CJC MISSIONThe Cowboy Joe Club, through financial investment of alumni, fans and friends, is committed to providing the University of

Wyoming student-athlete with the opportunity to succeed in the classroom,

in competition and in life.

Where MEMBERSHIPS become SCHOLARSHIPS & RESOURCES.

MESSAGE FROM THE AD

On behalf of all UW student-athletes, coaches, and staff, thank you for making the Cowboy Joe Club the largest booster organization in

the Mountain West Conference. By being the first institution to obtain 5,000 donors

worldwide, we have the largest membership to our annual athletic scholarship fund.

Whether you have been a donor for many years or you are a first year member, your membership

to the Cowboy Joe club is imperative to the success and well-being of our 400+ University

of Wyoming student-athletes. Every gift made to Cowboy Joe is put to work to

enhance the student-athlete experience, both in and out of competition.

Once again this year, the State of Wyoming will support the University of Wyoming Athletics

Department by continuing its matching program. Meaning your gift will have

double the impact in 2018!

I invite and encourage you to join me and the more than 5,000 supporters of Cowboy Joe to continue to build on the success of Wyoming Athletics and renew your membership today!

The Scholarship Circle is comprised of a group of donors who are making a significant financial

commitment, on an annual basis, to dramatically impact a student-athlete’s academic and athletic success.

Scholarship Circle donors are assigned a specific student-athlete that matches the donor’s interest and criteria.

Through this special giving society, donors receive the following benefits:

• Personal interaction with their assigned student-athlete throughout the year (within NCAA rules)

• Invitation to an annual reception for all Scholarship Circle donors and student-athletes

• Personalized plaque with the student-athlete’s photo

• Equivalent credit and benefits in the Cowboy Joe Club

In 2017, there were 67 donors who were considered Scholarship Circle donors because of their $10,000+ membership contribution to Cowboy Joe. Contact the Cowboy Joe Club office if you would like to be a part of this special group of Cowboy Joe Club members.

Priority Parking has quickly become the most desired and popular benefit of Cowboy Joe Club membership. The tailgating atmosphere and new requests for premium parking have been tremendous over the past several years and we want to encourage this trend to continue! However, we want to make sure we are providing a quality experience for all of our donors in these lots.

After conducting an internal audit of our current prices, donor preferences, and proximity to both War Memorial Stadium and the Arena-Auditorium the following rules are in place for the 2018 Cowboy Football and 2018-19 Basketball Seasons.

• Football and Basketball parking will be allocated separately- Donors will be able to request lots for each sport based on their preference, availability, and priority points.

• Donation requirements will increase, or in some cases decrease, to match supply & demand in certain lots

• Provide more value for those Cowboy Joe Members who have season tickets

FOR SPECIFIC QUESTIONS RELATED TO 2018 PRIORITY PARKING, PLEASE CALL THE CJC OFFICE AT 307.766.6242

FOR QUESTIONS REGARDING TAILGATE ALLEY, PLEASE CONTACT THE CJC OFFICE.

Priority Parking Benefits are available to all Cowboy Joe Club members who make their annual contribution by June 30th.

Priority Parking Allocations are based on current year giving level as well as priority point total. DONORS MUST REQUEST THEIR PREFERRED PARKING LOCATION BY JUNE 30TH. A best available parking permit and/or last year’s parking allocation will be assigned if there is no request. FOR PRICE AND LOCATION BREAKDOWN, PLEASE CONTACT THE COWBOY JOE CLUB OFFICES. THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES AS TO LOCATION, AND ALL LOTS ARE ASSIGNED DEPENDING ON AVAILABILITY AND PRIORITY POINT STATUS.

AA and D parking allocations will receive an assigned parking place for the entire 2018 football season and 2018-2019 men’s and women’s basketball seasons.

AA, D, Ford Stadium Preferred and Tailgate Alley lots are considered “premium lots” and will be designated for CASH CONTRIBUTIONS ONLY. GIK donors may qualify for IPF, Ford Stadium, Summit View, H, X, VA and Brown Lots.

