Le Voyage Dans la Lune Review

Hi Ashley, everything concerning third person and quotes has already been covered so I thought I'd

instead refer back to an interesting comment in your review :)

the directors wanted to get everything they felt was significant in the shot instead of having a more

natural approach and allowing some things to be missed out as they would be in reality... instead of

the occupants of the scene being spread outwards, they were spread upwards (as if taking a class

photo) which made the opening scenes come across as less of a film shot and more of a theatre

    performance.

A nice description of the set up and likely true thing you've picked up on, I agree with your

statement. When I first watched the film I assumed it began with some kind of University lecture

with men donning a Wizard-like appearance, it wasn't until I did further research I realized this

    wasn't it at all.

The 'up rather than outwards' approach as well as the set design and static camera does give the

film a different feel to it, one that our generation isn't used to which can make for uncomfortable

viewing for some, if not many.

Some advice on future quoting, research various different reliable sources related to differentaspects of the film first and pick and choose which ones to use in your review then respond to them

rather than making the same mistake as I did by writing an unfortunately essay length film review

then adding in quotes after which relate to what I'd already pointed out.

'At the Mountains of Madness' Thumbnails (1)

There's something about number 2 that I really like, as if tentacles are reaching out for the plane :)

'At the Mountains of Madness' Thumbnails (2)

Your ability with pen drawing is very effective, of these I most like number 10 and 14 :)

    Photoshop Thumbnail (2)

All I can say is this'll make an excellent final piece when developed!

'At the Mountains of Madness' Thumbnails (3)

Another nice bunch of thumbnails! I quite like 22 and 25 :)

Digital Painting Thumbnail Sketches - First Attempt

Hey Danny! Great sketches to start with especially when this is your first time to go digital! I like #9

and #16. In #9, I see a life form. I see an old person with thick eye brows wearing a pair of broken

specs! In #16, I see a tank- like machine.. aiming for the sky!

My reply / M.R.Thanks for your feedback Ayunie, I'll admit that when creating #9 I had absolutely

no idea what I was drawing and to my eyes it ended up looking like some creepy baby thing! With

#16 that's the look I was going for. It's really interesting to see where other people's imagination

take them in terms of what you see :)

Advice Nugget #1: Bad Sleep = Bad Day

Great advice indeed, Danny! Yes, I agree. With sufficient sleep, the mind will work at its optimum

level. Otherwise, it will have this snowball effect for the rest of the week unless you take a day off orsomething to recuperate which is highly unlikely possible. Cause if you do, you'll miss out a lot on

    the day's lessons.

M.R. Damn, to get the best out of this course missing lessons is to be avoided! I got lucky with self

directed study today, I must say I've learnt my lesson. :)

    Influence Map (2)

I see you've add a personal touch to your influence map template, Well done! Now, I can't wait to

    see your thumbnails! :)

M.R. Fingers crossed creativity doesn't fail me! And I have you to thank for the inspiration :)

A.R. Don't mention it! Next up, THUMBNAILS! :D Get them uploaded :)

    Animation & Character: Lesson One

Hey Danny, I am looking forward to the video so I can see your drawings come to live! You should

also set up a post on our previous lesson so let your readers know how we progress during theanimation lessons! :)

M.R. Vimeo's currently converting the Morphing video, I look forward to posting it because it was a

very fun task :D 35 minutes and counting!

Animation & Character: Lesson Two - Character Morphing

Great job Danny and team! It's fun isn't it that you're able to create something out of a circle? I like

the final outcome of your work! Well done! :)

M.R. Thank you, I'd definitely do it again! At first looking at the circle and thinking we had to

transform it into our character was like "O hell..." but as soon as we got into it, it became so much

easier -just goes to show, two (in this case, four) heads really are/can be better than one :)

Visual Concept: Gothic | Cinematic Spaces

Hi Danny, I know you want your visual concept to work around the gothic theme but having just

mentioned it will be a little vague. I suggest you come up with an influence map to be slightly

specific and express your words visually :)

M.R. Fingers crossed I have the opportunity before 8pm but if so I definitely will! :)

'Masque of the Red Death' Thumbnails (2)

I am liking RD10! Like Joey suggested, try from a low angle and I think the outcome will be better!Looking forward to your experimental drawings that'll be coming in!

M.R. Thank you! I shall get to that tomorrow morning :)

'Masque of the Red Death' Thumbnails (4): RD12 - 19

Hi Danny! I really like RD 16! I can sense some dark and eerie kind of feeling in this thumbnail! Well

    done!

M.R. Thanks Ayunie :) that makes three people who like RD16, I may be on to something with that

    one!

Btw, see link in regard to changes for tmr's classes.

'Masque of the Red Death' Thumbnails (12): Black Room Development 2

RD 56 is looking good Danny! I like how the light subtly highlights the textured walls and the

window pane! I am liking the ground too because it doesn't seem like it is flat..There's like a bit of

    depth to it!

M.R. Thank you very much for your feedback! Once I've put the objects such as the clock and

hanging tapestries in there then this one'll be completed :)

    Metropole- Influence Map 2

Hi Ayunie, I must admit as a complete whole your Influence Map is an excellent sight thanks to the

combination of a great choice of relevant imagery and the background composed of tree branches

and leaves(?) which reminds me of marble. I assume you created it yourself, correct me if I'm wrong!

