MOVIE Time comes to TimeBanking:Timebank Volunteer explores the UniverseTimebank volunteer (on the right) Jason Williams' scientific and educational

charitable company, EAARO's purpose is to study the universe, track satellitesand use the great space science adventure to inspire people to pursuescience, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects and careers.”

The first major project for EAARO (East Anglian Astrophysical ResearchOrganisation) was to function as the primary UK ground-station for thecrowd-funded KickSat satellite mission, which launched in April2014 from Cape Canaveral on a Falcon 9 rocket, piggy-backing on a Space-Xresupply mission to the International Space Station.

Working in partnership with NASA, the University of Cornell's Spacecraft Design Laboratory, and the BritishInterplanetary Society, EAARO's job was to track the KickSat cube sat and the hundreds of chip sized Sprite micro-satellites that it deploys into Low Earth Orbit. The Sprites have been designed to help NASA study the behaviour ofspace debris.

EAARO's latest ventures include the design and construction of a novel radar system to track meteors as they enter theearth’s atmosphere above the UK, and a specially commissioned children's book aimed at introducing space topics toyoung primary school students.

Jason, a sound and communications professional has assembled a team including co-director Jeff Lashley, a radioastronomy author and technical officer at the UK’s National Space Centre in Leicester.

Jason added: “EAARO has the support of a number of key people in the space research sector includingProfessor Mike Garret of ASTRON in the Netherlands, cosmologist Professor Paul Davies at theUniversity of Arizona, and Dr Alex Kraus of the Max Planck Institute in Germany.”

“We also have strong links with the Centre for Astrophysics at the University of Hertfordshire and other Universitiesacross the UK”

The Organisation has its own radio astronomy observatory, consisting of a wide array ofradio and data processing equipment housed in a 20-foot shipping container and a pairof converted radio cabins and dish antenna pods from an ex-Royal Signals radar trackingstation.Jason has funded EAARO almost entirely from his own pocket and he is keen to attractdonations and sponsorship. He said: “I wanted to give something back after 28 years inthe sound and communications industry.” For more information, please contact Jason,on 07802 357542 or email [email protected].

6 years of TimeBanking in St NeotsEven I find it hard to realise the success of St Neots TimeBank, from sitting on the Market Square tellingpeople about the idea to this month, celebrating 6 years with 206 members and still increasing. The successstories of helping people and even changing lives is so pleasing to know that we have made such a differencefor so many people.

We’ve grown from justme as coordinator tome and an advisoryteam of 10 members, who help me byrunning the events. Wemeet monthly to plan each month as it comes. We’re all voluntary workers and continue to be soas the joy we bring others is irreplaceable. We are now also recognised by so many careorganisations reaching those people that are

lonely or unable to cope. Once again, we’re filling in the gaps that the Welfare doesn’t cover. We are more than just a TimeBank as we organise events & courses and have genuine concern for others. Each month our Coffee mornings have a different theme – March was our anniversary of 6 years.Unfortunately, the snow stopped us celebrating. Not to be defeated we re-arranged the day on the 17th

March and yes it snowed yet again, but not so heavily this time and a few of our members managed to getthere and enjoyed our company and the cake made by the members of Switch Now. Georgina/Coordinator

Have you seen the Constabulary’s new website?Cambridgeshire Constabulary have launched a brand-new website with a range ofinnovative tools to help you communicate your issues. The website now has addedfunctionality to report non-emergencies via specially designed forms.Amongst the updated features is a web-chat service, which allows visitors to chat directlywith 101 operators alongside specialist reporting tools, for example: Road traffic collision reporting Dangerous driving reporting (anti-social) Non-emergency crime reporting Concern reporting (intelligence)The website also features up-to-date accessibility features such as ReciteMe; an accessibility tool that allowsthe website to be adapted for users with visual impairments or language preferences.Reporting non-emergencies online Non-emergency situations can now be reported to the police online ifpeople would rather do so than call 101.The live webchat option enables people to communicate directly with a member of staff in the control room, just as would be the case when calling 101. Online forms are processed in the same way as a call and theperson reporting can expect a response within 24 hours.Due to the high level of demand there are often queues when calling 101. Reporting online is quick, easy andfree of charge.Superintendent James Sutherland said: “The system went through a thorough testing process and has beenused successfully thousands of times since being introduced. Feedback from a recent survey suggested thatsome people wanted to communicate directly with a person rather than submitting an online form. Thewebchat function allows people to do exactly that.” “Reports submitted online are treated in the same way aswhen people call 101 and will receive the same outcome.” To view the online reporting section of theconstabulary’s website visit www.cambs. police.uk/report/. The live webchat function is available by clickingon the green icon on the bottom right of the site.Getting in touch:It’s important that the Commissioner and his team represent your views, so if you want to get in touch pleasedo. Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group(CCG) are expecting a financial deficit of up to £48 million for 2017/18. This is more than three times the£15.5 million deficit previously agreed with NHS England. The CCG are one of the largest in the UK and are responsible for planning and paying for most health careservices locally. Although this £48 million sounds a lot, and it is, it represents just 4% of the overallbudget for local health services. The CCG know that they need to tackle their financial problems and are talking to NHS England abouthow they can do this. The 2018/19 financial plan will be approved in the next few weeks. Want to knowmore … http://www.healthwatchcambridgeshire.co.uk/news/local-health