Tailgate Alley parking requests are made directly through the Cowboy Joe Club. Request must be made by June 30th and priority will be given (1) based on previous years’ allocation and (2) priority points. FOR PRICE AND LOCATION BREAKDOWN, PLEASE REFER TO PAGE 9.

RV Parking is available by request and will be allocated based on current year giving level, availability, as well as priority point total in the Ford Stadium Lot, IPF Lot or Summit View Lot. RV parking in these lots requires a RV permit and requires the minimum donation to be met. Motorhomes, fifth wheels and trailer along with the vehicle must be confined to the designated space. Additional RV Parking is available in the North Lot (Brown RV). Any pass holding member can access the North Lot (Brown RV). If more than one space is required due to the size of your RV, it will be mandatory to hold more than one pass.

Additional passes can be obtained through a second CJC membership or a giving level of $3,000 or more in the current year. RV pass holders will receive a parking pass which much remain in their vehicle and be present and visible at all times.

Tailgating is not only allowed, but encouraged, in all Cowboy Joe Club permitted lots. Open Container lots for 2018 include the AA, Ford Stadium, FA, H, IPF, X, Summit View, Cowboy Field, and North Lot (Brown RV). The open container policy runs up to kickoff. Parking is available as early as 5:00 PM the day before home football games and can be coordinated by contacting the Cowboy Joe Club office at 307-766-6242.

Parking Requirements shown are the minimum contributions necessary to be considered for any given lot and still does not guarantee that you will receive a permit for that location. Due to the variation in availability and the number of requests received, your priority point total plays a critical role in the final allocation of permits.

Priority in the Ford Stadium and Summit View lots will be given to season ticket holders who meet the minimum donation requirement as long as both the donation and lot request are received in the Cowboy Joe Club office prior to June 30th. Priority point total will decide the allocation of any remaining inventory.

Maintaining the high standards of integrity with which all UW Athletics programs operate is of the utmost importance; therefore, please ask the Athletics Compliance staff if you have any questions concerning interactions with our student-athletes and/or our sport programs.

W H AT I S “ E X T R A B E N E F I T ” A N D W H Y D O I N E E D T O K N O W T H I S T E R M ?An extra benefit is anything that is provided to a student-athlete, their family or friends by an institutional staff member or a booster that is not available to the general student body or general public under the same terms. Providing UW student-athletes, their families or friends with anything considered an extra benefit jeopardizes their eligibility to represent UW in competition.

RECENT NCAA VIOLATIONS INVOLVING BOOSTERSA NCAA Member institution is alleged to have provided the stepfather of a student-athlete with $800 and 12 nights of lodging

valued at $2,500. Additionally, that same student-athlete allegedly received loaner vehicles and a $3,000 loan. Had this student-athlete not decided to forgo his last remaining year of eligibility in order to enter the NFL Draft, he very likely would have been ruled permanently ineligible based on the seriousness of the violations.

At another institution, a booster impermissibly provided nearly $3,500 in extra benefits to a football student-athlete, including an impermissible loan, free use of an automobile, meals and other extra benefits. This violation contributed to the institution’s first ever Level I infractions case in their time as a NCAA member institution.

C O N TA C T: Peter Prigge, Assistant AD for Compliance, 307-766-3795

Goals: To reward longtime supporters of Wyoming Athletics while allowing new donors and season ticket holders to acquire appropriate benefits in recognition of their support of student-athletes.

Formula: Benefits are allocated in a fair, equitable and consistent manner using the Athletic Department’s Poke Priority Point System. The formula for earning priority points is based off of four simply definable annual commitments, as well as six additional one-time allocations.

