Major events at Electric Loco Shed - 2019 – 20

COVID-19 PREPAREDNESS AND PROCUREMENT.

1. This shed has prepared 550 litres sanitizer at its lab as per WHO's recommendation

indigenously. The shed manufactured sanitizers along with 02 nos. masks have been

given not only to all the personnel (approximately 805 nos. of the shed staff) but also

distributed to approximately 2000 Rly. Quarters of ASN which includes Durand Loco

Colony, Domhani, Chelidanga, Traffic Colony to fight with the present grave situation.

The shed has taken care the demand of sanitizers of other divisional personnel also.

Procurement of 8000 nos. of 3-layer masks has been done and the same have been

distributed among shed personnel and different railway colonies.

Non-stock procurement of raw material for in-house preparation of 550 liters of hand

sanitizer has been done.

2. Non-stock procurement of 600 liters of sodium hypochlorite solution along with 05

nos. spray machines has been done for disinfection of shed premises, sections and

locomotives.

3. 150 nos. of 750 ml pouched Dettol liquid soap and 2000 nos. of 125 gm soap bars

have been procured and distributed among the shed personnel.

4. As a preventive measure, thermal screening of the personnel at shed has been

undergoing on daily basis through thermal temperature Gun.

6. Foot operated water tap along with soap dispenser has been manufactured through

In house effort for the use of shed personnel to avoid infection.

7. Social distancing norms are strictly being maintained at work premises of ELS/ASN.

8. Complete Electric Loco Shed including all sections is being disinfected twice with

Sodium Hypochlorite solution on daily basis.

9. Sanitization of Loco cab is being done on regular basis.

10. Work is being carried out through roaster duty at ELS/ASN.

11. Coloured posters containing Do’s / Don’ts have been pasted all over the shed for

creating awareness.

12. Sanitizer/Liquid soap has been kept at PPO & all sections of ELS/ASN and it has been

instructed to use these frequently to maintain hygiene.

13. Maintaining of social distancing with each other to prevent any type of infection.

Quality Certification

Six Sigma : As a part of quality certification process, ELS/ASN has been certified with Lean & Six Sigma implementation. The said certificate has been handed over to respected General Manager/ER during his visit on 10.01.2020 by M/s. Anexas, Europe, certifying body.

As a part of workplace Management process / quality certification process, ELS/ASN has been certified with the prestigious 5S Certificate. ELS/ASN has successfully achieved and implemented the standard of 5S in its workplace.

Integrated Management System (IMS) :

As a part of quality certification process, ELS/ASN has been certified with Integrated Management System (IMS) which includes ( ISO 9001-2015 – Quality Management System, ISO 14001:2015 – Environment management system & ISO 45001:2018 – Occupational Health & Safety management system) in Oct’19.

Consist Formation 1st time in Eastern Railway at ELS/ASN :

o 05 nos. of WAG-5 consist of 03 locos each formed at ELS/ASN which is 1st time in

Eastern Railway.

Day Light Harvesting Project:

o Electric Loco Shed/Asansol commissioned solar pipe lights on 13.11.19 as a part of

day light harvesting. This is the 1st time in Eastern Railway that day light harvesting

has been started. Huge improvement in illumination level during day time has been

observed in the areas where the said light has been commissioned. The same has

not only increased illumination level in working place but also reduced energy

consumption.

Commissioning of MPCS-Version-III with GPS facility at shed level :

o For the 1st time in house MPCS V-III with GPS facility commissioned at ELS/ASN

despite this is a workshop level job. However now total 22 nos. ELS/ASN based

Locomotives are provided with version-III type MPCS, out of which 13 Locos have

been commissioned at ELS/ASN.

In-House MPCS commissioning :

Increased Holding of Locomotives. ELS/ASN has homed total 34 nos. Locomotives in 2019-20, thus the holding has increased

from 132 to 166 Locomotives.

Scrap To Art :

As advised by Divisional Railway Manger, ELS/ASN has fabricated a few models from

scrap as a part of “Scrap to Art”. An Art gallery has been formed at ASN Rly. Station with

the said models.

Inauguration of Induction Heater :

As an infrastructural developmental measure for implementing improved maintenance

practice, Induction heater has been procured through N.S. for heating of end shield of

Traction Motor. The said newly procured induction heater has been inaugurated by

respected PCEE on date 13.07.19.

Timer Test Bench :

A highly sensitive timer test bench with micro-second accuracy for monitoring the simultaneous operation of three phase contacts of EMC fabricated internally at ELS/ASN. This has saved more than 03 lakh rupees.

Respected Principal Chief Electrical Engineer / ER has inaugurated sand dryer along with the facility of automated sand filling machine fabricated at ELS/ASN in house (mostly of scrap material) & announced a cash award of Rs.5000/- for the said innovation.

HOM TEST BENCH : HOM test bench has been fabricated in-house for leakage testing of HOM valve during major schedule / unscheduled changing before fitment in Loco to reduce down time & also improve reliability as previously the valve was being tested only after fitment in Loco & if there would be any problem the same would be rectified, this lead to unnecessary wastage of valuable man hour.

Electrical Maintenance Hand Book :

Maintenance Hand Book prepared by Electrical section (E-2) as a ready reference to working personnel has been unveiled by respected GM/ER. The initiative will definitely upgrade the quality of day to day preventive maintenance at shed.

Pocket Trouble Shooting Directory prepared by E-1 section has been unveiled by

GM/ER. This will be very much useful for pin point trouble shooting of Locomotives at

line as well as shed.

ORS Introduction : A drive has been carried out at ELS/ASN during Summer to avoid de-hydration of working personnel. Oral Re-hydration Salt water (O.R.S.) is being introduced to cope up with the scorching heat of summer. Daily approximately 150 to 200 working personnel are drinking the said ORS-water This drive has welcome by all staff & supervisors and also appreciated at all level.

Annual Sports Meet : Annual Sports meet 2020 was organised by TRS/ASN at Divisional Railway Stadium,

Asansol. The Meet was inaugurated by respected DRM/ASN/ER.

o In-house SIV commissioning replacing ARNO to improve reliability of auxiliary

motors though it is a work shop level job.

o CCTV camera installed at ELS/ASN to closely monitor the shunting work and other

day to day activities of ELS/ASN.

bay metal halides of 400 Watt for better illumination as well as energy conservation.

Disposal of scrap :

ELS/ASN has met the target regarding scrap disposal for the year 2019 – 20 as total scrap

of 145.37 M.T. ( Ferrous – 134.30 MT & Non-Ferrous – 11.07 MT) has been disposed off

against the target of 135 MT (Ferrous – 125 MT & Non-ferrous – 10 MT)
