Safe entry and exit of students to school grounds Students arriving at school, either by foot, car or bus, should go straight into the school grounds. After school finishes, students who use public transport should walk directly to the appropriate bus stop, wait and then board in a way that's respectful of other passengers. Parents and carers are responsible for their child's safety when travelling to and from school. Students who attend an after school care group or program need to meet in their allocated area shortly after the 3pm bell rings.

Have your say! The NSW Government is committed to providing before and after care to all students of public primary schools in New South Wales. As part of the reform, a parent web form has been established by Service NSW that will enable parents to tell the Department of Education [DoE] about their specific needs and to stay up to date with any new developments. The information provided by parents will help the DoE to understand your needs, give them insights into where there are gaps in service delivery and to help ensure extra places are delivered where they are required. Have your say at https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/basc

The Gateways Challenge is a national, team-based competition for highly able primary school students. It involves teams of 4 with each member required to be a leader in one of the 4 competition areas: Science, Maths, Drama and Poetry. The competi-tion involves 40 teams with the top 2 teams being invited to Melbourne to compete in the challenge finals. Our competition will take place on the 13 No-vember.

Gateways

Challenge

With the facilitation of the Gifted and Talented priority team member, Mr Fifield, the 2 teams began their preparation. The teams consisted of Daniel Sun, Lily Vincent, Xavier Chalise and Sophie Tan for team 1 and Han Lee, Teresa Lay, Antonio Zhu and Hannah Mangerah for team 2. With a focus on working as a team, the competitors set out for challenges including creating a 1 minute drama script, discovering the PH levels of orange juice and creatively writing a Dylan Thomas ‘Portrait’ about Mrs Williams. A highlight of the day was discovering the impact of mass on a swinging pendulum, or as we learned the lack of im-pact that mass makes on a swinging pendulum. This involved a walk down to the local park, an adventure all on its own.
