FAMILIES FIRST CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE ACT
This Act was passed by Congress on March 18, 2020
In effect from April 1, 2020 –December 31, 2020

• Provides access to no-cost COVID-19 testing
• Providing students access to nutritious meals
• Requires certain employers to provide their employees with paid sick leave or expanded family and medical leave for specified reasons related to COVID-19

CORONAVIRUS AID, RELIEF, AND ECONOMIC SECURITY ACT (CARES)$13.5 billion for K-12 Emergency Relief Funds
Based on Title I allocations (approximately 70-80% of current allocation)
We are waiting on guidance from the Nevada Department of Education to determine if these funds can be used on expenses already incurred by the state and school district
Funding expires on September 30, 2021
$3 billion to States for Governor’s Emergency Education Relief FundApproximately $26 million to NevadaAllows the Governor to provide additional dollars to school districts, higher education institutions, and/or charter schools significantly impacted by coronavirusWe are awaiting guidance from the Nevada Department of Education related to the application and distribution of these funds

NEVADA BUDGETOn April 3, the Governor announced that he had asked all state agencies to develop plans for a 4% reduction in FY20 and reduction of 6-14% in FY21.

All of these proposals were due to the Governor’s Budget Office on
April 13, 2020.
• FY20: $46.67 million (4% reduction)• FY21: $34.89 - 58.15 million (3 – 5% only)
The State’s Distributive Schools Account have been included for
possible reductions:
• FY20: $11.72 million (4% reduction)• FY21: $17.43 – 40.68 million (6 – 14%)
Other state grants (including SB178, Read by Grade 3, etc.) have also been
included for possible reductions:
