ACCREDITATION/ENDORSEMENTS

In November 2010, Wave College, Inc. was established as a separate corporation to comply with ABHE standards. On November 22, 2010, WLC was granted IRS 501(c)3 status as an in-state non-profit college in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

In 2000, then LLTC received religious exemption from the State Council for Higher Education in Virginia (SCHEV).

LLTC was renamed Wave Leadership College (WLC) in 2004 to reflect the broader vision of Steve Kelly, Senior Pastor of Wave Church and President of the college. He envisioned a program that offered an initial two-year associate-degree program that would eventually grow into a four-year college. Name change recognition was granted by SCHEV in 2005.

WLC was granted candidate status in February 2014, at the Associate of Ministry level by the Commission on Accreditation of the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE) 5850 T.G. Lee Blvd. Suite 130, Orlando, Florida, 32822 Ph. (407) 207-0808 www.abhe.org . All inquiries may be directed to the ABHE through any one of the above modes of communication.

Candidate status is a pre-accreditation status granted to those institutions that show promise of achieving accreditation within four years.

Wave Leadership College is a religious institution exempt from state regulation and oversight in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

INTRODUCTION

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Wave Leadership College was founded with a vision to combine the best of practical ministry training with accredited academic excellence. I believe that future Christian leaders are truly equipped for God’s call when they understand the reality of ministry life and comprehend the truth of God’s Word. In the world today, there are many great Christian colleges and there are many great churches. Wave Leadership College’s partnership with Wave Church brings the best of both life-giving environments together. Wave Leadership College is located on the main campus of Wave Church, a growing congregation of many thousands, which is influencing the world for Christ one day, one year, and one life at a time. Wave Church exists to be relevant and intentional in its mission to reach the lost and show the love of Jesus to our community and to our world.

To attend Wave Leadership College is to not only receive a life-changing education; it is to learn how to serve, to connect, and to catch the life, spirit, culture, and momentum of Wave Church. My desire is for every student to take the life and spirit of Wave Church as they return home and make meaningful contributions to their local churches, and as they go forward to plant churches and lead ministries around the world. If your heart is open and your mind is sharpened, you can’t help but catch a part of its passion and destiny. Come be a part of what God is doing at Wave Leadership College and Wave Church!

WAVE LEADERSHIP COLLEGE STORY

In 1999, Pastors Steve and Sharon Kelly arrived in Virginia Beach, Virginia, to pastor what was then Virginia Beach Christian Life Center. Before coming to the United States, Pastor Steve served as the Senior Associate Pastor at Hillsong Church in Sydney, Australia. He also served as the Director of Hillsong Bible College. His experience directing Hillsong Bible Church equipped him with a vision for a college that would provide theological education, practical ministry experience, and personal leadership training. These three elements became and remain the foundation for Wave Leadership College (WLC).

WLC began as Life Leadership Training Center (LLTC), and was led by Pastor Tom Harmon. He guided LLTC to a level of academic achievement that was recognized by both Oral Roberts University Educational Fellowship and International Christian Accrediting Association. In 2004, LLTC was renamed Wave Leadership College in order to reflect the broader vision of President Kelly. In 2005, Jason DeVerna was appointed Director of Wave Leadership College. Under his direction WLC became an Accredited Member of the Association of Independent Christian Colleges and Seminaries in 2007.

As WLC has grown in size and influence the board of directors saw the need to seek accreditation through an accrediting body that was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. In February 2010 the Association for Biblical High Education granted applicant status to WLC and on November 22, 2010 Wave Leadership College, Inc. was established as a separate 501 (c)(3) nonprofit corporation.

From 2010 to 2013, Wave Leadership College followed the procedures established by the ABHE, which included rigorous program evaluation, improved faculty credentials, construction of an on-site library, and additional elements necessary for the next step in the journey to accreditation.

In August 2013, Derek Holser, Esq., a long-time professor and board member of WLC, accepted the position of Executive Vice President. In addition, Stephanie Iaquinto, J.D., Ph.D. became the Academic Dean. During the Fall of 2013, they led the final phase of preparation for Candidate status approval by the ABHE, which was granted in February 2014. Candidate status is a form of provisional accreditation. It is awarded only to those colleges whom the ABHE believes will be able to qualify for Accredited status within 4 years. Candidate status is significant because it allows for dramatically increased transferability of credits, Federal financial aid, and international students.

