33RACKLIN’ STATIC SNARS -- W7TA
Serving the Amateur Radio Community for over 40 Years
Tune VE Exams in Stagecoach Nevada
Regularly scheduled testing sessions for Amateur Radio licenses are now available in
Chairman’s Voice:
There will be a big swap meet held on May 4
th at the Sandy’s Electronics
parking lot. This is in lieu of the swap that is held at the EMCOMM, which as
you know has been canceled for this year.
Due to the swap meeting being the same day as our regular May meeting,
the Board of Directors voted to cancel the May meeting so that members can get
to the swap early.
Go to the swap web site at www.RenoHamSwap.com for all the info on
when, how, where, etc. There will also be a fun BBQ at the swap meet with a
Ham Cram, and VE testing also.
There has been a working group consisting of Board members from both
clubs and other interested members looking at the club consolidation issue.
A review and draft of a set of by-laws that takes into account the by-laws
of both clubs is being developed to see what a new club will look like. This
document, when fully developed will be made available to all members via a
web site that is being created to keep all club members up to date on the things
being done by the group, and to provide a way for members to give their
input.
There will not be a program this month. We were unable to get a
speaker that could make it on our meeting day. So, this is probably a good
time to talk about the club consolidation and get everyone up to speed on what
has been taking place.
The group working on this will be meeting at the REOC on Sunday 3/3 at
0800 to continue looking at the number of items that have to be considered.

THE NEW HAMS & INFORMATION NET
The New Hams Q&A Net on 146.610. The net is held weekly at 1300, every Sunday afternoon.
The purpose of this net is a Q&A and information net for newly licensed hams and all hams
wishing to ask question about different aspects of Ham Radio. It will give new hams in
particular a venue for getting on the air in a controlled net moderated by a ham with more
experience. The net will be open to any interested ham. Questions will be answered and
discussed by the more experienced hams listening on the Net.
For those in the NorthValley- out of the range of the 146.610 try using the 443.075 (+/123). It works well from Lemmon Valley.
IF YOU HAVE AN IDEA FOR A PROGRAM AT ONE OF THE
MEEETINGS, PLEASE LET THE BOARD KNOW ABOUT IT.

Think FIELD DAY
Coming up June 22 & 23. Location to be determined. Look for a bigger and better event this year with SNARS and WADG working together. We will have a club sponsored BBQ, as we did last year. Any suggestions you have to make the event more fun and more productive will be appreciated. If you can assist us in getting it organized and/or help during the event, let a Field Day committee member know.

Amateur 160 Meter Band (1800-2000 kHz) Next, we propose changes for an existing amateur service allocation in what is known as the 160 meter band at 1800-2000 kHz. Specifically, we propose to reallocate the 1900-2000 kHz sub-band (segment) of the 160 meter band to the amateur service on a primary basis. The amateur 160 meter band consists of two segments: the 1800-1900 kHz segment, which is allocated to the amateur service on an exclusive basis, and the 1900-2000 kHz segment, which is allocated to the radiolocation service (RLS) on a primary basis for Federal and non-Federal use and to the amateur service on a secondary basis under the terms of US290.47 We note that ARRL, the national association for Amateur Radio (ARRL), has identified the 160 meter band and the amateur HF bands as “[b]y far, the heaviest-used [amateur service] allocations.” Historically, the 1715-2000 kHz band was allocated exclusively to the amateur service. In 1953, the Commission removed the 1715-1800 kHz segment from the amateur radio service and allocated the 1800-2000 kHz band to the amateur service on a shared basis with the radionavigation service (RNS). In 1983, the Commission allocated the 1800-1900 kHz band to the amateur service on an exclusive basis and the 1900-2000 kHz band to the RLS on a primary basis for Federal and non-Federal use and, pursuant to US290, to the amateur service on a secondary basis. The Commission stated that: “The purpose of allocating this band [1900-2000 kHz] to the radiolocation service was to provide reaccommodation spectrum for radiolocation users that will have to move out of the 1605-1705 kHz band when AM broadcasting is implemented in that band.” >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
