Hi! My name is Andréa and I’m a pre-service Biology teacher in the MAT

program.

This is what I look like in

real life

And this is what I look

like in Second Life

After I found the Science Center, I successfully practiced speaking and listening in the sound lab.

Then I visited a performance stage, the Open Exploratory Network, and a Coffee Shop.

Why would anyone want to

drink virtual coffee? No caffeine!

I read through the course overview…

…and all the procedures and expectations.

I think that good teaching requires…

Appraisal

Planning

Purpose

PassionEnjoy your subject! Enjoy your students! Enjoy your profession!

What should students learn? Why?

Make this stuff interesting & relevant!

How am I doing?

A little about me…

My husband, my dog, and me. We love

spending time

outdoors!

Before the MAT program…

• I was a research student prepping for entrance into a PhD program in Evolutionary Biology.– My research background is in

Behavioral Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.

– (I wrote a 72 page Master’s thesis on bioacoustics.)

• I was given a teaching assistantship and never looked back! – (I should have known –

everyone in my family is a teacher.)

Fieldwork in the Bahamas.(I didn’t do research on sea

stars, though!)

During the MAT program…

• I’ve been working in retail while completing the first year requirements.– (At least I get a discount )

• I’ve just been offered a six week long term sub position at a private school, teaching Living Environment, Practical Chemistry, and Forensics.– (I’m super excited!)

Some of my many science idols

In my spare time, I enjoy…

• Learning more science – (I’m a total nerd…luckily

my husband is too.)

• Running• Baking – (Compromise with

running )

• Doing outdoor activities – birding, hiking, skiing, swimming Not actually me.

I don’t look that triumphant at the

end of a race.

I’m looking forward to meeting you!
