Every year, on Labor Day Weekend, the countries best endurance mountain bike rac- ers drop in on some of the best trials Park City has to offer. Park City, Utah has over 300 miles of trail; it’s ripping fast and incredibly diverse. Wheth- er you’re someone who rides the trails regularly or an out-of- towner, this race is guaranteed to please. The course is a true point 2 point event. Thanks to the plethora of trails in this area, the race will never be on the same trail twice. You’ll will be riding single-track trail for over 90% of the race, and that is a boatload of single-track! The total distance is 78 miles and you will gain 14,000′ over the course of the race, all while traveling through three of the country’s premier mountain resorts. It will challenge your mental prowess, yet it will have you grinning from ear to ear at times. So what are you waiting for, make plans today…and do what you’re afraid to! Did I mention the three world- class mountain resorts we ride through, without these organi- zations, there would far fewer trails in Park City! This year we have Coyote Blaize Baeherns attempting this course for the first time. Hav- ing changed focus from triath- lon, Blaize has been steadily building his endurance in a sport he has come to love and has gotten quite good at. Best of luck to Blaize, remember to stay hydrated and give the Utah fan base a big Ahuu as you role through the most beautiful sin- gle track the sport has to offer. Happy Mexican Independence

Day to all

of our

coyotes

Viva

Mexico,

Arrrri-

baaaaa!!!

Please Welcome this months

Our total number of coyotes is

now 25 with the potential to

keep growing.

September has 5 coyotes cele-

brating their birthday on our

coyote birthday tracker .

Daniel Galvin — Sept. 11th

Tom Mertz — Sept. 13th

DJ Bolser — Sept. 13th

Timothy Wilson—Sept. 25th

Alfredo Zepeda — Sept. 30th

Happy Birthday to all, remem-

ber to celebrate in style and be

convinces you to try something new on

race day because how fast you will be

using their product. Remember nothing

new on race day!

3. You still get lost in T1 or T2.

4. You no longer bring everything you

can possibly carry into transition before

the race - including (and especially)

balloons!

5. You purchase your running shoes

based solely on color and if they match

your racing top.

6. You have more gunk on your bike

chain than on your post-dinner pans.

7. You can recall the date, name of the

race, and your exact time for PRs at all

distances.

Are you a Newbie?

We all start out in triathlon as a newbie.

A newbie is defined as a first-time or

newer participant of triathlon, and one

of our first goals is to lose the dreaded

“Newbie” title. So, we set to train as

much as necessary and race enough

seasons to have our triathlon business

cards list us as an “old timer” triathlete.

But, no matter how many races you

done, podiums you’ve been on, or

seasons you have trained through, you

are still a newbie if one of the following

is true for you:

1. You still rely on someone else to

remove your back wheel to change a

flat.

2. The (usually good-looking) expo rep

8. You haven’t stopped during a bad

training day on the bike to have a beer.

9. You can’t name one of the items in

your flat changing kit.

10. You have never gone to a packet

pickup without wearing at least piece of

clothing from a past race.

So many of us may now realize that we

have a ways to go before we lose the

newbie title. But now having written

this article, I think back and remember

that a newbie is always excited, always

smiling, and enjoying their experience.

They race for the love of triathlon and

the need to just do their best. So maybe

we should all consider keeping our new-

bie title for one more season.

new design will be available to

the team to place orders so that

we can finalize the quantity and

we will need to have your full

the orders, no uniforms will be

aged to continue to gain places

on her competitors. Neily who

also is part of team Giddy Up,

than legendary Michelle Jones,

displayed her trendy uniform

throughout the contest and was

by far the best looking athlete

out there. Once Neily reached

T2 all questions where how

ready would her legs be to de-

liver the final punch needed to

maintain her lead and hop on

the podium. Neily suffered a bit

on the run, yet managed to dig

deep and continue to build on

the endurance she had, not let-

ting the mental game take over

and controlling the pain as she

had done the previous weekend

at ironman. Neily finished with

a total time of 1:32:47 and man-

aged to grab the last spot of the

podium. All that can be said is

that this was an amazing perfor-

mance and a very gutsy one as

well. Neily was also using this

race as a pre race tune up of her

The Camp Pendleton Sprint

gust 4, 2012 and this year we

had one of our coyotes Neily

Mathias participating in this fun

event. Neily just four weeks

removed from finishing 9th in

her age group at the Ironman

Coeur d’Alene, decided to put

the metal to the pedal on this

sprint race and switch gears

from the endurance race she

had been training all season

long and all of a sudden fire up

all cylinders and go out on an

all out sprint. Neily seemed to

have no problems in her recov-

ery from Ironman as she se-

cured a podium finish at this

race with a 3rd place finish in

her very competitive age group.

Neily, an overall balanced ath-

lete took it out strong in the

swim, knowing that even an all

out sprint at this distance

would not get the best out of

her and managed to position

her self in the top of the age

group right off the bat. Using a

very dominating and steady

bike ride, Neily continued to

chine is so tuned up that there

is no rest needed from finishing

top 10 in an ironman or top 3

in a sprint triathlon. Congratu-

lations to Neily for assembling

a series of amazing results in

2012 and for having an excel-

lent season so far. Neily has

added a new fun perspective to

the club and has encouraged

participation of our female coy-

otes in more events, creating a

momentum shift in the number

of members who participate in

our group training events and

the number of overall ladies

that are representing the coy-

otes out there in races nation

wide. Thank you for being part

of the club, representing and

having fun while giving the

crowds a big Ahuuuuuu giddy

up baby!!!!!. Congratulations to

Coach Michelle Jones as well

for managing to create a fine

tune racing machine out of this

fun loving person. Big Ahuuuu

to Neily for inspiring all of us

and teaching us it can be done.

minutes. JC remained calm and

remembered that this is a long

long day and anything can hap-

pen, so he continue with his

game plan, and was feeling

amazing through out the bike

ride. Once they hit T2, he did a

very quick transition and started

the run probably a bit faster

than he should have, and by

mile 9 the fast pace caught up

to him and reduced JC to a

walk. From Miles 9 to 17 JC

walked and ran, and kept loos-

ing hope that he would break

the 11:00 hrs, but after a second

wind hit him, he partnered up

with another competitor and

slowly started picking up the

pace again, and went from 11

minute miles, to 10, 9 8 and

eventually finishing the mara-

thon with his fastest mile of the

day with a 7:17 minute mile.

JC’s finishing time of 10:25:49

was good enough to put him at

29 in his age group at the end

of the day and make his fifth

of this race was highlighted by

the news that in 2013 it will be

part of the Challenge Family,

which the Constandse’s will

fully support and continue to

come to the city of Penticton

for more amazing racing. JC

had a very solid swim with a

time of 1:02:02 and exited the

water in 22 place in his divi-

sion, only 1 minute behind his

personal best at this venue, he

was in good spirits and with an

appetite to ride. Knowing that

he had bonked on the bike at

Ironman Coeur d’Alene JC

took it conservatively on the

first 46 miles of the ride until

they hit Rigter pass, and then

he started crancking up the

pace and picking up age group-

ers at a time, the problem of

this strategy was that the road

ahead was congested and it

resulted in an unfair drafting

penalty that cost him 4
