Executive Vice President: Opportunity Profile

The PositionCreighton University seeks nominations and applications for the Executive Vice President (EVP) position. The EVP will have the opportunity to lead, champion, and implement efforts to achieve the University’s strategic goals and to develop strategies to strengthen its business, financial, and administrative plans and policies.

The EVP is an executive officer of the University and the third member of a trio of top leadership at Creighton, working closely with the President and Provost. The position is responsible for leading and directing Continuous Improvement, Facilities Management, Finance, Human Resources, Internal Audit, Public Safety, and University Communications and Marketing. This position also provides administrative oversight for, and coordination with, Athletics, General Counsel, and University Relations. The EVP also is responsible for directing the Enterprise Risk Management process.

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for an experienced and confident leader with strategic vision who has a documented history of successfully leading and managing at the executive level. Creighton seeks a collaborative leader and effective communicator whose personal and professional experiences reflect a commitment to and knowledge of the higher education landscape, with a strong preference for candidates with demonstrable alignment with the University’s Jesuit, Catholic mission.

Having recently approved a new strategic plan, Creighton seeks candidates willing to partner with the campus community; its President, the Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson,SJ;

and Provost Thomas F. Murray, PhD, to advance the University’s important journey to an even bolder future. And, with Creighton’s academic partnership with CHI Health and Dignity Health as well as its role in the Creighton University Arizona Health Education Alliance, it is poised to expand its health sciences programs both in Omaha and Phoenix; Creighton seeks candidates who are able to continue moving these partnerships forward.

Founded in 1878, Creighton is one of 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States. More than 8,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students come to Creighton each year to find their place in the world and learn to become leaders through service to others. Creighton, through the advancement of its mission and by infusing Jesuit principles in all that it does, forms leaders for a more just world.

Creighton University—located in Omaha, Nebraska, with a presence and partnerships across the globe—offers its students a top-ranked education in the Jesuit tradition.

Reporting to President Hendrickson, the EVP is a key leader and executive officer and, in alignment with Creighton’s trio leadership model, serves as one of the University’s top three officers, along with the President and Provost. The EVP has key responsibilities for overseeing the implementation and operationalization of Creighton’s strategic plan, a critical focus for the University over the next several years.

The EVP also serves on the President’s Cabinet and President’s Council and represents the University externally in various capacities. Additionally, the EVP regularly interacts with the Creighton University Board of Trustees, including participation on the Executive Committee; Budget and Finance Committee; Investment Subcommittee; Risk Management, Audit and Compliance Committee; Infrastructure Subcommittee; and Campaign Steering Committee.

The EVP will undertake work across the institution, including, but not limited to, the following:

Creighton University OverviewCreighton University, located in Omaha, Neb., offers a top-ranked education in the Jesuit tradition for people who want to contribute something meaningful to the world. It’s where students, faculty, and staff thrive in a supportive community committed to Jesuit, Catholic values and traditions. And, it’s where students learn to become leaders through service to others.

Creighton’s nine schools and colleges deliver powerful education that connects arts and sciences, law, and business with health sciences programs in dentistry, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, occupational and physical therapy, public health, and emergency medical services.

Founded in 1878, Creighton is one of 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the U.S. More than 8,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students come to Creighton each year to find their place in the world. The University enjoys both financial and enrollment stability and in 2017 received reaffirmation of its accreditation status through 2026–27.

As members of the Society of Jesus, the more than 17,000 Jesuits serving around the world continue the Ignatian tradition by advancing education. The Society of Jesus— the world’s largest Catholic religious order of priests and brothers—was founded in the mid-1500s by St. Ignatius of Loyola.

Creighton University again earned the top spot in U.S. News & World Report magazine’s rankings of Midwest Regional Universities for 2018—the 15th year in a row the University has earned the No. 1 ranking in the magazine’s

“America’s Best Colleges” edition.

Nationally, for the fourth year in a row, Creighton also was one of 42 universities around the country to be acknowledged for an emphasis on undergraduate research/creative projects. Creighton is the lone Catholic university on the list.

Creighton also was one of 20 schools in the country recognized for internship programs encouraging students to apply classroom learning with real-world experience. The University also is the only Catholic university in the category.

Creighton maintained its place as No. 1 for Best College for Veterans in the Midwest region.

Two programs in the Creighton University Heider College of Business again earned recognition among the Top 100 Best Undergraduate Business Programs, with a No. 18 ranking in Finance and a No. 33 ranking in Accounting.

As a Best Value School, Creighton earned a No. 6 ranking in the Midwest.

Creighton’s athletic department is an NCAA Division I program and a member of the BIG EAST Conference. Creighton Athletics sponsors 14 sport programs and has nearly 300 Bluejay student-athletes.

The University, through its participation in the Creighton University Arizona Health Education Alliance, is expanding medical education programs to help meet that state’s growing demand for physicians and other health care professionals. The University also operates health care education programs through its partnerships in Hastings, Nebraska; Denver, Colorado; and Anchorage, Alaska.

Creighton also is preparing to open the doors on a new School of Dentistry in fall 2018, on the north edge of campus. The more than 200,000-square-foot educational and clinical facility will carry on a 113-year tradition as it meets the growing demands of Creighton’s dental program and patient base, as well as the local and national need for oral health care.