In 2016, WLC opened new classrooms and office space. The classrooms contain the latest technology for instructors to present course information. WLC also made one classroom into a computer lab with the best equipment for students to gain relevant media experience and techniques.

WLC has indeed come a long way but it has further to go. President Steve Kelly, the Board of Directors, the Administration, and the Faculty and Staff are dedicated to maintaining the balance of practical ministry training, academic excellence and leadership development that are now the hallmarks of a WLC education. As we look to the future, we envision improved facilities, increased opportunities for graduates, and an expanded presence in the realm of training

future leaders. All of our decisions remain purposeful and determined to achieve our end in mind, which is to produce Christian leaders who will build the local church and transform their communities for the glory of God.

LOCATION AND FACILITIES

With its main campus located just two miles from the oceanfront resort area, Wave Leadership College is blessed to call Virginia Beach home. Virginia Beach is the largest city in Virginia, with nearly half a million residents. Every year, over three million visitors come to enjoy our beautiful beaches, incredible history and comfortable climate. Virginia Beach has a beautiful three-mile long boardwalk at the resort area, and the waterways are filled with fun-loving people kayaking, canoeing, and even parasailing.

In addition to the great water sports, Virginia Beach enjoys close proximity to Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown, the region known as “the Birthplace of America.” For thrill-seekers who need a little more excitement, the Busch Gardens and Kings Dominion amusement parks are not far away. It’s no wonder Virginia Beach is annually ranked among the best places to live in America, and why 24/7 Wall Street recently named Virginia Beach “the Best Run City in the USA.”

WLC is part of the main Wave Church complex located on 52 acres of land in the northeastern corner of Virginia Beach. The college campus is housed in the Wave Convention Center, a 120,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility that includes an auditorium, library, café, bookstore, an office complex, and student classrooms.

The library serves as a focal point for information access and intellectual exchange on the Wave Leadership College campus. Located just steps from the Wave Coffee Shop, the library offers access to thousands of volumes of research and subject specific material, and electronic access to thousands more through on-site internet access.

WLC is committed to excellence in every endeavor. Our students experience first-class instruction in a world-class facility. We are continually adding new equipment and updating our technological capacity so that every student has the benefit of a modern learning environment.

All students are required to complete core courses in general education, biblical studies and professional studies in order to provide well-rounded training that culminates in the awarding of the Associate of Arts in Ministry Degree. This structure allows students to achieve broad academic and practical outcomes that are important in every aspect of ministry and leadership.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

1. We believe the Holy Bible is the only inspired, infallible, and authoritative source of Christian faith and practice. The Bible is the supreme revelation from God, superior to conscience and reason, though not contrary to reason. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

2. We believe that there is one God, eternally present in three persons; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:26; Matthew 3:16-17, John 1:1-4)

3. We believe that man was created in the image of God, but as a result of sin is lost and powerless to save himself. (Genesis 1:26; 2:16-17; Romans 6:23)

4. We believe that the only hope for man is to believe on Jesus Christ, the virgin born Son of God, fully God, fully man. Through faith in Christ's life, death, and resurrection, mankind is redeemed. (Romans 10:9-10l, 13; John 3:16; Ephesians 2:1-10)

5. We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells all believers, and through the baptism of the Holy Spirit believers are empowered for Christian service, and gifted for this service. An evidence of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues as the Holy Spirit gives utterance. The Holy Spirit also enables believers to live a Christ-like life exhibiting Godly character. (Luke 11:13; Acts 1:8, 2:1-4, 8:17, 10:44-46, 19:6; Galatians 5:22-23; 1

9

Corinthians 12)

6. We believe that the Church is the Body of Christ, both universal and local, and is composed of individuals who through faith in Jesus Christ have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit. We believe that Christ Jesus is the Head and Lord of the Church. The mission of the Church is worship, evangelism, discipleship, and the nurturing and care of one another. (Matthew 28:1-20; Colossians 1:18; Ephesians 2:19-22)

7. We believe that eternal life in heaven is the reward of all who believe and receive Christ as their Lord.(Jn.3:16-17; Lk.23:43; Jn.14:2-3)

