    AMIMAL MAGIC GOES BACK TOSCHOOL

    .

Weve gone back to school at Animal Magic Dog Club and have lots of

fun planned to keep us warm over the winter term. From puppy classesto Kennel Club Obedience, Agility and Flyball, theres lots on oer toensure we have a community of well trained dogs and owners! At ourclub we take the social responsibility of dog ownership very seriously,as well as looking after the pooches we also do our bit to look after the

planet by oering bio-degradable poo bags for sale in the club shop. This term weve been joined by Liz King, Crabtales editor and ownerof the beautiful Sasha. Liz oered Sasha a home when she becameunwanted, her previous owners had another child on the way and weremoving home and there was no room for this lovely dog. At aroundeighteen months old Sasha is still a baby herself but its suspectedshes had litter of puppies already. Liz and Sasha have enrolled in theJunior and Adult Dog Foundation class which is aimed at going backto basics, ideal for dogs that have been rescued or had little trainingin their younger years. It provides a safe and controlled environmentwhere dogs and owners can learn, socialise and build a lasting bond.Well bring you more news of their progress in the coming weeks..For more information about classes available, please contact Kathy [email protected] or call 01263 720730

    Dear Editor,

    Subject: Felbrigg Junction

NO NO NO 552K is an enormous amountof money in this day and age . We would all

be better served by having a mini-roundabout(like the ones at Roughton and the oneoutside Halsey House in Cromer). A mini -roundabout will change the priorities for alldirections and make it easier for the manyHGVs driving towards Roughton. The workcould be carried out very quickly and more tothe point we would be getting value for money.

    Dear Editor

As much as l enjoy reading through the CrabTales, there is one thing that always annoysme and that is the front cover. There is fartoo much info and in my opinion distractionthere with numerous adverts cluttering the

page. Would it not be a far more interestingand possibly attract more people to pick it upif the cover page had just one large photo, asone sees on glossy mags. In the Jan to Febissue l counted no less than 9 various advertsthat could easily be inserted on other pages.

We have tons of attractive views that could beused from the area you cover in Crab Tales?Something to consider maybe!

    D.Marston

REPLY FROM THE ED.I take onboard all your comments andunderstand your point of view. Crabtales is afree paper which devotes much of its space to

promoting local societies, events and charities.Sadly it is not free to print so we try to balanceour content and adverts.Maybe we can include a wildlife/landscape

photo section which will please you.

Academy students support About With Friends

Students from Cromer Academy visited About With Friends recently to present a second cheque to the charity and receive a tour of the organisationsfacilities. The student council comprises of two students from each year group who meet fortnightly. One of the key achievements of the council isthe fundraising they do for local charities. Each year they raise money for lots of dierent charitiesthrough a series of events. About with Friends

and Cromer RNLI benetted from a range of activitiesduring RAG week in April 2015. These included a talentshow, cake sales and a Sponge The Teacher stall. Then inSeptember a sponsored walk raised even more moneyfor the two charities. In all About With Friends received800 from the Academy in 2015.

After presenting the second cheque in December thecouncil were invited to visit About With Friends and

joined Workskills members, sta and volunteers atthe morning meeting where notices are read out andwork for the day assigned. One student said it was a

bit dierent from school assemblies. Adults on the

Workskills programme all have a learning disability butthey come to About With Friends to do real work. Students were shown the workshop where good such as candles are produced for sale althoughmuch attention was devoted to the commission of 100 Beach Huts for the Cromer and Sheringham Crab and Lobster Festival.

They then visited the Base on Holt Road where they saw the caterers state of the art commercial kitchen but they barely had time to chat to thecaterers as they were on their way to run a Lunch Club for the Over 55s at North Walsham. Next door other members were greeting guests otheradults with learning disabilities from local residential homes to the Wednesday Social Club where games, refreshments and bingo are all laid on myWorkskills members.

Finally they visited the AWF Community Caf in Tucker Street where they were treated to hot chocolate and cakes made by members. After the tourthe students said they were very pleased they had chosen About With Friends as their charity.

This is not the only link between the two organisations as students sometimes carry our work experience at the charity. AWF are also providingrefreshments at the Academys production of Bugsy Malone on 8-10th March. Tickets for this are available from the school o ce on 01263 511433For further information please contact Steve Smith 01263 515230

About With Friends is a fun, active and energetic charity based in Cromer. We oer children, young people and adults with learning disabilitiesthe ves they choose. When they become part of our family they have opportunities to develop lasting friendships; engage in fun and active socialactivities; get involved in the community; have the chance to try new experiences; learn new skills both for life and work; but above all feel a valued

part of society while enjoying life to the full.

    Mundesley Mumblings

Lemon and SugarIts February, and its that in the middle not quite sure month. Too farfrom Christmas and thankfully a payday after January so things dontseem quite as bad. Too early for Easter but just every now and thenit seems to be a little lighter for just that little bit longer. Walking the

beach these rst few days has been magical with some cracking hoursof sunshine. The clis have broken o the wind to make even theweakest February sunshine seem just magical. I met a lovely couple theother day who were just sat on the sand in the sun watching the waves. They were disturbed from the reverie by my curious dog who cannotresist saying hello. It transpired that they were just visiting and couldnot resist just taking a moment to sit and stare at the waves. It mademe think when was the last time I literally just sat and did absolutelynothing? Honestly, I could not remember. Note to self, be moreMindful. NB to Note to Self, better book it in the diary as it will neverhappen otherwise!