Fr. Hendrickson’s first contact with Creighton was as a student in the Jesuit Humanities Program in 1996. He returned as an adjunct instructor of philosophy from 2000 to 2003. He also served as an adjunct professor with Creighton’s Institute for Latin American Concern (ILAC) program in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 2002. Fr. Hendrickson was a visiting instructor at Jordan University College in Morogoro, Tanzania, and an adjunct professor of philosophy at Fordham University.

In 2012, he returned to Marquette University as associate vice president in the Office of the Executive Vice President, working closely with the president, provost and academic deans. He then became an associate provost for academic initiatives at Marquette. While in administrative posts at Marquette, Fr. Hendrickson also taught each semester jointly in the Department of Philosophy and College of Education, and he served as the co-director of the Burke Scholars service and leadership program. He was elected to the Creighton Board of Trustees in 2013 and also serves on the boards of Boston College and Xavier University. Fr. “Our students,” writes Fr. Hendrickson in his introduction to the University’s new strategic plan, “become not only business leaders, journalists, health care professionals, lawyers, entrepreneurs, biologists, and more. They become Creighton business leaders, Creighton journalists, Creighton health care professionals, Creighton lawyers, etc. They are called to enter the ‘gritty reality of this world’ so that they can feel it, engage it, and respond to it.”

“This is our difference,” he continues. “Our approach emphasizes the formation of the whole student— intellectually, spiritually, and socially. In that, we are preparing the types of graduates that the world desperately needs—problem-solvers, critical thinkers, ethical leaders, and skilled professionals who courageously tackle the complex issues facing society.

“Let us dream big, push boundaries, think creatively. Opportunity awaits. The real measure of our success lies in who we will become.”

Executive Vice President: Opportunity Profile

Academic Units of the UniversityCreighton’s nine schools and colleges include:

The College of Arts and Sciences ccas.creighton.edu

As Creighton’s largest and oldest college, students receive the personal attention they need to be critical and ethical thinkers, creative problem-solvers and clear communicators. The college houses more than 60 degrees and pre-professional programs ranging from American Studies to Education to Journalism to Sustainability.

Students are prepared to consider issues from multiple perspectives, making them well-rounded individuals and valuable members of any team. The Magis Core Curriculum ensures that all students gain a common set of abilities, in addition to knowledge in their field of study. Undergraduates have the opportunity to do original research, which many universities don’t offer until graduate school. Students are able to conduct life-changing research at the only Catholic university named to U.S. News & World Report’s list of “Top Schools for Undergraduate Research/Creative Projects.”

College of Nursing nursing.creighton.edu

For nearly 60 years, Creighton’s College of Nursing has been a leader in preparing the next generation of nursing professionals. Innovative programs are offered on campuses in Omaha and Hastings, Nebraska, as well as Phoenix, Arizona. The baccalaureate degree in nursing, master’s degree in nursing, and the Doctor of Nursing Practice programs at Creighton University are accredited by the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education.

College of Professional Studies adultdegrees.creighton.edu

Since 1983, the College of Professional Studies at Creighton University has been meeting—and exceeding—the needs of adult learners. These non-traditional students are supported with flexible learning programs and the resources they need to succeed. Students may take classes on campus during the day or choose online classes to fit studies into their busy lives. No matter which program of study, students benefit from a team of people in place to provide support, including academic coaches, to help them every step of the way. From academic advising to the Career Center staff, Creighton’s adult learners have access to the resources they need, when they need them.

Graduate School gradschool.creighton.edu

Although the first master’s degree at Creighton University was conferred in 1898, the Graduate School was not formally established as a separate division of the University until 1926. The Creighton Graduate School serves a variety of students across many disciplines, including business, health care, education, medical research, and theology.

There are over 40 master’s level programs available, as well as PhD programs and an interdisciplinary EdD in leadership.

The graduate programs are designed to meet the needs of the students, and are available in a number of delivery methods, including on-campus, online, and hybrid/blended. Nearly two-thirds of graduate students enroll on a part-time basis, which allows them to continue their education while maintaining current employment and meeting the needs of their families. U.S. News & World Report consistently ranks Creighton as the #1 master’s degree-granting university in the Midwest. Each year, more than 4,100 students choose to pursue their graduate and professional degrees at Creighton.

Heider College of Businessbusiness.creighton.edu

The Heider College of Business has long received top rankings and recognition. The college is on the cutting edge of business education through innovative programs in leadership, entrepreneurship, finance, accounting, investment management and financial analysis, business ethics, and more.

Within nine months of graduation, 99 percent of the college’s undergraduates were employed or enrolled in graduate studies. The college is in the top 2 percent of business schools in the world to be accredited in both business and accounting by AACSB International and was selected by Military Times as one of the top 77 Best for Vets Business School (selection focuses on veteran culture and curriculum, cost in the context of military and veteran benefits, overall veteran policies, and publicly available outcome measures). Additionally, Heider faculty includes the greatest number of CFA charterholders of any university in the world, according to the CFA Institute, and is ranked as the No. 14 MS-BIA program by The Financial Engineer.

School of Dentistrydentistry.creighton.edu
