installation hints• When installing, make certain the film is placed on

top of the greenhouse according to the folds.• The film should be installed during the early

morning hours (cooler without wind).• Do not stretch the film on hot days as it will

contract when cool and may weaken.• Static air pressure between the two layers should

be between 0.2 and 0.4 inches of water on a manometer.

• Use outside air to inflate as it's less humid and less likely to contain chemicals.

• Avoid direct spraying of chemicals on film surfaces.• Paint all metal and wood surfaces touching the

poly with white latex paint. Never use oil-base paint. Do not use chemically treated lumber.

• Avoid contact with PVC and vinyl.• Smooth the surface of metal and wood parts.• Use only repair tape recommended for poly.

manometerA manometer is a simple device for measuring air pressure between two layers of poly. You can make one out of a piece of wood, 1/4" clear plastic tubing, and a ruler. The key rule of thumb is to inflate the poly to 1/4" of water. This means that in the “U” shaped plastic tube with water in it, the water on the side toward the poly is 1/4" lower than the side away from the poly. At this level, the poly will be approximately 12" to 16" apart at the center on wide greenhouses and 4" to 6" on more narrow ones.

The greatest energy loss in a greenhouse is through conduction and the greatest savings are realized with a double layer glazing system, such as the typical inflated double poly house. Studies have shown that a properly inflated double poly house can save over 40% in fuel costs compared to a single layer glazing. What you may not realize is that an additional 15%-20% can be saved by using a thermal film as one of the layers. Thermal films lower energy costs by reducing the radiant heat loss from the greenhouse, acting as a shield between your warm plants and the cold night sky. Since the radiant heat loss is reduced, heaters cycle less often and burn less energy to maintain their set point temperature. Thermal films should be installed as the bottom layer of a double poly system to take advantage of the anti-condensate properties. Although there is no harm in using two layers of thermal films, a second layer of thermal film doesn't add significantly to the energy savings.

how thermal films work: During the day in a greenhouse, the sunlight – comprised of both visible light and short wave infrared light – is absorbed by the plants, soil, and materials of construction, which results in them heating up. During the night, all objects that have absorbed this energy from the sun will release it as long wave infrared radiation. A thermal film will absorb and reflect this energy, keeping its warmth within the greenhouse environment, resulting in higher nighttime temperatures within the greenhouse. crop response to thermal films: AT Films Inc. thermal films will often have an effect on crop performance. Many growers report earlier color and/or more compact plants. This is most likely due to the increase in nighttime plant tissue temperature associated with reduced radiant heat loss. While these effects are subtle, you should expect crop development to be slightly accelerated when using DuraFilm®4 Thermal AC.

reduSol has been specifically developed for applications where the coat of whitewash applied to the greenhouse must last for a whole season. It provides an attractive white, even shading coat which can be easily removed using ReduClean at the end of the season. ReduSol is exceptionally resistant to the effects of frost and rain, and is UV stabilized.

ReduSol's shading effect can be adjusted according to need. A lighter shading effect can be provided in the spring, for example, than in the summer.

reduheat sets itself apart from other, more traditional shading agents due to its different ratio between light transmission and heat reflection. It is a coating that contains a special pigment which has the ability to transmit growth light (PAR) while increasing the reflec-tion of heat radiation (NIR). Another major advantage of ReduHeat is the adjustable shading effect. It gives you more control over the climate inside your greenhouse.

reduclean removes ReduSol Xtra from glass, poly-carbonate, and plastic film. It must be diluted with clean water before use in a ratio of 1 part ReduClean to 7 parts water. Add ReduClean to the water while stirring and spray on a dry greenhouse during dry weather, making sure that the shade coating is thoroughly moistened.
