Crimson Peak Title analysis

The title sequence starts with a dark background with nothing but the titles in white font on the screen which automatically stand out as they contrast the background which is dark and gloomy. The music is quietly playing in the background and is similar to orchestra music which makes the audience assume the film will include churches and eerie scenes and we already think the film will be related to thriller as the background is so dark and chilling.

As we continue to watch, it follows on with more mysterious and murky background pictures and the same white font which shows the names of the directors, writers and produces, this keeps the audience intrigued on the film. The continuous eery backgrounds are very effective as they keep the viewer interested and the music starts to speed up which creates tension for them.

The music continues to speed up as strange clips of bugs and birds fly around the room and out of the shops which creates a sense of a deserted and forgotten house which could be shown in the film and the many dimmed and darkened backgrounds continue to make the audience suspect the film will be a thriller and keeps them captivated.

I like that further on colour is brought into the different shots (and the same white font is used) and it shows something is going to maybe come to life. E.g the house will not forever be abandoned and there is going to be hope in the film. The music also pairs nicely with this as it turns softer and isnt as fast and as the room gets more colourful the music turns slowly into music which you would associate with happy endings.

At the end of the clip there is a book (shown above) which is in colour and it flicks through the pages and then closes as if they are stating that the film is a story which is going to be told. The music also follows along and then ends abruptly and with a very loud instrument sound and I like this part as it keeps you watching and it ends so heavy like the book is being slammed shut.

Most of the shots and clips used are very ominous and ghostly with an old effect on them which makes them look like it was filmed years ago. I like this effect as it goes nicely with the thriller expectation and the strange music in the background. Throughout the shots there are white bold text like stated before and they do not show any of the main actors who are starring in it so they dont ruin the film and keeps the viewer interested. By using just a few of the directors in front of the superstitious background it allows the audience to establish what the genre is and what may happen themselves. The shots throughout change from extreme close up shots to establishing shots and this helps show the audience all the different aspects of the film and help create a clearer understanding of it and the writing and font used is the same and is very effective as it contrasts the background and makes it seem even more gloomy.