A N N U A L P O I N T S E A R N E DLifetime Giving: 1 point for every $100 contributed to Wyoming Athletics (all gifts, including title sponsorship commitments for the Cowboy Joe Golf Series, title sponsorship commitments for the Annual Auction, Wildcatter Stadium Club & Suite Payments, endowment gifts, and capital campaign contributions).

Season Tickets: 1 point for each season ticket consecutively purchased within football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball.

Cowboy Joe Club Membership: 3 points for every consecutive year as a minimum $100 member.

Online Join/Renewal: 5 points for joining or renewing annual membership online.

Volunteer Fundraising: 10 points for the first recruited new member solicited and paid and 5 bonus priority points for each new recruited member solicited and paid there after.

Bottom Line to increase your number of priority points and subsequent ranking:

Increase your annual Cowboy Joe Club donation or help recruit as many new members as possible (10 points for first, 5 points for each additional).

Purchase season tickets for football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball (1 point per ticket).

NOTE: Based on availability, away game tickets may be allocated based on priority points.

Ranking: The member rank shown illustrates the rankings of Cowboy Joe Club members by priority points for 2018. After calculating priority points all donors and season ticket holders are ranked according to their number of points. Any customer making a ticket or parking request has their request evaluated in priority point order.

Did you know that you can make an impact on Wyoming Athletics for generations to come? If you are looking to leave a lasting legacy for the University of Wyoming, planned giving can help you achieve the goal of becoming a Forever Cowboy & Cowgirl.

Through hard work and passion, the 2007 Cowgirl basketball team lived the dream.

They had finished second in the Mountain West Conference, earning an invitation to the WNIT. For the magical three-week tournament run, the Cowgirls played six straight home games in front of record-breaking crowds. In the championship game, 15,462 fans cheered them on to victory over Big Ten power Wisconsin. The Cowgirls ended the season with a record of 27-9, the best in school history.

Roy Miller was there. He’d just moved to Wyoming from California. He came over from Cheyenne for the triple-overtime semifinal against Kansas State and promptly fell in love with Wyoming sports, especially the women’s teams. He came to the thrilling championship game—and then to every Cowgirl basketball game both at home and on the road for the next five years.

Since then, he’s had to taper off a bit. He attends home women’s and men’s basketball, volleyball, soccer, and football games and some wrestling matches.

Roy supports Wyoming Athletics not only with his time, he has written a check to the Cowboy Joe Club almost every month since January of 2008. He also established the Roy C. Miller Women’s Athletic Excellence Fund, which fosters excellence and provides financial support for women’s athletic programs. In addition, he provided matching funds when the Nordic Ski Team need help to make it to the World University Games. He also established a private ROTC Scholarship. He has even remembered Wyoming Athletics in another very thoughtful and impactful way—in his estate plans.

Roy grew up in Vallejo, California. He played football in high school and again in junior college on a rambler team. As he explains it, members of rambler teams were not quite varsity or were varsity but didn’t get much playing time. Ramblers were a traveling team, and at that time they were manned mostly by ex-GIs. “I’d go out there and get my head beat in,” Roy says. “It was fun. I had fun doing that.”

“Senior year, we were undefeated,” he adds with grin.

Between high school and college, Roy served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After junior college, he spent 33 years in the Army and then worked at the California Army National Guard. After retirement, he became a Volunteer in Public Schools in Lakewood High School. He videotaped football games, which lead to him scouting for the team.

He got off work early one day to go to the playoff games for the high school football team. He decided to attend the previous game, the winner of which would play his team. He took good notes, and then the next day, he asked the coach, “You got a minute? I’ve got some things I’d like to go over with you.” The team went on to score a win.

“I got my foot in the door,” Roy says. “From then on, if I wanted to go to a game at a different school, I could go on the team bus. I had team bus privileges.” He got to know all the coaches and then the players’ parents. They even invited him over for supper. “That made it worthwhile,” he says. “I’ve made a lot of good friends along the way.”

Roy is an ideal fan, and it’s dedication like Roy’s that wins games and takes championships. Go Pokes!
