For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat….Jesus The Southwest Pantry was 1 of 100 nationwide pantries chosen to participate
in a FRESH produce summer distribution program. Approximately 3,500 lbs. of pro-duce was given during the months of June, July and August.
Annually, approximately 170,000 lbs. of food is served to over 500 families per month by a pool of 25 volunteers from 10 am—2 pm each Monday and Thursday!
If you wish to volunteer to serve at the pantry, you may contact Wayne Blake or the office. Another way to participate is financial donations. Canned goods that cost $5 in the store is sold to the Pantry for $1.
During the summer, our 1st grade class studied the Mis-sionary Journeys of Paul as he established churches and revisited them. At the conclusion of the quarter, they read the letters to the Seven Churches recorded in Revelation where John listed their good and the not so good qualities. The class then completed Report Cards for Southwest church based on their experience. You can see her grades in the picture. If you were a child’s only contact with Southwest, what would the grades be in these subjects: LOVE, KINDNESS, JOYFUL, FRIENDLY, FUN, HELPFUL, ACT LIKE JESUS

Welcome to our new Southwest newsletter! We are excited about the opportunity to celebrate the good things God is doing among us. Though this newsletter cannot keep us fully aware of the hundreds of things done to glorify God through this church, we believe it will inspire, encourage, and prompt praise and thanksgiving to our God by expanding our vision of what God is al-
ready doing – and what God can yet do through us.
This newsletter is called ENGAGE because it highlights news about our mission: “We create opportunities for people to engage life with God.” This is what we are called to do – personally, in groups and ministries, and through our entire Southwest family. We long for people to discover life with God through Jesus’ life in us. So we challenge every person, every group, and every minis-try to follow a threefold rhythm life: Worship God, Care for each other, and Bless the World. The news you read in this newsletter are examples of what occurs when we live this life together – for the sake of the world and for the
glory of God.
Darla Kellett will be the point person for producing this publication. It will be published quarterly. Be sure to let Darla know of “God stories” that will help encourage us all. You can contact her at 870-932-9254 or at dkel-

At WOLFLIFE Campus Ministry, Southwest's on-campus outreach to Arkansas State Univer-sity, late August through early September is our busiest time of the year. In fact, we believe the first two weeks of the school year are the most important days of all. That's because when freshmen show up on campus, they will typically connect with a group during the first two weeks, and the group with which they connect during that time will often be the group they stay connected with throughout their entire collegiate experience.
One great way for Southwest families to get involved is through our student adoption program, so if you would like to "adopt" an A-State student or would like to get involved some other way, contact Monica Buxton (275-7642, [email protected]).
So we fill the first ten days of the school year with lots of events that give our returning students lots of opportunities to connect with freshmen and transfer students. Some of those events in-clude our Welcome Back Worship on campus the day before classes begin, a cookout, slip-n-slide, game night, "WOLFeed" free lunch (every Tuesday @11:30), our Bible study/discussion event called LIFT (every Wednesday night @7), ultimate frisbee, community groups (every Thursday night) and of course, the welcome back Sunday at Southwest, which includes our college class in Room 406.

The small moments when our students ENCOUNTER Jesus …..priceless and limitless!
The day our junior high students partnered with Mission Outreach (homeless shelter in Paragould), one of our new 7th graders, Keegan Lackey, became friends with one of the children who live at the shelter. The next day, Keegan told me he went home and gathered all of his old toys to donate to kids who need a toy. He also made sure to donate batteries.
One of our new seniors, Jackson Sneed, went on his first mission trip this past summer. Jackson was one of our students who did an assimilation project where they stood on a busy street and asked people to spare them the time.
After seeing and experiencing firsthand the stripping of human dignity, Jackson made the com-ment….”Why can’t there be a Dry Bones everywhere?” Our students were extremely hum-bled by the Dry Bones mission trip.
May our students grow. May
our students serve. May our
students become more like Jesus!
Our precious 4th-6th grade girls met together every Thursday this summer. They
laughed together, crafted together, and together they learned how to keep clean hearts
for God.
On August 12th, celebrities were in our midst! The pre-schoolers donned their
fanciest and attended our 2nd Annual Movie Premier complete with red carpet
AND paparazzi.
These boys are Men on a Mission! Every Thursday they came to the building and got
stuff DONE. Their final project was a picnic table for the toddler playground. We
appreciate your service, Men!