8. We also believe that those who do not accept Christ are condemned to an eternity apart from God’s presence, which the Bible declares to be the second death. (Jn.14:6; John 3:18; Revelation 21:8)

9. We believe that salvation is by faith and through grace alone. No amount of good works will produce justification before God. We further believe that the manifestation of faith and grace is a holy life expressed through righteous works. (Ephesians 2:8-10)

10. We believe in the calling and gifting of various ministries in the Church, including but not limited to apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers, and deacons. We believe that the Church has responsibility for recognizing, equipping, and commissioning these various ministries for the edification of the Body of Christ. (Ephesians 4:11-13; 1 Corinthians 12:12-30; Romans 12:3-8)

11. We believe that divine healing; physical, emotional, and spiritual is included in the atonement of Christ. Isaiah 53:4; Matthew 8:17; 1 Peter 2:24-25)

12. We believe in two sacraments of the Church; a) The Sacrament of Water Baptism. b) The Sacrament of Holy Communion. (Acts 2:38; Matthew 26:26-30)

13. We believe in the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ, the consummation of the Kingdom of God, and the restitution of all things spoken by the mouth of all the prophets since the world began. (Matthew 24:42-44; Acts 1:11; 3:19-21; Revelation 11:15)

(These 13 Articles of Faith do not represent the final authoritative word on Bible doctrine or Christian Theology. They reflect the basic tenets of historical, evangelical Christianity.)

INSTITUTIONAL GOALS

1. WLC students are presented with opportunities for spiritual and academic growth as they experience a high level of academic professionalism from motivated faculty members and administrators who are culturally sensitive, committed, personable, credentialed individuals, demonstrating in every way that they place the highest priority on investing in their students.

ADMISSIONS AND ENROLLMENT

ADMISSIONS POLICY

In fulfilling its mission to prepare and train future Christian leaders, Wave Leadership College sets requirements for admission that consider the following:

A prospective student’s relationship with Christ and his or her church involvement

A commitment to Christian service

Scholastic aptitude for postsecondary education

WLC requires the submission of documentation demonstrating the applicant’s aptitude in each of these areas, including:

1. High school transcript and transcripts from any colleges attended

2. A personal essay describing their journey as a Christian, their growth in Christ and their commitment to Christian service

3. A Christian Character Reference from a non-relative, preferably a pastor, who knows the applicant well and can provide the Admissions Committee with a candid assessment of their Christian maturity

4. A background check investigation authorization.

Each student also participates in a personal interview with a member of the Admissions Committee prior to acceptance. The applicant must be a born-again believer with verifiable attendance in a home church. It is important that their life demonstrates a real and practical relationship with Jesus Christ.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis for the fall and spring semesters, and are accepted as early as 12 months before the beginning of the requested semester. Application forms are available online at www.wavecollege.com. Admission documentation should be submitted online no later than one month prior to the beginning of classes for any given semester.

Upon receipt of and processing of an application, an official letter of notification will be sent to the student. When an individual has been accepted, s/he will also receive additional information regarding important dates for the beginning of the orientation held each semester in late July and early January. Accepted degree-seeking students will be assigned a Wave College email address and all further communication from the college will be sent to the Wave College email account.

Students currently enrolled in high school may apply to take WLC classes as part of our dual enrollment program. The Admissions Committee requires dual enrollment applicants to submit a Dual Enrollment Permission Form, completed by a school agent, verifying the applicant is currently in good standing and has aptitude for college-level coursework. Their

12

Page 13: Cover - Web viewA background check investigation authorization. ... an official letter of notification will ... either on the student’s official high school transcript or directly

WLC credits will become actualized at the time they receive their high school diploma and the Registrar receives an official high school transcript, with degree conferred.

PROVISIONAL ADMITTANCE

WLC recognizes that some applicants may be ready and able to succeed in college even while having a record that reveals previous academic challenges. Therefore, WLC may admit, on a provisional basis, students whose high school or prior college transcripts indicate a cumulative GPA below 2.0, or whose WLC application otherwise indicates that the student may need additional academic support.

Students who are provisionally admitted to WLC are required to complete their provisional semester with a grade point average of 2.0 or better and meet the biblical and theological studies course requirement. Upon this completion, the provisional designation will be removed. Students entering WLC on a provisional basis who do not achieve a 2.0 grade point average and meet the biblical and theological studies course requirement for the first term of enrollment are subject to immediate dismissal. All provisions of the Dismissal policy then apply.

In order to assist provisional students in reaching this goal, students are asked to meet with their academic advisor a minimum of once per month.  It is the student’s responsibility to schedule and attend this monthly meeting.  The advisor will communicate in the areas of time management, school assignments, study strategies, and personal spirituality.

TRANSFER OF CREDITS

The WLC Associate Degree requires 22 credit hours of General Education courses, 24 credit hours of Biblical Theological Studies, 12 credits of Professional Development Electives, and 4 credits of Leadership Experience and Practicum (LEAP).  Up to 49% of those total credit hours may be transferred from other institutions; however, all enrolled students must take the following courses offered at WLC:  Life Skills, Bible Study Methods, Systematic Theology, The Work of the Holy Spirit, and 3 LEAP credits. further consideration is necessary. All potential transfer courses will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The decision of the Academic Dean is final and the outcome will be noted in the student file.

In addition to credits from accredited institutions, credits from unaccredited institutions may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

The student will be re-admitted with the same academic standing held at the time of withdrawal from the college. All admissions requirements in effect at the time of re-enrollment must be met.

REGISTRATION

Certain courses are offered on a rotating basis with the degree-seeking student in mind. WLC reserves the right to regulate the number of students within a class and to cancel a class with insufficient enrollment to justify its continuance. Students may use the add/drop period to adjust their schedules due to cancelled classes.

Registration begins approximately two months prior to the beginning of each semester and may be done online or on campus. Returning students will be invited to register first. Incoming (first time WLC) students will be invited to register once returning students have had adequate opportunity to complete course requests. First time WLC students must pay a $50 non-refundable enrollment deposit prior to registering.

All requirements for admission or re-admission must be completed prior to attending class.

ORIENTATION

All degree-seeking students are required to participate in the orientation scheduled at the beginning of each academic year. Orientation serves to assist students in adjusting to college life and includes an overview of culture, policies, procedures, and services of the college.

Orientation begins in late July/early August for the fall semester, and in January for the spring semester. This orientation is designed to give students an understanding of the culture and expectations of Wave Leadership College. It identifies the

14

key elements of creating and sustaining a positive organizational culture and introductory leadership concepts. It also encompasses information on successful student habits and study skills and testing to identify student strengths and weaknesses. This orientation is offered each summer in order to introduce and reinforce the importance of academic scholarship within the body of Christ, set clear expectations for student performance and conduct, and provide an overview and explanation of the WLC statement of faith. Students assume leadership roles in the organization and execution of a Wave Church conference.

Non-degree seeking students are those students who are attending classes but are not working towards the completion of a degree. Non-degree seeking students are limited to taking no more than 12 credit hours at WLC. Dual enrollment students are considered non-degree seeking.

Non-degree seeking students who wish to convert their status to degree-seeking must first complete the application process and be accepted to the program. Admission as a non-degree seeking student does not guarantee admission as a degree-seeking student. Only completed credits that meet minimum academic standards (“C” or better for biblical and theological courses and passing grade on all other courses) can be applied towards the degree program.

AUDIT

Many of WLC’s courses are available for audit. Students who audit a course may attend each class meeting and participate in class discussions, but may not submit work, take assessments, or in any other way require individual feedback from an instructor. Classes which rely heavily on in-class student/instructor interaction, such as media production and computer classes, may not be available for audit. No credits are earned by auditing a course. The audit rate is $200 for a 3-credit hour course. Students who wish to audit a course may contact the Registrar directly.

COURSE LOAD

15

Page 16: Cover - Web viewA background check investigation authorization. ... an official letter of notification will ... either on the student’s official high school transcript or directly

The full-time academic load is between 12-17 credit hours per semester. For most students, a course load of 14-16 credit hours each semester will result in degree completion within two years. Any student who registers for more than 18 credit hours in a semester will be required to complete an Academic Petition.

NONDISCRIMINATION POLICY

Wave Leadership College does not discriminate in its acceptance of any applicant on the basis of race, color, disability, gender, national origin, or ethnic origin. Since WLC is a Christian Bible College and is based on biblical standards, WLC will review an applicant’s religious affiliation as a prior to acceptance. Anyone who claims to be a Christian and has proven to be so by displaying a lifestyle consistent with Biblical revelation, ethics, moral standing, and is in acceptance of our statement of faith, is welcome to apply.

