Crime Scene Investigation

Story

Joe works as Detective in the Crime Scene Unit (CSU), which is a part of the SPD

Detective Bureau's Forensic Investigations Division in Smallville City Police Department.

He usually begins his shift by checking out his Case list. He chooses the Case, which he

currently work on, checks and update information about it. Some information is stored in

Police database, and some information on the case is conducted on paper (such as

Reports, Notes etc.). Therefore, Joe has lots of paper work to do, which is boring and

takes a lot of time. When Joe needs to find some specific information on the Case he must

look through lots of papers, which also steals his precious time, which he could spend

investigating crimes.

Joe does some investigation activities, than adds some new Evidence / Suspect

info / interrogation of suspect’s records when he is back to Police station. He would like

very much to have simple application on his smartphone or tablet, so he could record,

update and overview crime cases he responsible of, even from remote locations.

Application would enable CSI professionals and police officers to glance at their

current cases and get more detailed information and status of every case. App would

contain structured information of every case, including evidence list, crime scene

information, suspect profiles and witnesses records. It enables to upload pictures and

video related to the case. New Lab researches also can uploaded to corresponding case.

When enough evidence collected and suspect can be charged with a crime, the

Case is referred to court. Officer change case status and paste all materials to District

Attorney.

In addition, if Joe could see statistic of his solved/unsolved cases as simple graphic

feature of this app, it would greatly motivate him to improve his efficiency.

PAIN POINTS

NEEDS

• Application which can provide fast access to information about

each of my cases including evidence and Lab research

• I need to know background and crime history (if it exists) of all

participants of my crime cases

• I need to be able to transfer easily all information about the

case to the District Attorney when I have enough evidence to

identify the perpetrator of the crime and convict them at trial

• No quick case overview

• Evidence, Lab research, Crime scene materials, suspects and

witnesses’ information are stored in different places. As a result,

investigation of a crime and evidence analysis takes a long time

Point of View

Joe West, the Detective in Smallville Police

Department needs a way to record, update and

quickly overview all information about his every Case

(even from remote locations) so than he could

concentrate on investigation process.

Mock Up A Design for the application was created using the Prototyping kit. In my Application, I

used Split Screen Layout.

Master Page (on the left side) contains Cases that is being investigated by

detective. It shows short information about the Case, such as ID, short description,

classification, Status, date and address of the Crime.

Detail Page (on the right side) contains more detailed information about the Case.

Information grouped and structured with Icon Tab Bar. Each Tab contains corresponding

amount of information, which can displayed when you switch tabs.

Incident Overview Tab displays Case overview.

Attachments Tab displays different attachments files related to selected Case, such as

Photo, images, video files, text protocols.

Notes Tab displays Notes, done by Detective while Investigation process.

Related Persons Tab contains detailed information about Persons involved in the Case,

which divided by following groups: Suspects, Witnesses and Victims. By clicking on

person, listed here, you will navigate to that person’s Profile page, which contains all

available information about that person.

Lab Research Tab contains information about Evidence, which was found at Crime scene

and transferred to Police Laboratory for research. Pictures of such evidence and Lab

research results displayed here.

SAP Web IDE App Navigation I exported my App Project from BUILD tool and used mock-data for my CSI app as

recommended. For better understanding, I will explain names of my application’s pages:

Master Page - 1457943756613_S0, Detail Page - 1457943756614_S1, Witnesses Details

Page - 1459764455802_S3, Suspects Details Page - 1460103352977_S4. Here I will

demonstrate and explain navigation from Involved persons Tab of the Detail Page

(1457943756614_S1) to Suspects Details Page (1460103352977_S4).

Therefore, in order to connect those two screens, we need to choose navigation area of

the Details Page (in my case, it is Column List Item, which I highlighted with yellow color).

Then, on the right side in Web IDE, I chose Events Pane and selected one of existing

Page 8: Crime Scene Investigation Story - SAP

Event handlers from the controller: _onPressNpsapmColumnListItem145975868611106M.

This event handler triggers navigation to Suspects Details Page, which we will see when

we Go to Code in the corresponding controller.js file.

As we can see in code, this event handler triggers navigation to 1460103352977_S4 -

Suspects Details Page.

SAP Web IDE App Implementation

I will demonstrate the implementation of additional Tab Filter (Reports Tab) and will add

Feed Input Control, which will serve as Create & Send Report feature.

1. Open Detail Page (1457943756614_S1) in Layout Editor

2. From the Controls tab on the left, drag&drop new Icon Tab Separator, after that drag&drop

new Icon Tab Filter

3. In Properties Pane on the right, I

changed Icon and Icon Color, so it would

more correspond to Reports Tab. I also

removed Text and Count of the Tab Filter

using Properties Pane.

4. From the Controls tab on the left, I dragged Feed Input Control and dropped it under the

corresponding Icon Tab Filter (my new-added Report Tab). After that, I have chosen Feed

Input Control by clicking on it and made changes in Properties Pane on the right (such as:

changed default icon and default text).

5. After that, I Saved changes and Run my CSI project in Preview mode with mock-data,

which I made. All changes saved successfully and we can see new customized Tab Filter

with Feed Input control in it, displayed in Preview mode.
