The not common things by COVO return to en-

rich the design dictionary. Simple and wise

objects made of few signs, but capable of be-

ing remembered. In the contemporary saturated

condition, we find ourselves surrounded more

and more by a world of things.

Material and immaterial things, real and imagi-

nary things, sacred and unholy things, things

which are useful and things which are not, good

and bad things.

The Design takes care of these things and can do

it in many ways: rethinking, reinventing, copying,

covering, playing aroundor being serious. Oth-

erwise, like COVO tries to do: by observing. Ob-

serving the world of things which surrounds us

and trying to imagine new objectswhich will take

their places in the empty spots of our imagina-

tion.

Objects born therefore, from the careful explo-

ration of the material landscape, thinking of our

world as a sheet full of signs which too often are

confused, and loose their meaning.

As it happens in childrens drawings, or in prehis-

toric graffiti (humankinds own infancy), where

few lines describe worlds and stories; the not

common things by COVO try to offer simplic-

ity, erasing confusion and focusing on emotion

rather than reason.

Therefore, between clothes hangers resembling

tree branches, tables like hedges, chairs like flow-

ering fields, seats that embrace, magic lamps

that raise, photo frames like strings stretched on

the wind and soft crystals, our world of things

becomes a world of signs. Simple signs, in

black and white or in colours, which like emo-

tional codes fill the blank sheet of our gaps.

The not common things by COVO are auton-

omous objects,capab le of relating with all our

landscapes, but are also phrasesof a story, the

story of COVO.

Tornano le cose non comuni di COVO ad ar-

ricchire il dizionario del design. Oggetti sem-

plici e sapienti, fatti di pochi segni ma capaci di

restare nella memoria. Nella satura condizione

contemporanea, siamo sempre pi circondati da

un mondo di cose.

Cose concrete e cose astratte, cose reali e im-

maginarie, cose sacre e cose profane, cose che

servono e che non servono, cose buone e cose

cattive.

Il Design si occupa di queste cose e pu farlo

in molti modi: ripensando, inventando, copiando,

rivestendo, giocando o prendendosi sul serio.

Oppure, come cerca di fare COVO, osservando.

Osservando il mondo di cose che ci circonda

e provando a immaginare nuove presenze che

vadano a prendere posto negli spazi vuoti della

nostra immaginazione.

Oggetti nati dunque dallattenta esplorazione del

paesaggio materiale, pensando al nostro mon-

do come ad un foglio pieno di segni che troppo

spesso si confondono, perdendo ogni loro signi-

ficato

E come succede nei disegni dei bambini, o nei

graffiti preistorici (infanzia stessa dellumanit),

dove poche linee descrivono mondi e storie, le

cose non comuni di COVO provano a regalare

semplicit, cancellando la confusione e riportan-

do i significati allemozione pi che alla ragione.

E dunque ecco che tra attaccapanni come rami,

tavoli come siepi, sedute come prati in fiore,

ma anche poltrone che abbracciano, lampade

magiche che crescono, portafoto come fili tesi

al vento e cristalli morbidi, il nostro mondo di

cose diventa un mondo di segni. Semplici

segni, in bianco e nero o a colori, che come

codici emozionali riempiono il foglio bianco dei

nostri spazi.

E le cose non comuni di COVO sono oggetti

autonomi, capaci di relazionarsi con tutti i nostri

paesaggi, ma sono anche frasi di uno stesso rac-

conto, il racconto di COVO.

With the strength of aesthetic tradition wich com-

bines the concept of elegance with that of sim-

plicity, COVO, italian DNA and international roots,

two terms developing an autonomus and distin-

ctive language, capable of marrying tradition

and contemporaneity classicism and avantgarde

design. With its first steps through the severity

of form and signs exported from Orient, it gives

character to its products while at the same time

remaining faithful to its origins, enriching them

progressively with new and costant stimulation

from the world of design. With and sensitive eye,

it directs and manages research that ranges from

the skilful uses of materials to the giving body to

the voices of designers, permitting itself an oc-

casion to go with an ironic spirit into the field of

experimentation, without overstepping the limit

into useless showmanship. The fantasy of formand attention to materials become the protago-

nists and the final product shines with a fresh and

extremely personal aesthetic with sacrificing fun-

ctionally. A strong identity founded on a primary

need of feasibilty, a harmonius marriage of form

and content, a brand capable of seducing and

L'appendiabiti copia le sue forme da uccelli

posati su fili. Ogni giorno a New York il desi-

gner passa sotto cavi riempiti da centinaia di

uccelli. Birds On Wire il tentativo di cattura-

re questa immagine in un prodotto. Una foto

di questa vista stata trasformata in metal-

lo tagliato a laser con ganci per le giacche.

Birds On Wire parte silhouette vittoriana,

parte flashback Flintstoniano che da' vita a

un complemento funzionale per qualsiasi

casa.

The Birds On Wire coat rack borrows its sha-

pe from, well, birds on a wire. Every day on

his commute into New York City, the designer

passes under wires filled with hundreds of

birds. He sought to capture

this beautiful sight in a product. A photo-

graph was abstracted and turned into a laser

cut metal outline with hooks for oats. Birds

On Wire is one part victorian silhouette, one

part Flintstones flashback, and one part fun-

ctional addition to any home.