Wave Leadership College is also bound by Federal and State Laws which may affect a student’s ability to apply and be accepted for enrollent at WLC. If an applicant is not an American citizen or does not have the proper authorization to be in the United States, the College will defer to the laws governing such circumstances to allow international applicants the opportunity to attend WLC.

Anyone seeking to attend WLC who has any questions about our standards should contact Wave Church for further information as Wave Church is the covering Corporation for WLC. You may also refer to the Statement of Faith in the Student Catalog.

RESOURCES

LIBRARY

Located in the northeast corner of the Wave Church building adjacent to the college’s administrative offices, the WLC Library offers students, faculty, and staff a quiet place to read, study, conduct research, and write.   Computers are available for student use, and wi-fi is available with a WLC password.

The library is open Monday and Tuesday 9:00am – 9:00pm, Wednesday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Circulation desk hours vary from semester to semester and are posted in the library.   Materials may be checked out at other times through the administrative offices.

Currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff members, as well as their spouses, may borrow materials during regular circulation desk hours.  Students may borrow up to three items at a time for up to two weeks.   Reference materials and periodicals may not, however, leave the library.

Additional policies and procedures are outlined in the WLC Library Guide, which is available online at http://www.wavecollege.com/student-resources/library/. Copies are also available in the library.

PROFESSIONAL AND ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT (PAD) OFFICE

16

Page 17: Cover - Web viewA background check investigation authorization. ... an official letter of notification will ... either on the student’s official high school transcript or directly

Wave Leadership College is committed to helping students flourish not only while enrolled as a student, but in the months and years to follow. The WLC Professional and Academic Development Office is designed to provide information and guidance on the steps necessary to reach academic and career goals. This service is open to full-time students, part-time students, and alumni, and includes:

1. Professional Advising – PAD advisors are available to meet with students, as needed, to help coach and advise in the areas of résumé writing, interview preparation, professional etiquette, job searching, financial management, and college transfer options.

2. Academic Advising – PAD advisors are available for regular meetings, as needed, to discuss time management, give class schedule advice, and study skill strategies. Students may also use this service to test for and/or discuss learning disabilities and helpful accommodations.

3. Writing Center – PAD advisors are available for an appointment to aid in thesis development, help with an outline, paper concept support, reviewing drafts, assistance with Turabian formatting, and/or any other writing assistance they may need. In addition, professors may utilize the Writing Center tutors in class to provide additional writing instruction and may require students to attend an appointment with the Writing Center before submitting paper elements.

Email [email protected] to make an appointment.

COMPUTER AND INTERNET USE

Recognizing that access to instructional technology is important to students’ academic success, WLC provides a number of computer and internet resources for use while on campus.

The WLC Library houses computers that students may use for research and homework. The WLC computer lab is available for students both during classes and outside of class time to complete assignments. Students may also bring their own laptop computers and other electronic devices to campus, provided they abide by instructor guidelines for classroom use.

A wi-fi internet connection is available for student use. Students are limited the Wave Leadership College wi-fi network while on campus, unless they are granted access to another wi-fi network while working, interning, or otherwise serving in a department of Wave Church or Wave Learning Center. The WLC wi-fi network is accessible by password only, and students are prohibited from distributing that password to others.

Copyright infringement – which includes downloading music or software files; reproducing logos, photos, or other images; or otherwise violating the copyright owner’s exclusive rights without his or her permission – is a serious offense that is subject to institutional disciplinary measures as well as possible civil and criminal consequences. Students are encouraged to seek guidance from the Office of the Academic Dean or from resources such as copyright.gov to determine what actions constitute a possible violation.

All use of technology on campus, whether through WLC computers or through students’ personal devices, is governed by the WLC Technology Agreement. Students are required to sign this agreement prior to using any technology at WLC.

