Term 1 Week 6, 5 March, 2020
Principal’s Report - Richard Ford
The last fortnight has been another busy one with some wonderful
opportunities for our students.
First we had 11 students represent Crawford at the Zone Swimming carnival
last Wednesday. The students behaviour was fantastic and Mr Teasdale
stated what a great day it was due to the great kids we have. Well done to
everyone and congratulations to Kayden who will be going to the regional
carnival later in the term for the 50ms freestyle.
PSSA started and our students were excited. We would just like to remind
parents that if your child has an injury or cannot attend due to some other
reason that you contact the school so a replacement player can be called
upon. We just want to make sure the kids have fun and enjoy themselves
while representing the school.
This past Monday, some of the school leadership group attended the
National Young Leaders day. It was a great day for our students who were
able to listen to inspirational speakers about resilience in life, leadership and
the dedication needed to be their best.
Also on Monday we had the Penrith Panthers come out and do a clinic with our Stage 2
students. Api Koroisua and Matt Burton came out with the NRL officer James to do some
fun drills with the kids and answer their questions. Both James and the players said that
our students were fantastic both in behaviour and enjoying themselves.
We would also like to congratulate a few of our students who have made the district
sports teams. Currently we have Jayla who has made the Touch Football side, Sione
and Warrigal who made the Under 11s Rugby League train on squad and Sione also
made the district Touch Football side as well.
Stage 3 had their first incursion with the Western Sydney University First Foot Forward
program yesterday and the students got a lot out of the day.
Thank you to the Western Sydney First
Foot Forward team for spending the
day with us.
The P and C Annual General Meeting will be held on Friday from 1.30-3pm. I would like to
thank the existing committee members for all their hard work over the year and the
difference they have made to the school. For people wanting to vote for the P and C
executive you need to be a financial member before the commencement of the
meeting at 2pm.
This week we have installed an AED
(Automatic Emergency Defibrillator) in the
school office. We would like to thank the P
and C for this wonderful contribution to our
school. The AED can be used in emergency
situations where a defibrillator is required for
an adult or child.
It is located inside the school office, next to
the fire hose, attached to the wall.
Our Stage 3 Overnight Excursion to Canberra has a few spots left for all Year 5 and 6
students. If you would like your child to attend this exciting camp please make a (non-
refundable) deposit of $50 to secure a spot.
The second payment for the Stage 3 camp is due on Friday 20th March.
Just a reminder that if you change your phone number you can update your details by
calling the office or using the update details form on the Skoolbag App.
The school will send home notes sometimes when there have been unexplained
absences for a student. It is important that all absences are explained via, phone, note
or through the App within 7 days of the absence.

Step into Stage One!!
Stage One Students have continued to settle in well to their new classrooms
and routines. It has been great to see students expanding on their friendship
groups and even welcoming new faces.
All the Stage One teachers have noticed how hard each and every
student in their class is working and how they are trying to be Safe,
Respectful Learners at all times.
This fortnight students have been working on developing their reading and
writing skills, looking at making equal groups of numbers and even learning
all the chances of events occurring. Students are really liking using a
calendar and working out the months in each year.
Our students are enjoying learning about things in the past and present with
Mrs Hunt in RFF and are loving visiting the library with Ms Hardie. Library bags
are required to borrow books. We would love to see as many students as
possible borrowing books and engaging with these stories at home.
Students have been discussing how much fun they are having every
second Thursday during Sports in Schools time. Please remember to label
hats as a few have gone wandering during this time.
Our students love to share their learning with their parents and caregivers
via the app SeeSaw. Last week notes were sent home to explain SeeSaw
and how you can join onto your child's learning journal. If you can we
highly recommend that you
join and share in the
educational journey
alongside your children.
If you have any questions or
concerns, please see your
child's teacher or book an
appointment with Miss
Allen.

Stage 3 News On Monday 2nd March our Captains, Vice-Captains and Prefects were
lucky enough to attend the National Leader’s Day at the International
Convention Centre, Sydney. The speakers included Erin Molan for Channel
Nine, Rove McManus from TV who has also written some children’s books
and Bianca Chatfield, former
Australian Netballer and now TV sports
reporter. We heard about their
personal stories in leadership and the
resilience it sometimes takes to be a
leader. Our students behaved
impeccably, and all had a very
enjoyable day, taking some good
advice from a different viewpoint that
they can use themselves.
This week we have the first instalment of the First Foot Forward program
provided by Western Sydney University. During this incursion our students will
get a taste of some of the options available to them at University. There are
always some really enjoyable activities which are followed by a visit to
Parramatta Campus later on in the year.
The last two weeks have seen a real improvement in the pride our students
are taking in their uniforms as the leaders of the school. Thanks for your help
from home in making sure your students are in uniform, especially as the
weather cools. Green jumpers please!
Attendance is another area we have been working hard on this year.
Overall it hasn’t been too bad but we do have one or two students who
have been away for various reasons already this year and some who are
late regularly. Please be at school and on time. It gives your child the best
opportunity to succeed.
PSSA has started for summer and from all reports the first week went well.
We have also had a few students selected in Zone teams. We’re all very
proud of you and wish you the best of luck moving forward with these.
Finally just a reminder we still have spots available on our camp to
Canberra. Get your $50 deposit and note in before it is too late!
We're collecting eligible drink containers to redeem for a 10c refund each
under NSW's Return and Earn scheme. It's a great way for students to get
involved in recycling, help reduce litter and raise money for our school.
You can do your bit to help at school by putting eligible containers in our
orange recycling bins (located in the office and stage 3) or by donating
them at one of the two the reverse vending machine locations below,
between the 24th of February and the 24th of May. Simply scan your eligible
containers and choose to donate your refund to Crawford Public School.
You can donate your refunds at the following reverse vending machines:
Plumpton Hotel Glendenning 556 Richmond Rd, Glendenning, 2761 or
Plumpton Marketplace 262 Jersey Rd, Plumpton, 2761
NSW Department of Education advises that glass or containers used for milk
products or alcohol are not accepted on school grounds. Find out more
