My main cover image

My model is Gina Kayali. Her piercing and clothing would appeal to my target audience. Also, the colours of her tights match my purple and white colour scheme.

Most magazine covers use white or plain-coloured backgrounds so that the reader won’t be distracted from the focal point (the model[s]). With this in mind, my background isn’t simple enough so I will have to blur it in Photoshop so that the reader’s attention stays on the model.

Drawing my example Kerrang magazine cover I created this plan.

The main cover-line and it’s explanatories are rotated slightly to imitate chaos and non-conformity.

Our eyes naturally follow a C shape when we look at something, so having my photo and text follow a C-shaped eye-flow will attract readers.

Cover PlanningDetailed Plan

This will have a torn effect to relate to the ‘rebel’ scene and to add to visual appeal.

The masthead will be in the font ‘Inked God’ chosen by the majority of people who did my questionnaire.

Main Cover-line. This kicker should be interesting and it’s explanation will have the model credit. My model isn’t actually famous so having her name in the Kicker will not influence people to buy it.

The dateline and price will be integrated into the space for the barcode

Cover PlanningLooking at other Kerrang magazines, I realised when they only use one model for the cover it’s almost always a close-up and often has a column of images and text to the right or left.

Taking this into account I may change my cover plan.