LEAP (LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE AND PRACTICUM)

17

Page 18: Cover - Web viewA background check investigation authorization. ... an official letter of notification will ... either on the student’s official high school transcript or directly

LEAP is part of the required curriculum for the Associate of Ministry degree and is designed to offer students practical, hands-on experience in a variety of ministry roles and settings. In addition to affording practical ministry experience, LEAP provides an opportunity for students to train and work in a supervised setting with specific responsibilities geared toward achieving predetermined goals. These goals are established prior to the program commencement and agreed upon by both the supervisor and student. Progress toward achieving these goals is determined through periodic, scheduled evaluations or meetings at the beginning, mid-point and conclusion of each term, or as otherwise specified by the students supervisor or LEAP Director. Program details can be fund in the LEAP Handbook.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

ATTENDANCE

Students are expected to attend and be on time for all classes, and active participation in class meetings is essential to learning.  While occasional absences may be due to circumstances beyond the student’s control (for example, illness or family emergencies), absences must be communicated in advance to the course instructor.  Whether an absence is excused will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Excessive absences may result in course failure. In a sixteen-week semester, four unexcused absences may result in course failure.

CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR/POLICY ON ELECTRONIC DEVICES

WLC strives to maintain a professional atmosphere in which effective communication is practiced by administrators, faculty members, staff members, and students. Students are encouraged to engage in a lively exchange of ideas while maintaining a respectful attitude to all participants. Cell phones and other communication devices must be turned off or silenced during class. Students may not text, browse the internet (except when specifically requested to do so by an instructor), or conduct any other kind of digital communication which detracts from their learning experiences. Students may not record any aspect of class without instructor permission. Students who are texting, answering personal emails, or using electronic devices in any other way unrelated to class are in violation of the Honor Code, they will be asked to leave and will be marked absent for that class period.

COURSE REGISTRATION CHANGES

ADD/DROP PROCEDURE

A student may add a class until the first day of classes. After the start of classes, students must submit an Add/Drop form to make any registration changes. Students may drop classes for a full tuition refund until the close of the business day on Friday of the first week of every semester. Students will receive a reduced tuition refund for dropped classes up until the third week of every semester. (See the Academic Calendar for specific dates and refund amounts.) Add/Drop forms are available from the Registrar’s Office. No student is allowed to change his or her course registration without completing the add/drop procedures.

COURSE WITHDRAWAL

After the add/drop week, students who wish to withdraw from a class must file an Academic Petition with the Registrar. A withdrawal completed after the first week, but prior to the end of the eighth week, will appear on the student’s transcript as a “VWD”.

Withdrawal after the eighth week will appear on the student’s transcript as a “WP” or “WF,” depending on the student’s grade in the course at the time of withdrawal. Failure to follow proper procedures when withdrawing from a class may result in automatic failure for that course.

WITHDRAWAL FROM COLLEGE

19

Page 20: Cover - Web viewA background check investigation authorization. ... an official letter of notification will ... either on the student’s official high school transcript or directly

A student must complete the Semester and/or College Withdrawal form to officially withdraw from the college. Failure to attend classes is not considered an official notice and may result in a failing grade for all courses in progress at the time the student stops attending. This form is available in the Registrar’s Office. The student will be asked to complete an Exit Survey via email or in person.

If the institution receives no contact from the student, the college will automatically establish a withdrawal date 14 days after a student’s last known activity in the program. A letter will be sent to notify the student of the withdrawn status and further notices will be generated from the Financial Aid Office, if warranted.

ACADEMIC STANDING

WLC recognizes three categories of academic standing: Good Academic Standing, Academic Probation, and Dismissal.

GOOD ACADEMIC STANDING

In order to remain in good academic standing, students must maintain a minimum of 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) while also earning a C- or higher in biblical and theological studies courses. (See the Curriculum Overview to determine which courses are included in this category.)

Academic standing will be evaluated on a semester basis and students on probation or dismissal will be notified of their status. Failure to remain in good academic standing can affect a student’s eligibility for financial aid and eligibility to graduate.

If a student is ineligible for financial aid because the student does not meet satisfactory academic progress requirements, the notice will describe how students may reestablish eligibility.

ACADEMIC PROBATION

Students are placed on academic probation when their cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 or when their semester GPA falls below 2.0 for the second consecutive semester. Students are notified of their probationary status by email to their Wave College email account. Students placed on academic probation must meet with the Professional and Academic Development (PAD) Director to discuss the terms of Academic Probation prior to completing the course request process for the upcoming semester.