So how many us had our hearts broken or lled with love this ValentinesDay? As my dear and darling husband always manages to rememberthis date, (mainly due to the wonderful invention of calendar reminderson his phone) I remember my best friends wise counsel that its allabout the words and not overblown showy protestations. Mind you, asany women will tell you every now and then showy and overblown willsurely rack up brownie points for use at a later date so go ahead andsurprise us every now and then go on, we wont tell, honest! Most importantly we begin the cycle of a whole new set of celebrationsand notable dates for the year. I know talking to colleagues at workthe consensus was that our friends in Europe fared much better than uswith estas and fests at every opportunity, but when we started countingup what we do here in good ol Blighty we too have pretty much anexcuse each month to reect, celebrate and bring together friends andfamily. This month we had Shrove Tuesday, Valentines; the MundesleyPanto (not to be missed!) then its the rst half term for the schools too.

Whether you have a faith or not; regardless if your family is large orsmall, if it consists of generations of relations or a just a good friend tospend time with, just do it. So maybe February is the month to be moreMindful, to take 10 minutes and just stop. As always my son is the onewho seems to be able to sum it all up. As I struggled to get the pancakesright last year, when they were either under or over cooked, or stuck (ofcourse they were meant to be like that- not!) he said just put more lemonand sugar on then you cant tell! So Im o down the beach to watchthe waves and put more lemon and sugar in my life, if only for just forone brief moment

Mundesley Mumblings are the ramblings and personal opinions of TWebster, passionate about all things North Norfolk and mostly justMundesley!

History brought to life in theNelson Room

Pupils from North Walsham Junior School visited the Nelson Room atPaston Sixth Form College. All of the pupils experienced some realhands on history when studying Nelson. Pupils spent time studyingletters, paintings and a range of artifacts linked to Nelson. Theirenthusiasm for the exercise was encouraged by the chance to win aPaston Bear. The three winners Teejay Baylis, Josie Fryer and HarveyHaysman, all collected the most information from the investigation of all

the items in the historic Nelson Room.

Kevin Grieve, Principal at Paston, said the pupils had a wonderfulafternoon examining the historical documents associated with Nelson. Itwas brilliant to see their enthusiasm to learn and gain knowledge about

Nelson. They produced some outstanding work and are a credit to theirschool.

To commemorate the 400 year anniversaryof the death of William Shakespeare in 1616,Pastons very own Far East Theatre Companytook on the challenge of performing twoShakespeare Plays. The two plays performedin the new Theatre were: The Comedy ofErrors and A Midsummer Nights Dream, with the opening night of the The Comedy ofErrors taking place on Tuesday 2 February at7.30pm.

Paston were excited to announce that the FarEast Theatre Company had a guest appearanceperforming in The Comedy of Errors. For therst time Cecil, a Dachshund Sausage Dog,was taking centre stage as the assistant role tothe lead. Cecil appeared 3 times in the play, once looking adorable in a hand bag and twice

    being carried on.

Cecils owner, Jess Chamberlin, a recentgraduate of Performing Arts said that she wasdelighted that Cecil was staring in the play. Iam extremely proud of Cecils achievements. She melts so many hearts and takes upeveryones attention during rehearsals.

Cecil seems to be enjoying all the attention andit quite possible that Jess Chamberlin will soonhave to become her agent. There is even talkabout Cecil becoming the Paston mascot, so itis possible that students will start to see moreof Cecil around the College.

    MINDFULLNESS.

    MENTAL-HEALTH ISNT MADNESS

As a Person-Centred Psychotherapist I work with the holistic person. Let me explain, from my perspective there are ve aspects that shape the human condition:Mind (our thought processes)Body (our physical self)Spirit (our beliefs, ethics, values & principles)Emotions (our felt self)Sociological (world around us)Each works in relation to the other, in other words they are interconnected shaping the

person we are. For this article I want to focus on the rst two our mind and body.Last week, in the guardian newspaper, they were discussing the growing evidence ofthe impact of our mental health onphysicalwellbeing, although generally these have beenseen as two separate issues they are in fact related. Further, physical health has generally

been considered the starting point for greater mental health. However I challenge this theory and through personal as well as professional experiencehave seen the opposite to be true. I have found that on many occasions physicalsymptoms reect mental health issues, for example, excessive weight gain due to pasttrauma leading to low self-worth or poor self-esteem.There is also a growing body of evidence linking long term stress or poorly managed

stress to a lowering of our immune system. Further as a former Director of a Cancerservices based charity I have seen research linking poorer recovery rates for individualswith serious mental health issues also being treated for various cancers regardless atwhat stage they are diagnosed. On a personal level I experienced acute IBS (Irritable BowelSyndrome) on an almostdaily basis throughout my teenage years and most of my adult life. I went through manyof the medical treatments from pills, diet, cameras down my throat etc. with no success.Only to be told there was no cure and I would have to manage my symptoms. However after accessing personal therapy as part of my training as a psychotherapistand later as a personal choice I eventually not only reduced my symptoms but have nothad a single bout in many years. It could be argued that my training enabled me to overcome my health issues when infact it was through my personal therapy, identifying past trauma and di cult times inmy life that I was able to identify triggers, understand and reshape my psychological andemotional processes. Its also important to recognise that trauma can be shaped by many things not just one

powerful moment such as abuse, bullying, unresolved grief due to loss or a childhoodexperience, it maybe poorly managed stress, unresolved anger, an unhappy workenvironment, the list is endless, for each person it is unique one size does not t all.So our mental health really does matter, listen to what your body is telling you how areyour stress levels?Do you catch every cough and cold even though you eat healthily andexercise regularly? Are you really striking the right balance between mind and body?Seeing a Psychotherapist is like seeing a dietician about your nutritonal needs, or adoctor about a physical symptom you dont understand, taking care of your mentalhealth needs is imperative to a well-balanced and happy life.If you have any questions about this article or general enquires please email me oralternatively visit my website, I will also be running some workshops locally so drop meyour contact details and I will keep you informed.Email: [email protected]
