Creating / changing plates

Create a plate at 0, 0, 0 of the User Coordinate System (UCS) with a length of 8 1/2” and a width of 10”.

1. On the Objects tab, Plates panel, and click the Rectangular plate center icon

2. Enter 0, 0, 0 as central point of the plate.

The plate is created and the properties dialog box appears.

3. In the properties dialog box, on the Shape & Material tab, make the following settings:

Define the width X: 10”;

Define the length Y: 8 1/2”;

Define the plate thickness: 3/4”.

Folded plates, conical and twisted plates

Before starting

Set your UCS to world.

Create a plate 1’-4” width in the X direction

and 1’ length the Y direction.C

Using Advance Steel drawings tools on the Home tab Draw panel, create a construction line at 4” from the left edge of the plate then offset it 8” inches.

Next, split the plate at the lines, using the splitting tool. The Gap should be set to 0.

1. Select the plate then enter.

2. Select the first line then the second line then enter. The plate is split.

3. Delete the construction lines.

Creating folded plate – without position adjustment

1. On the Objects tab, Plates panel, click .

2. Select the first plate (smaller) near the edge to connect.

3. Select the second plate (middle) near the edge to connect.

4. In the properties dialog box, specify the bending angle: 45.

The two plates are joined. To bring back the properties double click on the red Plate fold relation symbol.

5

Creating folded plate – with position adjustment

1. On the Objects tab, Plates panel, click .

2. Select the second plate (middle plate) near the edge to connect.

3. Select the third plate near the edge to connect then enter.

4. Enter – 45 in the angle field.

Define the folded plate main object

1. On the Objects tab, Plates panel, click .

2. Select the lower plate.

The lower plate is now the main plate.

Display unfolded

1. On the Objects tab, Plates panel, click .

2. Select the plate.

3. Type Y (Yes) on the command line.

4. Press Enter.

The unfolded representation is displayed.

Conical plate – contour

To create a conical plate by contour, draw 2 circles in parallel planes using the Advance Steel drawings tools on the Home tab Draw panel.

The circles have a radius of 1’-4” and 10” and a 36” distance between them.

1. On the Objects tab, Plates panel, click .

2. Enter, (shape type: C Contour) is the default.

3. Select the 1’-4” radius circle, enter,twice.

4. Select the 10” radius circle, enter.

The properties dialog box appears.

5. Define the number of facets per corner: 20.

6. Define the plate thickness: 3/8”

7. Set justification: 1

8. Select OK.

For a more realistic presentation, change Visual styles from the icon on the top left of the drawing window.

Conical plate between two beams

To create a conical plate between beams, first create 2 sections and modify their properties, as follows:

Section class: Circular hollow sections

Section type: AISC 14.1 HSS Pipe

Section size: HSSRound 10x0.250

1. On the Objects tab, Plates panel, click .

2. On the command line, type: B and press Enter.

3. Select the HSS square.

4. On the command line, type: B press Enter.

5. Select the HSS pipe section.

The properties of the Conical folded plate dialog box is displayed.

6. In the properties dialog box, define the number of facets per corner: 8.

Section class: Square /rectangular hollow sections

Section type: AISC 14.1 HSS square Section size: HSS 3x3 x1/4”

Twisted plates

To create a twisted plate, create two polylines containing arcs, in parallel planes, using the drawings tools on the Home tab Draw panel.

1. On the Objects tab, Plates panel, click create twisted folded plate icon.

2. Select the lower polyline then the polyline above then enter.

The properties dialog box appears.

3. Define the number of facets per corner: 20. 4. The twisted plate appears.

To make a plate from and ellipse: Type “Pellispe” set the variable to 1. Create an ellipse 3’ long by 2’ wide.

Use the plate at Polyline tool

9

Conical plate with hopper and chute

To create the conical plate with hopper and chute;

1. Draw 2 circles at 0,0,0. The circles have a diameter of 11” and 5 1/2”.

2. Create two more circles 1'-6" above with the diameter 1’-6” and 2’.

3. Copy the circle with diameter 1’-6” down 1/2” then up 5”.

To create a circular plate which will be created at the WCS follow procedure below.

4. On the Objects tab, Plates panel, click Circular plate. The Circular plate is created at 0,0,0 and the properties dialog box is displayed.

5. Fill in the fields to create a circular plate with a 5 1/2” cut in the center.

OD= 11”, ID= 5 1/2”, Thickness= 1/2”. Click Save, click OK.

6. On the Objects tab, Plates panel, click then enter.

7. Select the 5 1/2” diameter circle then enter twice.

8. Select the lower 1’-6” diameter circle then enter.

The properties dialog box is displayed. Fill in the fields as in the figure below. Select OK. Create the second transitional

plate by selecting the then enter. Select the upper 1’-6” diameter circle, enter twice. Select the other 1’-6” diameter circle above. Fill in the fields as seen below.

To create a plate that would attach to the platform move the UCS to the center of the circle with diameter 2’ repeat steps 4 and 5. Fill in the fields as seen below. Select save then OK.

NOTE: You can remove the features to create a rectangular plate.
