Caregivers provide the primary care environ-
ments for children. This workshop aims to
help participants learn information and strate-
gies on how to provide therapeutic environ-
ments for children who have been affected by
trauma. Participants will learn about trauma
and its impacts using the principles of the
Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics and
the Green, Yellow, Red Approach. The work-
shop is designed for parents, foster parents,
social workers, teachers, and others in a care-
giving position. This workshop will help them
to build on their skills to provide children with
environments that provide multiple therapeutic
opportunities to promote recovery, growth,
resilience, and repair.

About the Presenter
Leah Gudbjartson-Beaupre is a clinician/social
worker in private practice, a consultant, and trainer at
Lifa Vel Counselling and Consulting. Leah has a
Bachelor of Recreation Studies (Therapeutic
Recreation), and a Master’s in Social Work from the
University of Manitoba. She has completed Phase 2
level training in NMT from the Child Trauma
Academy, and Advanced Training in the Natural
Lifemanship Model TF-EAP. She specializes in
working with children and adults impacted by
trauma, using a recovery and resiliency based
approach, and incorporates NMT principles into
practice. Leah provides therapy in an office setting,
and also conducts animal-assisted therapy sessions
with both horses and dogs. She works on a casual
basis in adult mental health crisis response services.
Leah also teaches in the area of social work practice
in mental health and works as a Field Liaison for the
University of Manitoba Faculty of Social Work

completed NMT Training Certification
through the Phase II level
Leah is passionate about training and sharing infor-
mation in the field. As part of her Master’s work, she
created a Teaching Our Children Sexual Safety
program. She has also created the Green, Yellow,
Red Approach as a way to make teaching regulation
and safety easier, and as a way for children and their
caregivers to communicate about how regulated and
safe they are feeling. Leah has presented at the Inter-
national NMT Symposium in 2016 on both Animal-
Assisted Therapy and the Green, Yellow, Red Ap-
proach using NMT principles.
