Kllburn, adult education director. One out of every 30 adults in the city is taking a high school class. The students are enrolled in 52 classes on subjects ranging from piloting and sail boat handling to English and pub- lic speaking. Of the total, some 350 adults are working for credit toward a high school diploma. For the lirst time this year, the Tor- rance Hoard of Education has extended the General Educa- tional Development tests to non-vets over 21 as a partial requirement for earning a high school diploma. The tests have been used for veterans for several years as the equivalent of up to 100 cred'its toward their high school diplomas. Many Reasons Students have a variety of reasons for enrolling in night school to qualify for job pro- motions, prepare for new oc- cupations, earn a high school diploma, prepare for college, renew former skills, learn homemaking skills, develop hobbles, improve personality, learn the English language, or prepare for citizenship. A large class of foreign-bom persons' is 'in school to pass their tests for citizenship. New phases of the program this year included recently- completed talks by Dr. Barney Katz. child and clinical psy- chologist in a series of parent education lectures on "Founda- tions of Family Living."
