Keep the Legends Alive!

2019 Entertainers: Master of Ceremonies Clem Albertoni, South County’s poet laureate and funny man.

Poet Gary Robertson has been writing for as long as he can remember.  He started publishing and performing his poetry in the early ‘90s.  Prior to that, he told his poems around tailgates, in branding pens, in tack rooms, cafes and bars to anyone that couldn’t out run him. In addition to his new book, Gary has three CDs of his work, and he has been published in several national publications (including Cowboy Poetry: The Reunion edited by Virginia Bennett) and he has been an Honored Guest at CowboyPoetry.com.  Gary’s unique and poignant storytelling ability has made him a popular performer at gatherings throughout the west. Gary is from a family that has been in Oklahoma

since Indian Territory days.  His mother’s people are Chickasaw, and were “removed” to Indian Territory on the Trail of Tears.  His father’s folks moved to Retrop, I.T. from Bell County, Texas.  With Indians on one side, and Texans on the other, Gary comes from a long line of storytellers. Gary and Marianne have recently retired to their own ranch in Byars Ok.

Gary Allegretto is an award-winning cowboy singer/songwriter/musician whose rare abilities on the harmonica are virtually one-of-a-kind. American Cowboy Magazine calls his performances... “Amazing. You’ve never seen or heard anything like it.” Gary’s jaw-dropping musicianship and unique songwriting has earned him an Academy of Western Artists (AWA) Will Rogers Award and a Best of the West Award. His most recent recording “Blues on the Trail” has been nominated for 8 AWA Awards including Best Western Artist, Best Western Recording, Best Western Song (6 songs) and nominated by the International Western Music Association finalist for their Traditional Western Album of the Year Award.

Ed Montana is no stranger to the Western lifestyle and events as he grew up touring the country playing cowboy music at PRCA rodeos, state fairs and other events. He made his debut appearance at the California Rodeo Salinas in 1980 and 2018 marks his 40th consecutive year of performing at the Rodeo. He wrote “Saddle Up Salinas,” the official song of the California Rodeo. Montana lives in Texas with his wife, Verlyn, a former Salinas resident and “Born Again Texan.”

Steve Bernal is Monterey County's 31st elected Sheriff. He grew up with a love of flying and music. He taught himself how to play guitar at age 17. He has always had an appreciation for songwriters and over the years he has filled notebooks full of lyrics he has written. He entertains trail riders at the Parkfield Café that travel from all over the world to trail ride on the V6 Ranch. Steve spends as much time as he can writing and building his song catalog. In 2009 he released a self produced CD titled “Out Of My Shell". After winning two Sheriff elections, Steve is finally starting to find more time to get back to writing and building his catalog of music.

Howdy Friends!

Cowboys, Cocktails, Rhythm & Rhymes event will be held at The Fox Theater. Dinner is included with your sponsorship and as always we will have a silent auction offering a wide variety of treasures to bid on and a live dessert auction during intermission. Our success is directly attributable to the generosity of our sponsors in bringing this show to the public and we thank them profusely.

As you know this entertainment forum began around the campfires and in the bunkhouses of the Old West and we are proud to keep this great American tradition alive. We are pleased to bring great American Music and Storytelling to this year’s event as well as the winners of our kid’s poetry contest as a portion of our proceeds go to the Foundation for Monterey County Free Libraries.
