Excellent report I firmly believe that for children to
achieve their full potential there
needs to be a strong partnership
between home and school. I would
like to take this opportunity to thank
all families for the great ongoing
support you offer to the school and
specifically for the warm messages of
encouragement we received when
we had our recent Ofsted visit.

thank you for your appreciative
comments.
The Ofsted team were incredibly
positive about the children, the
staff and the governors and
commented on the h igh
expectations and constant
determination for continued
improvement at CPA. They were
also very pleased to see the
achievement of our pupils and the
engaging curriculum that we
provide. We are very proud of
the report and we hope you are
to life. All the children devoted
their time and energy into
ensuring they understood the
challenging text and language of
Shakespeare, as a means to
communicate the real meaning
behind the story through singing,
dance and drama.
The children were given the
privilege to perform at The Beck
Theatre where they left the
audience enthralled after their
e loquen t and dyn am ic
performance. We were blown
away with their maturity and
the ability to perform a
culturally renowned play so
successfully!

Year 3 Trip to the
Science Museum
On Friday the 24th of
November, the Year 3
children went to the Science
Museum and had a fantastic
time becoming inquisitive
scientists. The beginning of
our day started with a visit to
Space. We loved looking at
all different kinds of rockets
and even an astronaut’s space
suit. ‘When I visited the
Science Museum on our trip,
I really enjoyed seeing
different rockets and their
histories. I learned that
spacemen need to wear helmets to breathe. ’
Anshdeep Dhingra.
A highlight of the trip
included a fantastic science
show where some of our
children were chosen to be
assistants and help the Mad
scientist. ‘My favourite part
of the Museum was when
we saw the show on
electricity. It inspired me to be a
scientist!’ Meryem Uzun. We learned
so much about how electricity works
and what conductors and insulators are.
Another favourite part was seeing
household items from the past and
learning how they work. Did you know
there used to be things called videos
and you had to rewind them before
watching them? We were shocked by
this! The most exciting part of our trip was
when we explored the Wonderlab. We
were able to experience hands on
learning about different aspect of
Science, including Chemistry, Friction,
Colour, Weather and even Maths. ‘The
Wonderlab was exhaustingly fun-I loved all
the science experiments.’ Nevaeh Rhone-
Wood.
A huge thank you to all of the adults who
helped with this trip. We were all so
impressed with how much the children
learned and how well behaved they were we
can’t wait for the next trip!

Year 4 Trip to the Verulamium
All of Year 4 visited the historic Roman
Verulamium in St. Albans. The children were
fascinated with the artefacts found within the
site and were extremely excited but also
careful as they were allowed to touch old pots
and jewellery from the conquering times of
the Romans.
Also on show was the pristine Hypocaust
where the mosaic flooring had been kept
immaculate for visitors to see. In between
their gift shop visit was a tour of the museum
itself exploring mosaics and discovering games
which the Romans played for entertainment.
The whole of Year 4 were a credit to the
school and a big thanks must go to Mrs Dunn
for all her organisation and hard work in
organising the trip.
Singing Sensations in KS1
A massive well done to the Year One and Year
Two children who took part in the annual
Federation Singing Festival at Lake Farm Academy.
The children sang four different songs along with
the six other federation academies and then sang
their choir solo song, ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ complete
with actions. The children especially enjoyed
showcasing this performance to their parents
during a small concert. They have been working
incredibly hard practising during lunch and choir
club so it was amazing and truly heart-warming to

see such amazing confidence in these very young
children!
A huge thank you to the parents who supported
their children by learning the lyrics and actions with
them – no doubt the words to ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ are
forever embedded into your memory!

Stars and Snowflakes Nursery
Stay and Play The Nursery team want to say a big thank
you to everyone who stayed to make a star
or snowflake with their child. I know that
all the children and staff enjoyed the
session. It was a great success!
“We loved making the star, father and son
enjoying yet another joyful moment”
“ I really enjoyed yesterday. It was a nice way to
work with my child. It felt nice that all the staff were
excited too. I really appreciate all the hard work
the staff have done. Thank you for inviting us”
“I really enjoyed making a star with my child
yesterday. It was really nice, thank you to all the
nursery staff”
Roman Market On Wednesday 6th of December, the
Year 4 corridor went back in time and
turned into a Roman Market. The
children thoroughly enjoyed showing
their parents around and explaining
about the artefacts they had created
including Roman pots, soldiers, a clock,
mosaics, and a menu.
They also made their parents some
Roman food and some were daring
enough to taste an olive and feta cheese!
It was a fantastic way to consolidate
their learning about The Romans. The
Year 4 teachers would like to thank all
the parents who were able to attend the
Roman Market and made it a great
success.

Aztec Day On Monday 27th November 2017 Year 5 invited
parents into school to join them in celebrating
Aztec Day. The day was a great success and
provided some wonderful bonding time for parents
and children within school.
Parents were greeted upon arrival with an
Aztec hot chocolate to start their afternoon
and were then taken to an authentic Aztec
market hall where they could purchase their
children’s creations using coffee beans. The
children spent many weeks immersing
themselves in the ancient culture and created
some magnificent pieces of Aztec artwork.
The children then
went on to sing,
dance and perform for their parents.

