Preparation: know your organisation & job

• Do your research• Questions to ask yourself include:

– What type of work am I interested in?– What is my availability?– What does the organisation do?– Why do you want to work for the organisation?– What skills, experience, qualities are required?

Identify your skills

• Transferable skills are those that apply to a range of activities

• Think of your past experiences to identify your transferable skills

• Many skills are transferable

• Tailor your resume by matching skills required in the job advertisement with your transferable skills

• All résumés should be targeted• Organise your résumé to ensure important

information appears on the first page• Be concise: 2-3 pages• Avoid unnecessary personal information• Highlight recent relevant experience (last 5

years)