Rather than just filling squares on a basic template which many of us - including myself - have done,

you've made the entire Influence Map eye-catching! I may even have to get designing my owntemplate... :)

A.R. Hi Danny, Thank you! Yup, I created the influence map myself with the help of a few

photoshop brushes! I find that it adds a personal touch when creating your own instead of using the

ones given! I highly urge you to come up with a template of your own because we constantly have to

expand our creativity in every possible way! :)

    Metropole Thumbnail (17-28)

Hey Ayunie, I'm liking how you've followed your own style for your thumbnails. I particularly like 17

as the camera angle emphasizes the sheer scale of the structure, 27 for your use of realistic

foreshortening on the train, I also like how you've kept the human and animal figures simplified yet

noticeable and rightly focused the eye on the environment design :)

A.R. Hey Danny! Thanks for the feedback! I guess I was just experimenting with angles and

perspectives because to have it frontal flat design would've been boring.

Master StudiesA very nice master study, you've broken it down into its main colours well :D

A.R.Thanks Danny but there's always room for improvement :)

    Animation Lesson 2- Morphing

An impressive morphing animation! An idea for the future may be to make for example, the limbs

move during both transformations to give it that bit more life :)

A.R.Thanks Danny. We did try but apparently the animation was too fast to get noticed! We learntthat to see the animation, we need more frames in between. :)

    Metropole Thumbnails (54 - 69)

Hi Ayunie, I'm liking 58 for its stretched sense of perspective of the left-most building, the odd

hourglass building and the twisted, unnatural stair design. I also like 65 for the dramatic effect given

to the size of the surrounding structures compared to the people and how it's as if everything is

being squeezed towards the domed building in the center :)

A.R. Hi Danny, thank you for the feedback! I was considering 65 for further developments but I am

trying to stay away from human characters and focus on the environment instead! :)

    Perspective Practice

Hi Ayunie, I like how you've been experimental with different shapes, such as the UCA CGAA letters

1-point perspective to make even just this practice more interesting to look at than just following atutorial for cubes and cuboid's and stopping there!

Your two point perspective has a nice combination of shapes and sizes however I'm slightly confused

about the perspective of what appears to be an L-shaped block due to the objects proximity to each

    other.

Concerning your struggle with 3-point perspective, I don't know if you've used the perspective

tutorial linked in the Cinematic Spaces brief but if not then check it out because it breaks it down

into simple steps very well, if so start off small with the shape and position of your objects e.g. a

simple, centered cuboid - then grow more ambitious with shapes and sizes when your confidence

    grows!

It'd be interesting to see a kind of before and after version of future work involving perspective in

terms of showing the perspective lines leading to the vanishing point as a 'before' and then (like

above) without the perspective lines as 'after'. :)

    A.R. Hi Danny,

As a matter of fact, I didn't looked into the linked tutorial in the Cinematic Spaces brief but I

however, did watch some videos and read a few books regarding 3 points perspective which is still a

bit of a struggle for me! Thanks so much for letting me know where I can get the needed resources!

In regards to having UCA CGAA block letter for my one point perspective practice, I felt that I

wouldn't learn much by just doing blocks so I started with those block letters! :D

Addressing your confusion to one of my drawings in the 2 points perspective practice, I forgot to add

a line across the meeting point of the vertical "|" and the horizontal "_" line. I don't know if you can

imagine it but it should create a hollow space between the L shaped block and the one in front of it.

    :)

It is interesting to be experimenting with different types of perspectives in current and future works

but I guess we just have to ensure that it fits the theme.

    Metropole Thumbnails (70 - 85)

Just wow! These look great, I quite like 72, 74, 77 and 82 :) I'm sure your eventual final concepts are

    going to look great!

A.R. Thanks Danny! :) I hope they'll look alright at the end too! :P

    Metropole - Church Scene

Well painted, lovely painterly style, well done perspective, great angle, excellent eye-catching

vibrant colours - what more can I say! :D

A.R. Aww Danny, you're too kind! More needs to be added to this scene though cause it's still

    boring to me!

M.R. We are our own worst critics so I look forward to seeing how you further develop this! Either

    way you're doing great :)

    A.R. Thanks so much! :)

Cinematic Spaces - Metropole CD Artwork

    OoOoOo very nice! :)

Final Concept Paintings (Scene 1 and 2)

Absolutely wonderful, you have a nice style! Well done, I look forward to the third :D

    A.R. Thanks guys! :D

    First lot of thumbnails

Even though you ventured away from Jordan's style, you're developing your own thumbnail style

and have successfully shown us exactly what you need to so you have achieved the same aim. I'm

myself struggling so my method will for now be to do traditional thumbnails then import them in for

colour compositions. I particularly like what would be number 9 as you have achieved a nice sense of

    perspective :)

    Street of Crocodiles Thumbnails.

Hi Dan, of these I most like 7, 8 and 27.

    Comments to Maja

Space & Environment: Photoshop Homework 1 (thumbnails)Hi Maja, on the first bunch of thumbnails I like what would be 1 for the distant oriental-type castle

and well used grass brush, 2 for the eerie image of a closed eyed, slightly deformed (mouth) girl

holding her hands to her ears and most of all, 5 for you have used a nice combination of many

elements such as a spotlight to maybe indicate sunrise, the leaf brush rotated and re-sized giving the

impression of swirling in the wind and of course the nicely painted dragon-like creature.

Do these thumbnails relate to your story? If so please specify which story and upload the

quotes/highlighting related to the thumbnails or influence map images when you get the

    opportunity :)

Cinematic Spaces Scene 2 Development Stages

Nice development, excellently brutal :) hope to see it developed further!
