Creating a Project IMG and IMG Role

The following steps describe the steps to create a Project IMG .

Caution: This is only for demonstration purposes and should be attempted at a

customer’s place if you are not an business/function expertAfter crea ting the Projec t IMG, we will build the IMG role

Ma ny a time, there is a requirement at the c ustomers plac e to give access to theIMG for the functional team to do the configuration. And to do that the securityteam ends up giving more ac cess than what is need needed.

There are two parts to this document. Both the parts are independent to eachother and can be done separately.

1. Creating an IMG Project2. Creating an IMG Role

PART I: Creating a Project IMG

We create an IMG taking assuming that the customer is implementing AccountsRec eivable module

Caution: This is a Functional teams part. Security Consultants should NOT bedoing this.

Execute the transaction /nSPRO_ADMIN

Click in the Crea te icon

You will get Crea te Pro jec t from Tem pla te : Cus tom izing Pro jec t box.

Enter a projec t name

Click on the Continue icon

You will get the Create Project Window

Enter brief description for the projec t and click on Save icon

You could also specify the Planned Start and End of the project

Click on the Scope tab

Select the Sp e c ify p ro j e c t b y m a k in g m a n u a l se l e c t io n s in Re f e re n c e I M Gradiobutton

Click on the Specify Scope… button

You will get the Select IMG Nodes box

Expand the node Financial Accounting

Select the node Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable node and click on

the Selec t icon at the bottom of the box

This will select all the subnodes too.


At the bottom of the screen you should get the following message:

Now click on the Generate Project IMG button

You may get information box similar to the following:


You will get the Generate Project IMG box


The generation proc ess begins in the background

You can check the status of the job using the transac tion SM37 or SM50

This proc ess may take some time depending on the number of nodes that haveto generated.

After the generation is complete, you will get a message similar to the following:

Click on the Save icon to the save the Projec t IMG

Click on the Back icon to come out of the Projec t IMG screen

The Project IMG is now created.

Note: The above steps are the basic steps that are needed to done in order tocreate and Project IMG. For an actual Project IMG some other information suchlist of Project Team Member is also maintained

PART II: CREATING AN IMG ROLEAfter the project IMG is created, you can now use it to create the IMGConfiguration role.

We will now create an IMG role based on the project IMG that we c reate above

Exec uting the transaction /nPFCG

Enter a role name and click on Crea te Role icon

Enter a brief description for the role

Click on the Save icon

Click on the Menu Tab

You will get the Customizing Authorizations box

Click on the Add button

You will get the Insert Customizing Activities box

You will now the get the list of project IMG s that are created in the system

Select the Project IMG and click on Continue icon

The system will begin the proc ess of adding the Tcodes from the nodes selectedin the Projec t IMG

You can now no longer add any transaction codes into this role in the menu tab

Click on the Authorization tab and maintain the values for the authorizationobjects as per your requirement and then generate the profiles for the role.

The role is now ready to assigned to the configurators.
