Y7 Parents’ Information Evening 7th October.

Thank you…. to all parents and students who attended our Year 7 Parents’ Information Evening on Tuesday, 7th October. The evening was a great success and we really do appreciate your positive comments and feedback!

Both Kerrie Sinclair (Year 11) and Joe Orbell (Year 12) competed together for ten days in Montpelier (South of France) in the World Championships. A typical day involved participation in both pool and beach events which led onto the next stages of the competition. Joe and Kerrie train together every week with Joe putting in approximately 15hrs a week.

The competitions have taken them to London, Leeds, Sheffield, France and they are looking to compete in the Netherlands in two years time. Kerrie was placed 15th out of the youth girls and Joe placed 25th in the main event qualifying in the adults time. They are also competing in the Yorkshire Lifesaving tomorrow in Leeds. Good luck for tomorrow Kerrie and Joe!

KS3 SPELLING:

KS3 students please don’t forget to learn ten commonly used and often misspelled words as part of your week 2 homework as you will be tested in your week 1 English lessons. Spellings can be found in four different places; the fortnightly spellings noticeboard on the English corridor, the display screens around school, as a down-load from the English Subject page on the website, or on Twitter by following @CrawshawEnglish.

P16 CPR TRAINING: On 16th October, between 11 and 12 p.m., a number of volunteers will be coming in to train all our P16 students in CPR. This is also going to be a world record attempt to be part of the largest mass CPR session.

Exhibition of Tapestries—Temple Newsam House

There is a fantastic exhibition on at the moment at Temple Newsam House that would provide students with the opportunity to see the work of renowned British Artist, Grayson Perry, first-hand. This is a fantastic opportunity for all students. Mrs Oates is actively encouraging her year 10 GCSE Fine Art group to make a visit as it links in directly with their project and first-hand experience of artwork has a positve impact upon attainment. Three students have already attended and really appreciated the work on exhibit. The exhibition details are shown below.

The Vanity of Small Differences Saturday 23rd August to Sunday 7th December, 2014

Temple Newsam House is delighted to welcome ‘The Vanity of Small Differences’, an exhibition of six tapestries created during the BAFTA winning Channel 4 documentary series ‘All in the Best Possible Taste’ by Turner Prize-winning artist Grayson Perry. The contemporary tapestries will hang in 19th

century rooms filled with fine art, furniture, wallpaper and ceramics.

PLEASE HELP US TO HELP YOUR CHILD

Minor illness During the winter months we often have to contact parents to ask them to bring in medication when

a student has a cold, sore throat or headache. We would like to make you aware that we can securely store your child’s medication safely under lock key for use when necessary—please make

sure it is clearly labelled with his/her name and dosage instructions. Any medication given during the school day is

recorded with the date, time and dosage in your child’s planner and also on our school database.

Asthma If your child suffers from asthma, could you please provide us with a spare inhaler in a transparent bag clearly labelled with the student’s name and dosage instructions so that we can deal with medical situations promptly.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Year 7 Rugby

Mr Oxley and Mr Asquith accompanied the Year 7 rugby league team to Stanningley Rugby Club on Wednesday, 8th October to begin their journey in the RFL’s Champion School’s Tournament. This first stage was a qualifying tournament between the Leeds West Partnership schools.

The team was a mix of experienced players and complete beginners who performed extremely well. The team qualified as runners up after victories over Priesthorpe (1-0) and Farnley Academy (4-1) before a narrow defeat to a strong Leeds West (0-1) in a tense final. They will now progress to the city wide tournament full of confidence.

The team train on Tuesdays after school and new players are always welcome.

Year 11 Student Tom Scott was also on hand to referee during the tournament after recently gaining his referee qualification and did a great job.

Sorry we don’t have a photo due to torrential rain on the day!