Terms of academic probation include the following: Students must meet with a full-time faculty member on a monthly basis to discuss success strategies. Students are required to maintain satisfactory attendance in each class in which they are enrolled. Satisfactory

attendance is defined by each instructor in the course syllabus. Students will not be permitted to take more than 16 credit hours. Students must earn a minimum 2.0 each semester in which they are on probation.

It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the above requirements are complete. It is up to each student to initiate contact with instructors, full-time faculty, and deans.

20

Page 21: Cover - Web viewA background check investigation authorization. ... an official letter of notification will ... either on the student’s official high school transcript or directly

If a student successfully completes each of the above requirements, probation will be removed and the student will be considered in good standing. Probation may continue for a maximum of two consecutive semesters. If a student fails to achieve good academic standing after two semesters, the student will be academically dismissed.

Students on academic probation are automatically placed on financial aid warning.

ACADEMIC DISMISSALStudents who are academically dismissed from the college may not attend WLC for one semester. Students who are academically dismissed may reapply for admittance after one full semester and must show satisfactory evidence that they have prepared themselves for continued academic work.

INCOMPLETES

Courses in which the student is given an “I” (incomplete) must be completed within eight weeks of the last scheduled day of the course, or the final exam day, whichever is later. The “I” will be converted to a letter grade (A through F) and the grade used to calculate the student’s prior semester GPA.

REPEATING COURSES

A student who earns a grade lower than C- in a core biblical or theological studies course, or who earns an F in any other course, will be required to retake that course. If taken at WLC, the new grade will replace the previous grade earned and will be used in the calculation of the student’s GPA.

TIME LIMIT POLICY

While there are no specific time limits for completing associates degrees, the academic department has the obligation to change program requirements in order to incorporate the latest field developments. Occasionally, education requirements may be changed in order to provide students with the most current educational experience.

Students are encouraged to be on track to complete their degrees in no longer than 150% of the published length of the program. Therefore, the undergraduate students who do not complete their degrees within three (full-time coursework) or six (part-time enrollment) consecutive years from the first semester in which they completed any WLC coursework may be subject to adopt the newest academic catalog requirements. (This time limit includes semesters during which students are not enrolled.)

SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS (SAP)

To maintain eligiblity for federal and private financial aid programs, students must enroll in an eligible degree program and make satisfactory academic progress. Two general factors contribute to SAP: (1) students must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and (2) students must successfully complete 67% of all attempted credits. Progress is measured at the conclusion of every semester.

SAP is not the same as academic standing required for graduation.

Students on academic probation are automatically placed on financial aid warning.

21

Page 22: Cover - Web viewA background check investigation authorization. ... an official letter of notification will ... either on the student’s official high school transcript or directly

SAP time limit: Students who exceed 150% of the published length of their program will not be given a Financial Aid Warning semester; they will go immedately into finacial aid inelegibility.

ACADEMIC HONESTY

Students are expected to complete assignments with integrity. This means that all written assignments, projects, quizzes, and papers reflect the student’s own work and have been submitted for credit only in this course. (Multiple submissions of the same work are not permitted unless prior approval has been given by all involved instructors.) Academic misconduct includes the following:

1. Cheating (giving or receiving test or quiz answers);2. Collaborating on an assignment without prior approval from the instructor;3. Deviating from instructor guidelines regarding take-home, closed-book quizzes or tests;4. Engaging in plagiarism. Plagiarism is, either intentionally or unintentionally, presenting the words or ideas of others without proper citation to give the impression that it is the student’s own work. As stated in the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, to plagiarize is to steal and pass off the ideas and words of another as one’s own; to use another’s production without crediting the source; to commit literary theft; and/or to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source.

Any instructor with evidence that a student has engaged in academic misconduct will, after consultation with the Academic Dean, impose disciplinary action, which may involve any or all of the following:

• Requiring the student to redo the assignment.• Giving no credit for the assignment.• Referring the matter to the Dean of Students for further action, up to and including dismissal from Wave

Leadership College.

The comprehensive Code of Conduct, Honor Pledge, and Grievance Policy are provided in the WLC Student Handbook.

DEAN’S LIST

Following each semester, the Academic Dean recognizes those students who have excelled academically by recognizing the Dean’s List. This award goes to students who have earned a 3.67 or above for any semester enrolled. Certificates are presented during a chapel service or awards ceremony.
