided the names each one of them will have an have shortened an introduction for the articles which could be found about them. Due to the limited amount of space, I have created between 3 to 4 red rectangular shapes next to the photographs to enter the names of the artists as titles ( The Arial font) and also the white text for I have also included 2 types of star-bursts as additional information which include Questions and answers and also a competition which may grab the attention of readers and make them more likely to purchase the magazine. In both starbursts I have used the Arial font due to the simplicity of it on the page and have also changed the colour to yellow in the top left hand corner starburst due to the transparency of the box and then I have used a black outline to make it stand out against the background and the background photograph. In the circular light blue starburst I have used white writing due to the lower level of importance on the page. I have selected the shapes tool on Photoshop and then selected the fill in option to turn the circle blue. What this has done is that it gave my magazine a wider range of colours other than the main theme colours of red, white, black and yellow.

Cover of magazine reviewI have used a red banner at the top of the page as I have also done in my contents page in order to make the name of the magazine stand out allowing the white and black to contrast against the red but also the yellow and white writing presenting an important article inside the magazine.

For the word “ NEWS” I have highlighted the white text in yellow in order for it to stand out once again and show the level of importance on the page

For the second box going down on the left hand side of the cover of the magazine I have used the inspiration taken from a different edition of NME magazine where certain articles are shown on the left hand side using pictures and small amount of bold text to present the readers of the magazine with quick introductions of what the content is before even checking out the contents page. I have used images of the subjects I photographed previously in my photo-shoot. I decided the names each one of them will have an have shortened an introduction for the articles which could be found about them. Due to the limited amount of space, I have created between 3 to 4 red rectangular shapes next to the photographs to enter the names of the artists as titles ( The Arial font) and also the white text for the short intro also written in the font of Arial but instead I kept it white and sharp instead of bold.

I have also included 2 types of star-bursts as additional information which include Questions and answers and also a competition which may grab the attention of readers and make them more likely to purchase the magazine.

I have selected one of each set of images I have taken of each individual at the photo-shoot in November. I have removed the green screen using the rubber tool on Photoshop and then pressed the option of “select inverse” and then dragging the subject onto a blank page where I have played around with the contrast, brightness and vibrancy levels as much as the colours in the background. I have kept the first two photographs simple by leaving a blank- white background but in the third photograph I have added a dark grey background. I then turned the photograph black and white and have repeated the process that I have used with the text of dropping a shadow by right clicking onto the layer of the front image and then playing around with the different levels of shadows.

For the main title relatable to the main photograph used for the front cover of the magazine I have used a font entitled Abadi MT Condensend Ex. I have made it bold and then added a black outline and a shadow by right clicking the layer of the text and then selecting “ Blending option” and then pressing “ Drop shadow”. I have repeated this process consecutively throughout the creation of my magazine whenever I needed a thick outline for the text to stand out. This particular title is of a large font and is the second biggest text on the page. This shows that it is the second most important piece of text after the name of the magazine itself.

I have also added white extra information beneath the yellow title in the same font and have repeated the drop of the shadow to outline the writing.

I have added the date and price of the magazine beneath the title of the magazine because that is where readers of the magazine are most likely to look first and also above the barcode as I have seen other music magazines ( or magazines in general) do.

I have also created my own barcode using the software Photoshop where I have opened a new page and have selected ‘’ PHOTO” size. I have used the shapes tool to create multiple rectangular shapes of different lengths and widths and then have left a few gaps also as I have seen in an original barcode of a magazine.
