DATES TO REMEMBER:
A monthly calendar will
take the place of this
section.
Students of the Month
Our students work hard to
earn PAWS each month.
When a student receives a
PAW, they have a chance to
become Student of the
Month. Each month, I
choose one student from
each grade level. These
students get their picture on
the Student of the Month
Bulletin Board and a certifi-
cate. They also get to
choose a coupon. These
coupons range from Pizza
with the Principal to First in
Line at Lunch. A special
thanks to all students who
earn the PAWS

1st Annual Cultural Day
6th Grade Visits Parkway West Vocational School
The Crafton Elementary Cultural Day was held
on May 14th. Each grade levels studied a differ-
ent country and shared their learning experiences
with the community. Some classes had videos or
PowerPoints showing what they learned, while
other classes displayed their work throughout the
room and gave a presentation. Some presenta-
tions were also accompanied with yummy foods
and drinks. The students had a lot of fun putting
all of their findings into a huge Saturday celebra-
tion. Great job everyone for helping to start a
tradition.
Spring Ghoral and Band Concerts
Congratulations to the 4th-6th grade chorus and
band members on their spring performances. Mr.
Pederson, Mr. Priore, and Ms. Ferro did an amaz-
ing job preparing the students for the May perfor-
mances!
6th graders participated in a field trip to Parkway West Career and Technology Center as a part of career
education and transition to the high school. The goal is to explore educational options, keep students
connected to their education and blend practical experience with comprehensive guidance curriculum.
The students spent three hours exploring the various career majors Parkway has to offer. The opportuni-
ties are many and varied—auto body repair, automotive technology, cosmetology, culinary arts, digital
multimedia technology, electrical systems technology, health assistance, information technology, mason-
ry, public safety technology, veterinary technology and welding technology. Parkway also presented a
free summer camp experience to students which allows a week long in-depth exploration of two pro-
grams of the student’s choice.
The students came back with a lot of knowledge and excitement. Given the success of this field trip, we
look forward to the continued partnership with Parkway West Vocational School.

Remake Learning in Crafton
Remake Learning is a professional network of educators and innovators working together to shape the
future of teaching and learning in the Greater Pittsburgh Region. Representing more than 250 organiza-
tions, including early learning centers & schools, museums & libraries, afterschool programs & commu-
nity nonprofits, colleges & universities, ed-tech startups & major employers, philanthropies & civic lead-
ers. Remake Learning in a collaborative effort is working to inspire and empower a generation of life-
long learners in Pittsburgh, West Virginia, and beyond.
The members of the Remake Learning Network create future-ready, hands-on, relevant and engaging
education. This year, Remake Learning Week was May 8-14. Crafton Elementary celebrated their day
on Friday, the 13th. Our theme was Nature Rocks: Bringing Students Outside to Remake Learning.

MISSION
Education is certainly worth the commitment of time, money, and effort.
Education is a cooperative effort of parents, students, staff, and
community.
All students are unique individuals with varied interest and abilities.
All students can be successful learners based on their ability.
All students have a right to be educated to the fullest potential.
Individual guidance is critical to maximize each student's potential.
Students should be encouraged to explore their potential.
High expectations directly affect performance.
Every individual has worth and deserves respect and dignity.
A nurturing, safe environment is conducive to learning.
The school district should encourage students to be responsible members
of a global society.
The Carlynton School District,
recognizing the shared responsibility
of the educators, students and families
of this culturally diverse community,
will provide a challenging educational
program for all students within
a safe, nurturing environment,
which will enable them to function as
productive, ethical and responsible
global citizens.
