Our strong heritage of high quality craftsmanship, design and artistic endeavour ensures that Loughborough remains a popular choice for talented people wishing to study art and design in higher education.

Today, Loughborough’s creative departments are amongst the best in the world. The Loughborough Design School brings together world-leading research in Design and Ergonomics, receiving outstanding scores in the National Student Surveys and many awards for its research including a Queen’s Anniversary Prize.

The School of the Arts, formerly Loughborough College of Art and Design successfully produces numerous national and international award-winning artists and designers every year.

Over the last one hundred years, there has been much to be proud of and celebrate. Artists such as Bryan Organ, Bridget Riley and Terry Shave studied and taught here, and key influencers on the Arts and Crafts Movement in the UK such as Edward Barnsley and Cecil Gough were tutors at Loughborough.

Over the last 10 years, Loughborough University Development Trust has received almost £2million in philanthropic donations to support funds like the Creative Scholarship Fund.

In turn, many thousands of students have benefitted, and the University has been able to provide a world-class education and experience – as evidenced by Loughborough topping the Times Higher Education’s (THE) Best Student Experience poll five years running.

In part, this has been made possible by the generosity of alumni and friends of the University. Some have supported the Trust from its earliest days, and week by week the number of supporters is growing.
