Area:Beaverhead County contains approximately 5,572 square

miles and is the largest county by geographic area in

Montana, yet the population is around 9,000 people. The

region is comprised of highly-productive irrigated and

dryland farms, sprawling cattle ranches, timbered foothill

and bench terrain, expanses of prairie and rangeland and

high-alpine mountainous areas. The mountains and plains

are home to a compelling diversity of wildlife. The region

offers premier recreational opportunities, rich history of

exploration, gold mining and ranching, and the relaxed

rural lifestyle. Beaverhead County also has the distinction

of being one of the largest cattle and hay producing areas

of Montana.

Dillon serves as county seat and provides most shopping

and services, restaurants, medical facilities, fly fishing shops

Location:The Coyote Creek Ranch is located west of Grant, Montana, at the western edge of the Horse Prairie Valley in Beaverhead

County. The largest town in the area is Dillon, approximately 38 miles northeast of the ranch. Access is via Interstate-15

south from Dillon, west on to State Highway 324, followed by a gravel and dirt road to the ranch. The closest airports

offering regular commercial service are in Butte, Montana, and Idaho Falls, Idaho, both nearly 2 hours away.


Ranging from 6,600 to 7,000 feet elevation, the Coyote

Creek Ranch encompasses approximately 2,804 deeded

acres and 160 acres of State of Montana lease ground.

Montana’s trout streams are legendary, in quantity,

quality and scale. The state arguably contains more

premier water than could be fished in a lifetime. Seven

rivers in Montana have the distinction of “blue ribbon”

status, simply the best of the best. Two of these rivers, the

Beaverhead and the Big Hole, are within a 1-hour drive

of the property. In addition, the Madison River is within

an hour and a half drive. Other notable fisheries in the

nearby vicinity include the Red Rock River, Ruby River,

Jefferson River and Clark Canyon Reservoir.

Several mountain streams and its main tributary, the Red

Rock River, feed Clark Canyon, located 20 miles from

the ranch. The reservoir is recognized by knowledgeable

fly fishermen as one of the best stillwater fisheries in

Montana, where rainbow and brown trout exceeding

10 pounds are not uncommon. The Beaverhead River,

which flows out of Clark Canyon, is world-renowned as

one of Montana’s finest big-fish trout streams. Tailwater

and spring creek conditions, regular hatches and huge,

selective trout characterize the upper stretches of the

river. Closer to Dillon, Montana, the river offers deeper

pools and runs, undercut banks and riffle areas, where

the fish are more apt to chase gaudy streamers and big

stonefly nymphs.

There are numerous small stream fisheries and mountain

lakes within close proximity of the Coyote Creek Ranch

where one can chase cutthroat and brown trout, as well

as viable populations of Montana grayling. The creeks in

the area receive relatively little fishing pressure, are easy

to wade and are full of fish that will enthusiastically take

a variety of fly patterns.

Recreation: Montana offers an overwhelming bounty of natural resources, blessed with millions of acres of snowcapped peaks and

pristine forests, river riparian ecosystems cradling some of the finest trout streams on the planet, vast expanses of prairie

and plains, and a wildlife community that in terms of density and variety, most likely exceeds any other region in the

continental United States. Whether the pursuit is fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, skiing, or any number of other similar

activities, the possibilities are limited only by the imagination, and people flock to Big Sky Country each year to experience

outdoor pursuits amidst the most magnificent scenery found anywhere in the world.

Hunting:Some of Montana’s best hunting opportunities are found in southwestern Montana. The mountains and plains comprising

the region harbor all the recognized big game species in Montana, including elk, whitetail and mule deer, antelope, black and

grizzly bear, mountain lion, moose, Bighorn sheep and Rocky Mountain goats. Waterfowl and upland wingshooting is also

superb in this area with the possibility of decoying ducks and geese in the morning, and then hunting for Hungarian partridge

and grouse in the afternoon.

The Coyote Creek Ranch is located in Hunting District 329 and

offers excellent opportunities for mule and whitetail deer, elk,

moose and antelope. The best whitetail hunting is early in the

season, and the larger mule deer bucks show up on the property

as the rut commences in November. Elk and antelope can be

seen at any time during the season. Both moose and antelope

tags are only available through a special draw process. Blue

grouse are also found on the ranch.

The Lower Beaverhead Valley, north of Dillon is one of the finest waterfowl areas in America, and pheasant, Hungarian

partridge and sage grouse are found with regularity in this area. In addition to the hunting on the ranch, the bordering

Beaverhead National Forest and Bureau of Land Management offer thousands of additional acres to pursue game.
