David M. Cox Elementary School – Achieving Excellence

Cub Cheers: Congratulations to Mrs. Niewinski’s class for doing Friday Announcements and sounding awesome on the intercom! Congratulations to the following students for receiving Cox Cub of the Week: Jace Pingul, Lalie Benjamin, Giselle Jordan-Osemwengie, Remi Henrie, Logan Stocco, Zaire Macklin, Tessa Barfield, Jayden Aleman, Henry Aase. Finally, congratulations to Mrs. Segal for receiving the Cox Teacher of the Week.

Democratic Caucus at DMC: We will be a hosting sight for the upcoming Democratic Caucus on Saturday, February 20th, from 11:00 am-3:00 pm with registration taking place in the MP Room.

Eagle Scout Project: On February 20th the Eagle Scouts will be painting our classroom line-up dots! We are very grateful to the Lewis family for choosing our school for their Eagle Scout project, as you know, we need new classroom line-up dots!

Thanks for Joining Us: Thank you to all the families and students who were able to join us last Friday for Parents & Pastries! It was a huge event with over 150 in attendance! What a fun way to start off our Friday! Our next parent event will be during Nevada Reading Week (February 29-March4) and it will be “Books & Bagels” in which students bring their favorite book to share along with their parents (or grandparents) and join us for bagels! We will be giving away $5.00 gift cards to the Book Fair along with some posters from the Book Fair.

Way to Go Fourth Graders: Our school did it again!

We took first place (Mrs. Stackel’s class) and second place (Mrs. Pisano’s class) in the region SumDog Math Contest (elementary and middle schools participated)! Our student, Joshua Nuestro finished 8th overall in the contest! Great job students! We are so proud!

Testing Update: Our Kindergarteners through Second Graders just finished the Acuity benchmark exams. Yippie! Currently, designated students with second languages are being tested by the state test WIDA which will continue through next week. Finally, the English Language Arts and Math Interim exams are here and ready! These are the tests to prepare students for the state SBAC tests and provide teachers with test data on mastered content standards to date. Only students in grades 3-5 take the Interim exams just as only grades 3-5 take the SBAC exams. The Interims are the tests which replaced Discovery which we had previously in CCSD.

CCSD Pest Control Notice: Friday, 2/19, CCSD will be treating our grounds for weeds and stickers. Questions regarding this can be answered at 702-799-5265.

-over for more-

Upcoming Events: Next Tuesday, the 23rd is our monthly Bookworm Breakfast. The previous newsletter had the 16th listed, but our Bookworm Breakfast is always the fourth Tuesday of each month. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused. Next Friday, the 26th is our monthly Cox Dinner Night – we love Dairy Queen so much, they’re hosting us again!