Your dedication and

is very admirable.
“Aztec Day was really exciting, because throughout
the term we have learnt so many cool (and gross)
facts about the Aztecs, and it was great to share
this with my parents! My favourite part of the day
was acting in the play because through acting I got
to learn even more!” - Ashwika 5BH

1940’s Day
Children in Year 6 have been
learning about World War Two
and on 24th November they got
the opportunity to step back in
time. Here is Adil in 6LD’s take
on the day:
“It was wonderful to see
everyone in Year 6 dressed up
like someone from the 1940s. In
the morning we made our own evacuee labels and gas mask
boxes. After break the boys had
to do woodwork and we made a
wooden frame using mini saws. While we did this,
the girls did sewing and made purses. The end of
the war was declared and after lunch we had a tea
party and got to show off our dance moves (all of
the Year 6 classes had learnt the Lindy Hop during
indoor PE lessons).
In the afternoon we also got to see each other’s
projects and even show our parents. The best part
of the day for me was the fact that the teachers
acted like we were really in the 1940s.
Mrs O’Donnell pretended to be the headteacher
and when she, or any other adult, came into the
classroom we had to stand up until the adult told us
to sit down. We sat in rows in the classroom and
our teachers didn’t even use the Smartboard!”
Sports Hall Athletics Competition On Wednesday 6th December 18 children travelled
to Barnhill School to compete in the Borough
Sports Hall Athletics competition. 5 schools were in
attendance in compete in a range of different events
such as 1x2 & 2x2 Relay, Speed Bounce, Triple Jump
and Vertical Jump. The team had prepared well for
the event but there were still a few nerves on
show! The boys and girls made a strong start in the
track events with a 2nd and 3rd respectively.
The field events were hotly contested with some
huge throws and jumps being recorded. Once all
of the results had been recorded and points been
handed out Cranford finished 4th on the night.

Lion King Year 5 were delighted to be taken to The Lyceum
Theatre to watch the Lion King on Thursday 7th
December. The
level of detail in the
costumes, make up
and puppetry was
staggering and was a
visual treat for the
children’s eyes. The
children sat and
watched attentively
and were transfixed.
They were thrilled
to see some of their
favorite characters
come to life in front
of their very eyes. The children left
with a greater appreciation for the performing
arts and were extremely grateful for the
opportunity they were given. It was a truly
unforgettable experience that will live on in the
memories of the children for years to come.
We are utterly impressed with the level of
maturity displayed by the children and couldn’t be
prouder of their continuing efforts to strive for
great behavior!
Y5 Team
“I loved our evening theatre experience in London! I
particularly enjoyed the detailing in the costumes and the backdrop on the stage – it was memorising! I’ve
only been to the theatre once before this, so I was
really blown away!” – Navnoor 5BH
“In the theatre I enjoyed the performance and the
creative illusions that were on the stage. The actors
had clear voices and their acting was really
captivating! I was very emotional when Simba’s dad
died as the acting was super realistic! I hope I can go
back and maybe one day perform too!” – Calvin
5BH
“I just loved getting to see the actors dance and sing
from such good seats! I enjoyed the dancing and
singing however my favourite character would have to
be Rafiki (the monkey priest) because her acting was
hilarious! It was fun being out so late with my class
and the rest of year 5!” – Ada 5JS

Writing Masterclass
On Wednesday 22 November, 18 Yr 6 children from across the Federation gathered together at CPA
with the intention of improving their writing skills in order to become as great a storyteller as J. K.
Rowling or David Walliams!
The workshop was led by Lindsay Pickton – our external Eng-
lish Consultant – who inspired the children to challenge them-
selves to create amazing imagery through their choice of words
and phrases which would inspire any reader to read on! It was also a great opportunity to work together and share
ideas with our peers in other schools who also share our love
of great writing.
Here are a few samples from the fantastic pieces which were
created during the session by our representatives: Adam, Alex,
Imy, Kirithiga, Mobeen and Shivani.

question any absence where the
whole family is not in school.
Home visits are made regularly to
check on the welfare of children if
we are concerned that children
are at home or have gone away
during term time without a valid
reason.
We want the very best for every child and we know what a
significant negative effect poor
attendance can have on a child
both academically and socially.
That is why we will continue to
be relentless with our drive to
improve attendance for all.
Charity Update
We would like to
take this opportunity
to thank you all for
your wonderfu l
support over the
term with our
events to raise money for these
very worthwhile causes.
We have raised the
following amounts so far this
year:
Children in Need: £452.46
The Poppy Appeal: £417.98
Attendance Update
CPA’s attendance continue to be
strong at 97% which is excellent.
The vast majority of children now
have good or very good
attendance and this is having a
positive impact on the progress
being made. There is now a small
minority of children whose
attendance is much lower than we
would like. As you have seen the
Ofsted report commented on the
improvements to overa l l
attendance but commented on the
need to still improve for some
children and groups.
I would appreciate the support of
all parents to enable attendance to
be good for every child in school.
Whilst most families now really
understand the issues that poor
attendance or lateness and punctuality cause some still need
to really fully understand the
effect it can have on children both
now and in the future.
Whilst the number of requests for
exceptional leave in term time
h a v e r edu ce d p l e a s i n g l y
unfortunately we are still having
to fine some families who choose
to keep their child off school or
go away during term time. We are
now very strict on this and we will
